  1. I was on this cruise and echo what most have said about the issues encountered on this sailing. I avoided these threads because I did not wish to get aggravated again recounting our experience. Now that some time has passed I ventured into this thread and was surprised to read that RCCL is offering compensation to "everyone." My wife and I have not received this email. In fact I had to call yesterday just to receive the refund from the cancelled chef's table that they stated would be automatically refunded. Has anyone else not received this compensation email? Is the offer of compensation only being sent to those that have voiced their dissatisfaction to the cruise line?

  2. Is it just me, or does there seem to be an almost comical obsession here about free drinks for "upper level" (Diamond and above) C&A members? One spends thousands of dollars per cruise, not to mention a lot more than that to get to Diamond. And after all that expense there seems to be so much concern about how many free drinks they might get and where?

Don't get me wrong, I will full take advantage of the free drinks on our next cruise as our first at Diamond level, but I think it's quite entertaining how many here at CC seem to expend so much energy and time pondering a couple free drinks after spending so much money on a cruise. The threads about a couple free drinks per night seem to go on and on forever........

People talk about so many subjects that have little relevance in the grand picture (cookie locations, towel animals and the lack there of, ice in their rooms...). This is the nature of a message board, someone asks a simple question and people run with it. The question I have is, so what? If the subject of a post doesn't interest me I don't open it.

  3. Thanks for the feedback on the Gem.

We have been on many Celebrity cruises and it is our line of choice, but we learned about a good deal on a 7 nighter to NE in September 20th on the Gem. There is only one sea day, so most of the trip is at ports. The base price is $499 so we have booked (but may end up cancelling). A couple months ago we took a wonderful 14 nighter on the Summit to NE/Canada. We want to go back to a couple of those ports and see some new ones too, and the GEM itinerary does that. Hopefully we can tolerate the GEM, but will certainly miss the Celebrity happy hours and other amenities.

We have sailed on all three lines within the last two years. Each has their strengths but I would choose Princess if you are trying to most closely replicate your previous Celebrity experiences. We toured Royal Princess earlier this month and can report that she is beautiful.
