  1. I am going to put my flame retardant suit on now before I say this

if you need your next paycheck to pay off your cruise, then I think you need to get some financial planning in place. It's one thing to live paycheck to paycheck to pay for NECESSITIES, it's another to do it for a vacation. I truly feel sorry for people who are spending their only liquid funds on a vacation (must be why I didn't take a vacation for 15 years in the 1980's-1990's)

There's got to be one in every thread......

Why is it so hard to be non-judgemental of others?

Nobody has any real idea about the lives and situations of others.

Let people work on their own issues themselves and police their own lives and finances themselves. (Unless they ask for your help or insight.)

"Live and let live" is a very wise adage -- but I would also add, "and don't get your judgey britches in a wad!"

  2. We are sailing on the Sunshine Oct 25th. We have a balcony on the Lido deck and we're really looking forward to being that close to everything. I've read lot of good things about those rooms and their location.

Today I got the call offering us an Ocean Suite for $580.00 more. I said no. Any thoughts on the upgrade and if it would have been worth it?

We have a Lido balcony on the Liberty soon. For $580, I would've made the same decision you did -- that's a lot of money!

If the switch were free, I might go for it just to try a suite for the first time, but not for $580.

  3. Beware the vacuum bags. Yes, you can cram more stuff in your suitcase, but it still weighs the same -- awfully easy to go over the 50# airline weight limit. And they make your clothes very wrinkled, too.

    I mix and match everything:

-I take one pair of nice black slacks or capris for the non-elegant dinners and wear a different top each night.

    - For day/port wear I pack 2 pairs of shorts or capris, and several tops that match either.

    - I wear the same dressy outfit for both elegant nights.

I save up my old undies throughout the year and take those with me. Then, as I wear them, I throw them away. Saves more room than you would think on the return trip home.

I force myself to limit shoes -- shoes are a real space and weight killer!:o

  4. This past March (2014) we were on the Sunshine. You can read lot's of reviews of the Sunshine and reach your own conclusions. At any rate, things were so bad in the first 12-15 hours that I went to guest services the first morning and asked for details to invoke the guarantee. We were about 90% ready to invoke at that point.

At the mention of the possibility I might invoke the guarantee Carnival went the extra mile to make the cruise tolerable and we decided to stay on board. The cruise was still the worst we've ever had but they made a significant effort and we thank them for that. We will never set foot on the Sunshine again but that's another story.

I am not suggesting you use the threat as a club to resolve some minor issue. My wife and I both met with the guest services manager and I think she could easily tell we were seriously dissatisfied at that point. Had Carnival not done so much to help resolve our issues we would have jumped ship at the first port. It was that bad. We were very pleased with their efforts to resolve the problems.

We are looking forward to our 14 day B2B on the Splendor coming up this November so I guess you could say they did a good job of keeping us a Carnival customers.

Travler27: did you write a review?

Would be interested to know what went haywire on your Sunshine cruise, what happened to make it your worst cruise.

    Thanks --

  5. We have to buy the package on either day 1 or day 2 correct? If we buy on day 2 we will only be charged for 6 days??

If you buy on Day 2, then you will only be charged for 6 days.

But then any drinks you purchased on Day 1 will be charged a la carte.

  6. Autotips Plus:

+ $5 when we make the request that the minibar be emptied, and that we have bucket/ice and wine glasses each day

+ $20 at the end of the cruise when above has been done (and it always is; they are very accomodating! :) )

    + $2 - $3 for room service

+ $1 extra on drinks if we have "bonded" with the bartender/bar server

+ $20 for head waiter, $10 for assistant waiters for personalized service. example: the best waiter have remembered exactly what we like on the first night (e.g., wine with meal, coffee after) and have anticipated on following nights.

  7. Well Carnival told us where my bag is. At some lady's house in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, it's out of their hands now. They won't tell us her number or email. We're hoping she contacts us soon!! I guess she took our bag and left hers at the terminal. I don't know how people don't doublecheck.

What happens if this lady never contacts you?

I don't understand Carnival not releasing her contact information to you...?

  8. I am very sceptical when a review states that EVERYTHING was bad -- everything?? That just doesn't seem possible to me.

I have had a couple of bad entrees on cruises over the years, but overall the food has been good. Even when faced withthat bad selection, we have found something else we enjoy.

It makes me question people's expectations.....
