This is very big news here locally in NZ.
Very sad and unfortunate for the tourists caught up in this.
This thread is also available in the AUS/NZ forum. -
A concerning hour or 2 for those onboard no doubt!
-
It was going to happen to the pacific sooner or later!
-
I'm a local but I'm looking at this one as well. It's the Jan 2020 sailing isn't it?
Trying to talk a first time potential cruiser into going. -
Excellent answer Chief -always appreciate your practical thoughts on ship ops.
-
Please just be yourself and enjoy the trip.
You're not going to Sub-Saharan Africa or something. Our cultures are far, far more alike than different.
-
Honestly, unless you're carrying a duffel bag full of pills, nobody will notice or care.

Read latest entries.

If you want to visit OZ/NZ on a cruise, you really ought to fly down here, maybe to Sydney or Auckland, and get a local cruise.
Our ones are generally longer than 1 week - most are 8-10 days maybe more since we get more vacation time.
Great way to see the Pacific islands too! I'm talking Vanuatu, Fiji, New Caledonia, Tonga.
-
None! Joined up before my first in 2010.
-
If I have it regularly at home, and other banal cuisine, then I'll pass in most cases.

Nice job Chief! Informative as always.

Like horror date stories, this is always an amusing read.

If it's any consolation, the Splendor is heading down under in a year to join the Spirit.

Put me down for the Vanuatu cruise for next year. My first family cruise haha. All my previous ones were alone or with friends.
Aug 5-15, Pacific Aria. It's been a few years since I've been on P&O that's for sure.

Appreciate the details on an under-reported section of the cruise market.

Cultural relativism is a funny thing isn't it?

I fly from AKL to LAX usually annually.
Suggestions already noted are good.
Get onto local time the second you get onto the flight, or even at the airport.A decent meal does wonders too!
I pack light, so bringing one of those neck pillows seems redundant. Use some clothes as a pillow.

When in doubt, talk about the ship and the trip!!
-
Chief, you're a wealth of info as usual. Great perspective into design.

Really sorry it happened to you! I've enjoyed my solo vacations [that being, those comprise almost all my trips, cruising or not].
I'm not the most social either, but let me assure you people are far friendlier on a cruise than out in the "real world". Strike up a conversation - you'll go places yet!
-
doubtful this'll ever happen. If history's shown anything with Palmer, it's that he's full of hot air.
-
I can't imagine not having a late seating!

Something is seriously off about all this. The "fall" for starters.
White Island erupts.

Very sad and unfortunate. Some first hand reports for those onboard about the mood on the ship?
