  1. It's not a big secret, but fairly well kept and I don't "blame" NCL for advertising it loudly - it is true, last minute sailings this month & next month ... good TA would know about it or anyone else with time, working their magical keyboard (and, CC'er hanging out here often.)

It's a great "steal" for those self-employed, retirees and otherwise can pack & go ... on short notice - driving / short distance to the nearest NCL pier/cruise terminal ( NYC ... 30 to 45 minutes ride for us, LOL)

Breakaway out of NYC - just sailed yesterday, last minute was $299, Inside GTY & zero supplement - add port taxes/fees & DSC - is about $550 all inclusive. Bonus if you have a CruiseNext to use, that's a "discount" of $100 to $125 based on its face value vs. actual money paid. That bring it down to $450 or even $425 - of course, there are no NCL "freebies" to go with it, no UBP or SDP, etc. - saving mucho $$$ & just pay for whatever extra as desired. Platinum gets a bottle of wine, 2 specialty meal & a bottle of water, plus a bag of free laundry any day of the week - and, nearly every stateroom get a bottle of "bubbles" anyway. Yes, a great deal in my books.

Nearly same deal for this week's BA sailing, prices dropping - $329 for Inside, no solo supplement - still available to book. Now, here's the "bomb" - how about a balcony for under $1,000 for 7 nights ... same sailing, as a solo (it is actually cheaper to book as a solo Balcony-GTY than a Studio, no perks or freebies, of course.) Do a mock sailing & you will see - all that without using any CAS discounts or coupons, but I'm sure those qualified can further sweeten the ("prepaid" casino-rebated for playing) cruise even more. Lastly, NCL stock holders ... can get - still - piled OBC on top by submitting a request to shareholder relations ... whatever the deals are, so more rebate & lowered net cost.

Next week is Jersey Week & there will be kids as schools are out for them, so pricing/availability will be more challenged. Well, fire sales being run by other major lines lately - just need time to research & know how to price them out, etc. etc. - all the usual tricks of the trade for insiders and it's all "Kosher".

Here's something extra for thoughts - with last minute booking, some of the GTY rooms being reassigned, can actually be, if you are lucky - be in a rather nice deck & location, as they might've been reserved & held 18 months ago by seasoned cruisers, like those angled hump balconies ... those are the chances being taken. I would not be surprised to find deals & bargains out of Florida ports, just haven't been checking those.

P.S. Something is happening with all those Studio cabins, they are being vacated - up to 15 of them available at this moment, 5 days to sailing ... could it be that words got around & they upgrade bidded to move up for more space ??? Hmmm, we scored a balcony from a good OV for a poor offer (in the middle of that scale's range too).

Yes I am waiting for the first of January cruise to go that way

on the Breakaway and it is sure to as so many are upset about the decreased number of ports this year.. it has been a giveaway the last couple of years as people are less likely to cruise right after New Years or late Nov and December other than the holiday cruises.. always been a great time for solo cruisers

  2. My first time cruising (although I've been on many overnight+ ferries in Europe). A couple of days ago I booked a couple of solo cruises almost back-to-back (to give it a fair chance if one isn't too great).

The first is Norwegian Sun, southern Caribbean Nov 28 from Miami.

After one night ashore in Miami, the second trip is Norwegian Escape, Western Caribbean Dec 9.

Happy to meet up with other solo travellers on either ship!

    Robert

Robert go to the solo meeting the first night for both cruises on the Escape it will be in a public bar but going forward it will be in the solo lounge. If you are in the studio cabins you will have access all the time but if

not you will need to know how to get in for subsequent solo meetings

  3. First time soloing. Will be on the Carnival Miracle for Thanksgiving - November 18 departure to the Mexican Riviera. Shout out if you are traveling alone as well. Happy to meet and greet.

If you have not already join your roll call you may find some solos there but you will definitely find various people solo or not from your Cruise.

  4. If you go to MTD when it is most busy...say around 700 PM...people that are told they have to wait for a table may be more likely to agree to share immediately, rather than wait...;)

Sorry I found this ship to be the worst experience ever for shared tables. I called the maitre D out on it without much luck. Things may have improved some as I cruised in the last weeks of the failed dining setup they used to have. As a Diamond cruiser I

would not do the Anthem solo

again I would go with assigned seating

  5. HIya, Margaret!

Why don't you think about the 19 January cruise, instead? First time in the Western Caribbean for the Breakaway...

Would be great to meet you aboard, again...:)

    Hi Bob,

While the date of the 19th is better in a way I am just not a fan

of the western Caribbean ports which is why I am looking at the 5th this year

  6. Anthem of the Seas 2 December 2017 12 Nights Eastern Caribbean My first time on her, but have been on Quantum once...

Norwegian Breakaway 19 January 2018 14 Nights Western Caribbean My fourth time on her, but first time in Studio cabin....really looking forward to enjoying the Studio Lounge....

Hi Bob, thinking of doing the 5 January this winter on the Breakaway

rather than the second 2 weeks. But nothing booked as of yet...

