  1. Right now it looks like Irma will be following the west Florida coastline. Won't the wind be coming from the southwest?

Question: How much force can windows take? Does anyone know? The suggestion to use closet doors to cover the windows is a marvelous idea. I wish that we had the ability to do that, but we are presently in N. Georgia, and traveling back to Florida is not a great idea.

The latest one I see still has the eye traveling right over downtown Tampa but as you know over the last couple of days it has been slowing moving more to the west.

If it does make it into the Gulf it will be much worse here in Pinellas County :( But the entire Tampa Bay area is going to get hammered!

  2. At 83 feet you will get a lot wind, and we hope your windows hold! Be resourceful and have a back up plan if a window gets broken through... a tarp and stapler may help; if someone is with you to help you, think about the possibility of taking a closet or bathroom door off it's hinges to use to block up the window. I hope you are not by yourself, but even if you are, remember you are not alone! Sending our love and prayers! Check in as you can let us know how you are doing. m--

    Thank you!

Windows, outer doors, and garage doors in FL have been replaced with much stronger products since Andrew in 1992. We will see!

The wind will be mostly out of the SE too which will help.....

  3. I sailed in P323 on the Star Princess which looks to be the same as the Sapphire. It was ablsolutely the worst cabin ever for noise. Seemed to come from above, below and in the area of the art gallery every night. The noise from the entertainment in the Plaza was also very loud until about midnight each night and seemed to echo through the the open space of the art gallery.

We were so happy to be upgraded on that Alasks cruise in 2015 and were so disappointed in the noise level. Never had a bad experience before or since but I know I will avoid this area on all future cruises even though the location is ideal.

  4. Let's just be real here. While your comment may be well-meaning, it is not really grounded in statistical fact or reason. The vast majority of domestic violence is directed at women, not vice versa. So yes, people will naturally address the victim - in this case a woman who was by all accounts a lovely, wonderful person and great Mom who was brutally murdered by her much larger and clearly very angry husband who then tried to throw her body overboard. So, while I'm not denying anyone their presumption of innocence or day in court, I will vehemently argue against any scenario that even remotely tries to paint this woman - the victim who was bludgeoned to death - as anything other than that - the victim! It is tragic.

Very well said and I agree!

  5. I did not know this so thanks for posting. Not sure how the app would be cheaper than the website since I would think they run through the same server....

I wonder if the award miles required for flights are the same

  6. Most of us that cruise often know that parents simply don't supervise they children as much on board a cruise ship as they do when at home. And I doubt this boy would have been out at 10:30 pm at home :(

However, this It made me think about something I read years ago. A parent couldn't book a Princess cruise for her family because the sailing had already reached the limit for kids on board. Has Princess stopped this practice? Five hundred plus kids on board seems like a lot to me - within the confines of a cruise ship

  7. I am booked on the "sun" 7/26 Land/ sea 12 day tour southbound.

Ok so now it's the Jewel..... no worries.... lil better amenities.

So I finally call to get my rooms yesterday. I changed my deck to 2 decks above lifeboats which is higher on Jewel. I wanted a lil higher than where they put me... But to there credit same port side aft location....

However my mom OV room was moved to starboard.

I'm sorry we are on a 1 way Alaskan cruise booked well over a year in advance...

So I managed to get last port side OV in aft location.

However I look today and I see my fate is higher and he nobody mention that which pisses me off.

So people call and make sure your cabins are where u want it.

I am not surprised that there have been and will be issues with new cabin assignments. I was tempted to book the Sun sailing and let everything move over but I really prefer to pick my own cabin. I saw lots of changes in availability between the time I put a cabin on hold and the time I made deposit. I was able to get a better location yesterday so I was glad I waited. So, I think they are still trying to place people and some may have moved up leaving the cabin I booked open.

  8. i spent almost 2 hours on the phone this morning and I am still not clear on what's happening to the April 19th 9 Day Alaska cruise out of Seattle.

One rep told me its completely canceled and my TA got an email explaining my options but basically its canceled and I can move to the Pearl's April 29th sailing (7 day not 9 day) for the same price. She also said my TA would need to call and make the changes and we only have until the 19th to accept the offered alternative.

TA called, was told emails will be sent out tomorrow but we will just be moved from the SUN to a different ship she didnt know if it would be the Pearl or the Jewel. BOTH have cruises going during the dates of the cruise I am booked on. So I am guessing its more likely my cruise has been completely scrubbed and I have to take the Pearl cruise on April 29th or change everything.

I'm really annoyed because I choose a 9 day cruise with an extra port, if it has been canceled I will only have the option of a 7 day cruise for the same price

Maybe they will move you to the May 26, 9 night sailing and hold pricing for you? Couldn't hurt to ask if the dates work for you.

    New to Me.

    .

I first noticed this about a week ago. I have only sailed on NCL once a few years ago so it isn't familiar to me either.

Unfortunately, the sail away fare isn't available on the Alaska sailing I am looking at. I wonder if it will be available later and whether or not I could switch. I'm always looking for the lowest fare :)

  10. We moved to the Jewel to be safe. Too many signs point to the ship change. Hope we gambled correctly. We needed connecting cabins and very few were left on the Jewel for our date.

The change has been confirmed with NCL but you didn't say when you were sailing:

...this change is only for the Norwegian Sun reservations between the dates of 5/26/2018 - 9/10/18. All future cruises aboard the Norwegian Sun will have no change..."

You didn't say when you are sailing but the NCL site isn't updated and bookings aren't possible for anything within this date range. Maybe you aren't sailing to Alaska?

  11. I was so confused when I went on NCL website and saw my ship had changed. First thing I did was come here. Thankful I have a clue what is going on. Never heard anything from NCL.

NCL hasn't been good about communicating on this one and I am surprised that all passengers haven't been moved already. There couldn't have been that many reservations based on the cabin availability I saw on the Sun - before it disappeared

Did you see your new cabin on line?

  12. We have a cruise tour booked in August of 2018. on the Sun, now Jewel. We still have not heard anything from NCL about the change. Reading this thread had me logging in to MyNCL and I saw the change in ships there. Can't find the cabin no. yet as the page is taking a vacation. ;)

I'm booked on the Sun June 25, 2018. I guess this explains why when I've tried to make a payment online the last few days it won't let me.

We've booked an aft suite, so I hope we are given a similar suite on the Jewel. I know nothing about the Jewel. Time for more research!

I know I read some posts indicating people were calling NCL directly to get their new cabin assignments. I don't think you should wait to see what they select for you....
