  1. I think most of us here know that these employees work their tails off, day in and day out and that yes, their time off the ship is rare and infrequent. (if you don't know, consider yourself knowledged now!)

I plan on taking all these "little" things that we so take for granted and on my upcoming cruise in November, I do plan to ask my cabin steward if they need anything while in port, it's called BEING NICE. I am also going to be taking candies on board as treats, such a clever idea.

I've never had a cabin steward that I didn't like, and I thank all of you for these lovely suggestions!

  2. I don't know but:

SOME people like to be friendly, and meet fellow cruisers and share in the wonderful vacation experience....

SOME people know how to hold a conversation of more than just the weather, where you from? etc...

SOME people have great knowledge about cruising/plans/excursions/the whole experience in and of itself that their information is regarded as priceless...

SOME People have meet fellow cruisers from previous roll calls and shared great memories that they still talk about YEARS later together.....

SOME people are planning their next cruise vacation with old Roll Call friends...

SOME People like Roll Calls and some people just don't understand...

  3. As others have mentioned, if you can swing both, DO IT!!

The experience of each of them is unique in it's own way, and the foodie in you will be so happy you chose to do both!!

150 Central Park is charming, and can be the more initimate setting, whereas the Chef's Table you are instantly friends with the 6 other couples. (and I did make good friends with the couple sitting next to us)

DO it - You're on vacation after all! :D

  4. The Solarium Bistro will stay the Solarium Bistro. There was some talk about changing it to Samba but they decided against it. This information was from the Captain at the Meal with an Officer Luncheon yesterday.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

Sad to see that SAMBA Grill isn't going to be added to the Oasis, I really enjoyed it on the Allure.

Wondering what else we might see on the Oasis in the next few weeks.

Maybe the dream about Rita's Cantina going in place of the Seafood Shack could happen?

  5. When is RCI going to get all the kinks out of there reservation system... my 10 year old neice could do a better job running the IT department than whatever team of people they have there now... INSANITY!!

I love that they update your Cruise Planner to include CATS and you can't even book it... Can't even see what dates/times, just that it's there... running time 2 1/2 hours, that's all is see...

  6. We had connecting rooms on Allure. My kids were in the other room, and we could hear them talking in normal voices during the trip.

    I'd avoid connecting if possible.

That is something I do not want to hear since I have a connecting room on the Oasis in 2 months, and I love the location of my room and don't want to switch!! (since my cabin was booked for me, by family, I don't think switching is an option and I would have never booked it had I known)

One would think they would do more about sound-proofing after reading all these negative experiences about them.

Praying that I don't have "that" family next to us...

  7. Does anyone know if this will effect all the dining reservations that have already been made for my sailing this November??

After the HOURS spent getting my party of 10 all ironed out I would HATE to have to go thru it all again with this annoucement!

It's not that I object to the change, but it would have been nice if they didn't let people book dining and entertainment to only have to re-book it under this new Dynamic Dining plan.

  8. While getting up to speed with the world of technology is lovely, I would rather think that:

    A - I'm ON VACATION... I don't want high-speed internet... I don't want to be found!!

B - just like UCF_Knight, fix the website, open the cruise planner calendar with all the bells and whistles and get that all straight FIRST before going on to this "Just like Disney World" wristband, track everything from your Wonder Woman bracelet thingy that will more than likely get more lost than the good old Sea Pass card...

I will say I'm impressed that RCI is giving every crew member a tablet of their own, for both work and personal use.

  9. My suggestion would be to call and get someone on the phone, either from Cruise Planner or C & A. My MIL did this last week for several hours to plan everything for our party of 10. She had to call a few times to get it all straight since somehow they can't manage to handle a party of 10 people, with 5 different reservation numbers....(with all the information right in front of them..)

Pack your patience when you call...

  10. Don't like the idea of removing the Viking Crown Lounge

    I second that!!!

Had to be the BEST place on the ship at night... and not only that, it was mellow and quiet and kinda tucked away from it all... I know the friends I made last cruise we preferred to get drinks/chat there.

    What a shame...

between that and the chapel disappearing, I'm not too happy to be going on shortly after these changes... BOO!!

  11. As already suggested, become a member of your Meet & Mingle Roll Call and see if there is already a Cabin Crawl set up. If there isn't, and you would like to start to organize one, that is great... but a word of warning, from someone who spent a good deal of time organizing the last Cabin Crawl for our Meet & Mingle... Things change, not everyone shows up, and sometimes you just have to roll with the flow.

If members of your roll call and willing to show off their cabins, make a list, get your cabin categories covered and make a map, before you board... Come day of your Meet & Mingle onboard, bring that list/map. See if everyone is still roaring to show their cabins and head out. (there will be people who change their minds)

Suggestion if you have Grand Suites and Loft Suites to visit, would be to start at the lowest and work your way up. My last Cabin Crawl on the Allure saw just about every category; inside, Central Park Balcony, Boardwalk Balcony, Ocean Balcony, Grand Suite, and the grand prize, someone on my roll call was in the big Royal Loft Suite! :D That is awesome to see in person!!

A cabin crawl is a great way to see other cabins and get a feel for the ship itself. I will say that just about everyone who did the Cabin Crawl from that Allure Cruise in 2011, I am still friendly with & stay in touch with. It is a great way to make some great cruise friends!

Good Luck with your Cabin Crawl and Happy Sailing!!!

  12. Oh let me count the ways that Cruise Critic has helped me...

    - I like, no LOVE, how roll calls on old cruises have led to years of great friendships with past cruisers.

    - Prices Drops and all the savings information...

    - Planning... everyone here has a story about planning, and if you are a planner like me, you don't feel so all alone...

    - Packing - if it wasn't for CC I would have been without my trusty mini power cord, not to mention the countless uses of Bounce Fabric Refresher!!

    - I know the first, last and every meal in between that i am going to eat once on board..

    - I know about the hidden balconies, spots, artwork on the Oasis/Allure

    - it TOTALLY helps when battling Post Cruise Depression to answer everyone's questions about your reviews when you return.

    - The LIVE Blogs and how wonderful the folks that do them are - Thank you for taking me on vacation with you! :D

  13. Thank-you, but there are many very knowledgable and helpful contributors to this forum.

To my knowledge, Royal has not released any information with regard to Oasis internet upgrades.

You just always seem to answer my questions and I thank you for that!!!

    Thanks for your response!

  14. Thank you to all of you for your comments...

I really didn't even think about hearing things that I didn't want to know about my in-laws, but yes that is something else to consider.

Since yesterday I had a chance to talk to my cousin who was married on an RCI ship over 10 years ago and they were selected to be the newlywed couple. YES, they did receive a copy of the Love & Marriage game show and YES, the are still married and YES, the video still gets played every once in a while for tons of laughs. :D

Since my in-laws are well seasoned cruisers and they do watch the Love & Marriage show each time on board I'm sure they know the questions, now whether or not my father-in-law could remember them all - that's another story!!
