No. Formal nights mean at least a jacket and tie. Many will be wearing suits or tuxedos.
Wrong all that is REQUIRED is a long sleeve shirt and tie for men.
-
But it is not for everybody. Will stick with shirt and tie.

My son ,a age 30 has his own Tux and loves to wear it on cruises. We live in San Francisco.
I am glad for him. So how does that affect the rest of us who do not have one and hate to wear them? We live all over the world.
-
Speaking for myself, I wore a suit or coat and tie every day at work. Now that I am retired, I wear what I like. What I do like is no neckties. I don't need a coat and tie to impress anyone when I'm on vacation.
I make it even simpler. I am not on a cruise to impress anybody. If they feel they need to be impressed then it is their problem. I will stick with a long sleeve shirt and tie and use the extra weight for things I enjoy or want to take. I can get alot in by not taking a tux of a sport jacket.
-
I agree with all previous posters on what to wear and also plan to dress in layers. If you must bring an umbrella make it a small collapsable one that fits in a purse or backpack.

All they would have to do is make a dat time spreadsheet and put it in the room. It is not rocket science and they could put it on a tv channel for anyone to look at and make it available for download to digital devices. So easy to do it a better way.

The best place for comedy of any ship is by one of the main pools. Best place to get a laugh on the entire ship. Yes the showers are small but functional for most people. The larger a person is the tighter it will be but they serve the purpose.
-
At least we are all having a good "silent" laugh on the cruise. Each in our own comfort zone.
-
You can buy a Tux at Penny's these days for around $100 when they are on sale.
So be so kind as to buy one for those of us who see spending that much money on an item we will not wear as a waste of money. Sorry but I have better things to do with MY money then spend it on things I only would wear once or twice in my lifetime. I will stick to wearing a long sleeve shirt and tie and have a great silent laugh at all those who feel the need to dress up for dinner. I have worn a tux exactly twice in over 60 years.

This type of comparison between bottled and tap water is done from time to time with the same results. Tap water seems to win out most times. Additionally it shows that most bottled water is taken from local tap water. But in the end it is up to each family to choose which say they want to go.

So you cancelled one cruise in order to try and manipulate Princess into giving you a different deal than what the promotion states. You then try to blame Princess and red tape for not cooperating with your scheme. Most people would have checked it out with details prior to cancelling your first cruise. Corporate entities do not have to conform tot he schemes of the individuals in order to make money. They set out the terms of their promotions and expect anyone who wants to take advantage of it to comply with THEIR terms.
Sorry but you messed your self out of a cruise and from the sounds of things some hard earned money.

Unless you never plan to travel again, why not just renew the passport so you won't need to worry.
One reason could be that in order to renew your passport you have to also send in your current one. With a cruise in January that would be cutting it pretty close too the sail date. This should have been done a little earlier that now but some people have no idea when theirs expire and only check when the are needing to use it.

It only generates money because a lot of people like to have things to look at in their homes, like us. You don't have to buy anything you think is "ugly" and the prices for the prints are much better than in any gallery as I have compared them. Each to their own.;)
On that we both can agree. Each to his own.
-
All of the art auctions should be taken off all ships. Takes up to much room and most of it is ugly anyway.

I do not know what your intentions were with your question BUT it did insult many. There are many other ways to have made your point. And your failure to see it as such also raises several questions that I will not ask at this time. It has nothing to do with other cultures. My wife and her family and friends were very upset with your question. They wondered why someone would make such an insult about them.
-
Was this person Chinese by chance?
Seeing that my entire wife's family is Chinese I take that as an insult to them as they would never ask that kind of question. Talk about people asking in appropriate questions.

No. It was someone who refused to dress up on formal night. :p
No, it was someone who tried to tell another passenger how to dress on formal night and didn't like the answer they got.

As this is important to many of us it would be great if they would put it on the Cruise Personalizer where it would show whether or not you would accept an upgrade and the ability to change it if YOU wanted too. Then a person could take a screen shot to keep for their records. I always take a screen shot of the personalizer that to take with me so there is no question of what I contracted for.
-
When I make a reservation for a cruise and a certain cabin and Princess says OK and takes my deposit I consider it a contract between the two of us. If I mark it no upgrade and they say OK at the time then I take it that that is also part of the contract. IF by some chance they decided to change the contract without my approval I can assure people that Princess would not like their conversation with me. It would get real nasty real quick with them. It cost too much money to cruise and I select my cabin for my comfort not theirs.

I caught the a cruise when they first switched to the 30 minute format. People were standing in line from the theater to the lounge areas past the piazza. It was a mess. One elderly lady even passed out. This went on the entire cruise and people just quit going. The CD said they had the waiting time fixed because no one was standing in line anymore. I agree a 45 minute show three times a day with a matinee would be the way to go. You had to get in line as soon as the previous show opened to get a seat in the next show. Totally unorganized and not worth the hassle to go see a sub standard show. But that is just my thoughts.
-
You can not change some people. They will always think they know more and better than anyone else. Confronting them would only cause a bigger problem. There seems to be one in every crowd. As to the Ultimate Ship Tour I would love to take it BUT I think it is way overpriced. All I have heard about it is great BUT to pay that much just to walk around areas that the passengers do not normally get to see is not one of the things I will ever spend money on.

Take an excursion to Cape Canaveral and the Everglades. Again luggage goes on the bus with you. Go to the Shore Excursion desk the first at sea day and they will give you a list of what is available.

Having taken several Princess cruises I have been satisfied with the food I have eaten. Some good some bad. I do hope all who seem to not like the food trend on ships are filling out comment cards and handing them in. Letting Princess know there is a downward trend to the food by these cards would be a good way of letting them know what you think. Enough comments and maybe something will be done to improve the food.

There are also several buses that leave from the Vancouver Amtrak station. They take about 4 hours to get to Seattle. Walk around the block and get on the light rail to the airport. That takes about 25 minutes. Have done it several ttimes to visit my daughter in Vancouver. Check Amtrak on line for departure times from the Pan Pacific terminal. Lite rail is less than $4.00 pp to SeaTac. Hope this helps.

And those in just a shirt and tie in the MDR will not say a thing about how others are dressed as they enjoy their fine dining in the MDR. They will gladly conform to what the cruise line allows on these nights. Of course their partners will enjoy their meals knowing that their dinner companion is enjoying the meal in great comfort.
