  1. Thanks for the input everyone. I was just going to compare to see what my savings is, or what it could be if I bought Cheers. I just wasn't sure which way I wanted to do it. I'm usually one of those on the edge people. I think I'll probably go with Cheers and just mentally note how many drinks I would have bought if I were paying a la carte to see how they compare for me. I know with the package I will get my 5-6 a day average.

  2. I am debating purchasing the Cheers package for the first time but I'm not sure it's worth it for me. Normally I have a couple drinks a day but I know I sometimes skip buying a drink to save the money because I don't really need another drink so I'm not sure how much I really would drink if it was "unlimited". I was thinking I would test my drinking habits this cruise and compare the two ways, unlimited versus a la carte to see which is better financially. So my question is, would you go a la carte and keep track of what you spend or would have spent including drinks you didn't buy for whatever reason, or buy cheers and keep track of what what you would have spent a la carte to see if it was the better deal? Which way would you drink?

  3. I have only done 2 carnival cruises, but have sailed other lines too. Do my play across all line pool to one account? I didn't get any offers directly to me for the cruise I just booked, but did book a " casino" rate online which was a few dollars less than the regular rate. I asked the agent about any other perks and he said to stop by the cage when I get onboard and ask them.

  4. Are you saying there are locations downtown that will bring me to the ship when I return the car? I am renting from FLL when I arrive so I can return it anywhere in MIA, just wasn't sure where was best. I was thinking the airport but then I have $30 cab ride so I was hoping one of the agencies that ran the shuttle to pick up the passengers coming off the ship would also take people returning cars to the ship.

  5. I'm not sure of your logistics, but how are you going to get your car back? Will you have to do this juggling on the return too? It may be best to just keep the rental as if it were your own car and pay for it while you are on your cruise and it is sitting in the hotel parking lot. Then you will have the car available upon your return to drive back and pick up your car.

  6. Thanks Plato123, that is what I was thinking I have to do. I don't care for the one US agency that I can find them on so I was looking for alternative. I would be doing a Med cruise out of Rome of Barcelona so no transfers needed, unless they want to get me from FCO to Citavecchia.

  7. last year on the Gem I didn't get the pass right away, but thought about doing some day passes. I was told I could buy a "full" pass anytime, but it had to be for the remainder of the cruise, not just for a few days, and would be prorated by the number of days left. Best money I ever spent on a cruise.

  8. If anyone can do last minute cruise, NCL is the winner, they have many sailings that are extremely cheap and on top of that no single supplement at all.

Plus you don't need to look at studios, often balcony are cheaper then studios. I know its hard to believe but its true.

Twice I had gotten an amazing deal on NCL where a balcony was cheaper then the studio on NCL Breakaway.

Also I highly suggest looking at cruiseplum website. They don't sell cruises or anything for that matter, they just show you great deals. You just click "solos". It is also updated every single day. That's the only way I find out about amazing deals.

Just three weeks ago I did a 13 day Caribbean on NCL Breakaway, got a guarantee balcony for $749(not including taxes and fees.) No single supplement.

NCL also had a few great deals that are not last minute, all you have to do to is look at that website to be in the know.

How last minute does NCL tend to be on that site? If I am looking at something for April, how close to departure do the discounts show up? I don't want to spend more on air than I do for the cruise

  9. I'm thinking of booking a TA cruise in April on the Konigsdam. This will be my first time on HAL and first TA. Most of my other cruises have been drivable to the port so I never worried about how much I brought. Now with this one involving flights on both ends, I will be a little more conservative. Ideally, I would like to be able to do it with 1 bag to check plus a small carry on, but I'm not sure how to do that for 13 nights, plus a few more in Rome. Are the evenings very formal on these cruises or can I get away with a shirt and tie?

On this same note, do they have any laundry promo's during such a ling cruise? I've heard NCL has a deal about midway through to fill a bag for $20. Does HAL do something like that?

  10. So here is a little twist on this. I am thinking of doing a TA starting in FLL. Will the ship still be in US$ or Euro? Some of the people on the roll calls are discussing doing their own group tours in the ports, and all the prices are in Euro, seemingly paid in cash on the tour. How would I be able to get enough Euro to cover theses if I cannot get to an ATM? Suggestions please.

  11. A couple months ago I was driving by the pier and I noticed a packing lot across the street, maybe 57th or 58th st? that had discounted parking advertised cheaper than the pier. You can drop everyone off, circle back around to this lot, and walk across the street to the ship.

  12. Think of it as what you are paying for the cabin versus paying double. If Carnival wants $1,000 for that cabin, they advertise $500 per person. Since you are only one person, you have to pay the whole $1,000.

NCL solo cabin seem nice although I have not sailed in one yet, but, there are 2 possible cruises I am looking at in April and the cost for the solo cabin is roughly the same as paying the single supplement for a regular inside. $1198 for and inside, and $1199 for a solo cabin. The only difference is that you get to choose the solo cabin, and you are entitled to the one perk at that price. On the regular inside cabin, that is for the inside guarantee and you do not get any perk with that. You would have to upgrade to a better inside level and that is about $200 higher.

  13. I'm thinking of booking a cruise to travel with my 19DS and choosing the UBP perk. Last year we cruised and I signed the waiver for him to buy beer, but because we booked last minute we did not qualify for any perks so all our drinks were a la carte. Does anyone know how it works with the UBP and a technical minor? Can he still get the UBP and have it limited to beer and wine or does he get a soda card?????

  14. I am debating booking the Epic crossing in early April 2017. It is Canaveral to Barcelona so southern crossing with a stop in Bermuda. How much of it are you able to sit outside by the pool for versus staying inside because its too cold? I know it can't control the weather, but was just wondering what most people pack for? Jeans or shorts?
