The science museum in London is always a hit with the kids and you have the natural history museum next door..... Both free too....

Room spray, a photocopy of passport and a photo of them on phone of them in case of losing original. Having a copy makes life easier should the worst happen.
Nail clippers hubby always stubs his toenail on a lounger or something.....

It's an easy walk from airport to water taxi even with loads of luggage. We've done it a few times. Taxis come and go all the time so never much of a wait. We find it a relaxing way to travel. There's something about the breeze in your face as the taxi speeds along, one of my favourite bits...... We usually stay at the hilton in Venice and we regard the cost of taxi as part of the trip. Would be a bit of a hassle to get to the hotel by other means. We've always done a taxi to and from ship too, but love using water buses around Venice.

We took a minivan in Le Havre last October and shared with three other fellow passengers, there were a number of mini van typed taxis on dock in taxi line, you could be lucky or ask a cab driver to radio for a larger vehicle to travel together.

We cruised the canaries in March a few years ago and the weather, apart from a bit of light rain in Madeira was glorious, the seas were kind too. Guess it depends on the weather on the day, seas can be rough / calm at anytime of the year I guess, it's the natural unpredictable thing ... Good luck and have a fab tine, sounds similar to what we are booked on for April.

Just noticed post as flicking through... Just to chip in... There's a small tourist train stops outside of one of the cafés outside port entrance - come out of port and walk along the seafront and you will sea it. It does a tour of the town and takes your to the terma taurine bath ruins ( think that what it was called) - in the hills above the town, tour the ruins, back on the same train and back to the town and continue the tour. I think it was about an hour and a half and cost was few euros ( paid on the train) and included entrance to ruins, very pleasant! Hope this helps :)

Hi hoping someone can give us a bit of info.... We have booked on the fantasia what are the dining options available? ( not in YC) are there speciality restaurants like on other cruise lines?. We have only sailed on Lirica with MSC and understand the fantasia is much bigger. Thanks:)

I was only stating what happened to me. Just to correct there are two types of mail still, surface and airmail, I've just checked Royal Mail website as we don't want visitors to get the wrong info
http://www.royalmail.com/personal/international-delivery/international-economy
http://www.royalmail.com/personal/international-delivery/international-standard
These were the old air and surface, I guess as long as the stamp price is correct it will get to its destination.

No, you don't need an airmail sticker. All mail goes airmail these days.
I recount what I was told in the post office, clearly you have more knowledge than my post office, if it's not needed why was it given to me to adhere to the card.

Aft cabins are awful, never book one!!!! ( only joking.... More for us to book!!!)
We love an aft, have sailed various places on a ship but aft is our favourite location. Less footfall, only neighbours need to walk past, away from the noise of the lifts, beautiful views - sitting on balcony with a g&t at sail away for our own private viewing of where we have just been, love sitting on balcony reading - whatever the weather due to the length of a lot of aft balconies (not all are bigger on all cruise lines and ships) there's usually a nice spot.
Love to watch the wake, especially at night, something quite spectacular, never had a problem leaving the doors open at night where on our side balcony the wind noise stopped us from doing this... Or maybe this was the weather on that particular cruise, never mind it's afts all the way for us ;)
On a personal note I was very ill on a cruise 2 years ago, spent a lot of time in the medical facility on a drip etc.... When I was allowed back to the cabin for short periods of time, the aft balcony we had was my bit of paradise, I will never forget it, for us it reinforced one thing I would stay home rather than sail without any balcony ( and the staff and treatment in medical facility were fabulous too...)

If it helps I posted a postcard to the USA 2 days ago, it was 97p and you need a blue airmail sticker from the post office too

Our bank couldn't source for us but M&S had it in stock if that's any help... Assuming you are in the UK. I always like some currency to take with us, even if just enough for a cab. Saves hunting for ATM.

After my frustration have persevered and found and booked something for Easter. The thought of not cruising between July this year and July next year was my prob. I guess the moral behind the story here was stop moaning, do more and more and when I thought I'd finished do a bit more of trawling websites and my internet fairy godmother fulfilled my wish.... Last week I was a sad unhappy bunny this week a happy bunny :) and as an extra bonus hubby was pleased with choice..... So I managed to tick every box

It wasn't my intention to change the world, it was more me venting frustration....
I've had a typical girls nightmare, shop with money in your pocket and you see nothing to buy, shop without money and you see lots to buy....
A day wasted. Think I should get hubby to plan holidays in future as he us getting an easy life!! ;)
-
Bit of a rhetorical question really.... Looking to plan our holidays for next year. There are very few cruises which tie in with Christmas, Easter and half term holidays in the UK. Most schools follow the same patterns for holidays might be useful if someone involved in planning itineraries took these dates into consideration. People with children ought to be tied to these dates and those with or without children who work in education definitely are, yet it seems that a huge customer base is being missed here. Spent time today searching for something to fit in with dates yet a lot of cruises sail on the last day of term or return after term starts :(
Perhaps if someone from cruise lines reads this it might be taken into consideration for future years. Looks like my half terms are not going to be spent at sea next year!

Fly be to Southampton fom Leeds Bradford!! Or about 5 hr drive. Southampton easy to get to and organised!
-
If the ship has an aft cabin we will book it.... We love to watch the wake, no need for anyone other than neighbours to walk past the door, love leaving balcony door open at night going to sleep to the sound of the sea, fantastic views as leave port etc etc..... On a few cruises we have had to stay elsewhere but aft is our preference every time :) walking to stairs / lift never worries us

Since you arrive on the 11th, just take the HoHo boat from Stadsgården to Djurgården.
The Frihamnen info does not apply to you in this case.
Thanks so much. Have looked at map. That's a great help :)
-
it depends where you dock.
If you dock at Stadsgården (which you will if you are arriving on the 11th), the hoho boats is probably the best solution.
If you dock at Frihamnen bus, taxi or ship is the available options.
There is a harbour line called Sjövägen that goes from Frihamnen via
several stops to Nybroplan. Unfortunately the first morning departures don't stop at Allmänna Gränd/Djurgården.
The first departure that stops at Djurgården doe not depart from Frihamnen until 10.05.
Although it is possible to get an earlier departure to Nybroplan and then take the tram from Nybroplan to Djurgården.
Thanks for that. It is 11th. Is Frihamnen far to walk from the dock? We don't do really early so that will be fine.

Hi we are on the Jewel next week we want to visit Skansen, any advice on how to get there from port? Or any idea of approximate taxi fare? Thanks