  7. NCL Getaway Halloween Cruise ... October 29, 2017 ... Western Caribbean ...

    7 days from Miami

  9. The last page does say 255.........good I am not sailing on any of those cruises.

I used to cruise Celebrity a lot but not in the last couple of years I did RCL out of Port Liberty last year and found the Anthem very solo unfriendly they did not like putting people on shared tables, I prefer

NCL for Bermuda leaving from Manhattan is much better and you are

much more likely to find people to dine with.

  10. So sorry that I missed this. Prices have gone up on this. I really need to get instant subscription so I don't miss these deals :(

Cruisegirl while it shows on the website and still did this morning I don't think that was ever the case... RCCL was having the same issues with their web site earlier in the year.. when you click through it is totally different

  11. I think the only time they had two promos in a studio was cyber Monday last year-- I booked my 2017 February cruise. And all signs point to them NOT doing that tomorrow-- it looks like $50 deposits, which I personally find useless and they've had on and off recently anyway.

I am booked on the 15 January Breakaway 14 day cruise the supplement went down to 50% so booked. Got an amazing deal on the same cruise last year but the drops have not been happening this

    year so booked on Friday.

  12. While I don't like it any better than you do, I must point out that it makes sense from a business perspective. Unless I am in a single-only cabin, I am taking up more space, because I occupy a cabin that would "normally" have at least 2 persons. So on top of the other potential passenger's cruise fare, they are also "losing out" on all on-board revenue from that additional passenger.

Cruise lines have started addressing the issue by including (more) single occupancy cabins in their ship designs, but I think they are still not realizing how big the pool of potential customers is that would like to cruise solo, but can't afford it with the additional cost.

I think the posters beef is that they are now charging more than 200% I am fine with the solo cabins and did one last week on the Anthem no problem with the cabin but have an issue with RCCL feeling that solo's should also eat solo. I called the head waiter out on it and he said people don't want to share tables but a couple of girls at the next table said they would have welcomed it but were never given the option. I was on the Independence 2 years ago and this was never an issue. But as solos we speak with our dollars and even though I am a Diamond cruiser with RCCL I will go back to NCL who have addressed this issue.

  13. I hope you are right!!! I feel bad if the cruise before ours, has to go to Canada. Not that I don't like Canada, but when you wait all year for your cruise thinking you are going to beautiful Bermuda and then it is cancelled....very discouraging. It is really the pier/port that I am concerned with.

All is good we are on our way to Bermuda and so far this is the smoothest Bermuda sailing I have ever been on.

  14. Agree on all points.

In post #3, there was a reference to the ship not having any luck. In post 7, I mentioned that some other folks previously thought the decision to cruise out of Bayonne this time of year and to the ports scheduled. That's a valid point too...as so far as Anthem has had some "bad luck" in terms of being caught in bad Seas more than once.

In the end, we all share the main point/concern...which is everyone's safety.

I am also on the cruise going out this Saturday we have to hope for the best but really don't want to head east in Canada as that is where the hurricane is headed next. I did the Nordic out of NY years ago. It was rough even in June. But the leaving NY isn't the issue I did the Breakaway out of Manhattan in January and while we hit some heavy seas it was well after we left port.. A great cruise and if the price is right I will sail it again this upcoming

    January.

  15. I have been rerouted Twice In last 2 years on trips to Bermuda. They will not let you know till last minute. Both times We went North to Canada. People had no warm close,no jackets, open shoes,A mess for people who traveled from a distance from the port. So be prepared , We received notice morning of cruise both times ,we live near port so quick repack. We enjoyed both but really want to go to Bermuda this time

I was packing for 3 days in NY post cruise anyway so will just add a couple of extra warmer things but do you know what the schedule would be if we end up in Canada. Is it Halifax? and when would we get there and for how long... If we end up there need to meet up with a old friend who moved back there 30 year ago

  16. Gosh glad this went negative so quick. (Local trolls can move on - less trolling - more scrolling please)

It will work for photos and videos as well.

(For the techno savvy - the USB ports even worked for playing Content off a stick too - but I'm in no way explaining details on that!)

Thanks you answered my question I have lots of content on USB sticks

  17. Thank you, I'm primarily a RCCL person, but finding the solo pricing and mix somewhat problematic. I'll check it out. Ciao

I always was I am Diamond on RCCL and due to Freestyle stayed away from NCL for years but decided to try out the ships with the solo lounges and it is a great way to meet people. But this time I am

Back to RCCL in a solo cabin and we will see how it goes.

  18. Tanya which sailing and ship will you be on? I'm doing my 1st & 2nd solo cruise as a b2b on BA in the Haven. [emoji1] I leave on 10/9/16. I have joined the roll calls for both legs but there doesn't seem to be any solos in the Haven. There are several solos on the roll calls though.

Linda check the first day solo gathering it will start in a public bar and then move to the solo lounge. First day is the only day that will happen but they will show you the way to the lounge door that is open every night for the meetings.. This will be the best way to met the solo travellers on your sailing

  19. Hello, pardon me if I missed it, the 2 cruises with solo studios, which cruise line? I'm learning to travel solo and trying to understand cabin options.
