  1. We did the escape room today with a group of other guests and we escaped with five minutes to spare! It was a lot of fun and if you have the chance, you should do it too!

Sent from my SM-G935V using Forums mobile app

We did it last night, but only had 3 minutes to spare. It was a lot of fun. They say only 25% escape, but it seems like everyone here on the boards is successful. Maybe they say 25% to make us feel good? 😀

  2. I never said my vacation was ruined. I was very sad and disappointed, and it's not going the way we planned...but I will not let it ruin my vacation.

I'm not going to address every comment, as I don't want to spend my vacation dwelling on this. I appreciate the support, and laugh at some of the sillier comments.

My son's first cruise was at 12 months old, again at 3, 5, 6 and 8. Believe me, I know things don't always go as planned. We are dealing.

The funny thing is that, at first, Guest Relations and Hotel said that the "mistake" happened because we booked before the ship was built. They were under the impression that, while the Royal website might show the incorrect deck plan, their internal deck plans on the ship were correct. They were shocked when they checked their own plans and they were wrong too.

I am making it a mission to make sure this is not ignored, and gets updated so that others aren't in my position.

Thanks again. Off to the casino!

  3. Good morning from the high seas!

Thanks for those who have made helpful suggestions! I appreciate it.

I think this is either something you "get" or you don't. In addition to just my son, my 79 year old mother has health issues. I really take care of both of them. But I'm not going to go into more detail about why the door situation was important to us...you will just have to take my word for it (or not...that's fine too). Everyone's situation is unique.

Again, I really do appreciate the supportive comments and suggestions.

I also wanted to post about this in case anyone else was booking these cabins thinking they were getting a different layout. Hopefully, I can save another family some potential aggravation (and maybe even get Royal to correct thei website).

Oh look...time for Bingo! Have to get Grandma over to that 😀

  4. Wow, I echo the sentiments of others, very frustrating and disappointing. When RCI's web site isn't even authoritative for information about their own ships, especially the newest ship...who or what can you rely on?? I would be completely incredulous, staring at the part of the cabin wall where there is supposed to be a door...

On a lighter note, it's nothing a cutting torch borrowed from the engineering team on board can't solve ;)

Funny, because we've been longingly standing by the wall where our door should be. We have also discussed the torch. You've read our minds!

Right now, I'm sitting in a completely dark cabin, hoping my son will eventually fall asleep. Fun times.

  5. So far, I admit it's been challenging. We've cruised a lot. We know how busy Day 1 is. We started asking for a remote control (none in our cabin) when we got to our cabin. We had to ask several people, but still no remote at 11:00. We left a note asking for towels...none were left at turndown. We asked for the balcony partition to be opened, and that also took 3 requests (it happened sometime after 8:00 tonight).

Our stateroom attendant has mentioned several times that it's his first day on this ship, and that's why things aren't getting done. And his supervisor...first day as well.

I'm still hoping things will settle down tomorrow, and things will start going more smoothly.

On the plus side, DS enjoyed AO tonight and dinner at Coastal Kitchen was very good.

  6. Of course you will still have a good time but that is very disappointing. I would write an email when you get back.

I do think you deserve some kind of compensation as this is not the trip you planned (and it is Royal's fault).

Thanks. I'm trying! It's really not what we planned. My son can't fall asleep with someone else in the room. We always put him to bed, then go into the connecting suite while he falls asleep. It's going to be very challenging.

No luggage yet. No cabin steward yet.

  7. I know it's not what you needed, but just ask for the balcony divider to be opened and you have connecting cabins again.

Yes, we will do that, but we can't talk to each other when we are getting ready, etc. And going out on the balcony if my son or mother needs me in the middle of the night is not what we want to do (or go into the hallway either).

I realize it's not the end of the world, but when you've been planning for almost 2 years, it's really disappointing. We would absolutely not have booked these cabins if we knew they were not connecting.

  8. We just boarded HOTS. We booked in April, 2015 direct with Royal, as we wanted very specific cabins -- the only pair of connecting JS's on the ship. We have sailed in connecting JS's on Oasis and Allure. Grandma and DS(8) stay in one cabin, DH and I in the other. That way, I can take care of both Grandma and DS.

Imagine our surprise when we entered our connecting JS's today, the ones we've had booked for almost 2 years, and find that they DO NOT connect. No door. If you look in the Royal website at the deck plans, they still show the connecting cabins...as they have for almost 2 years. But they don't connect.

We are crushed. We don't even have a third birth to move our son into if we wanted to. Just don't understand how this can be. They are saying the ship is full, so they can't move us. Crushed.

  9. Hi... we were also on the Thanksgiving sailing. My daughter is almost 10 and we took her to grease. I had asked rccl ahead of time and they stated they took the really bad parts out to make it family friendly. I am pretty conservative, so there were some parts that I probably would have preferred she didn't hear; however, I think a lot of it went over her head. She seemed to enjoy it, but we were all very tired on the first night. I wish I had seen it a different day when I was more awake.

Thanks. We, too, are scheduled for the first night as they moved the show on the 2nd night to 10:30pm. I think I'm going to leave it to my son to decide -- Adventure Ocean or the show. I have a feeling he is going to pick AO. If he chooses Grease, I'm certain there will be parts that are not for him, but he will live.

Okay, back to packing...I can't believe we fly tomorrow!

  10. Thank you all!

I've been on many Eatern Caribbean sailings, and a couple of Southern as well. No bites. No bites in Hawaii either. However, I am going to bring some repellent wipes, as I think it's a good idea for the zip lining excursion in Jamaica.

  11. Hey everyone! We will be sailing on the Adventure of the Seas in May 2017. This will be our daughters 3rd cruise. She turns 3 in April 2017. Last year we went on the Independence and utlitized the Royal Tots program (which she absolutely LOVED). We want to utilize the programs the ship has again but the age range for the Royal Tots is up to 3 years old. My daughter is on the small side (still wears 18-24 month clothes) and I dont think I'd feel comfortable leaving her in the advneture ocean program (I think thats the 3-11 year olds?).

Does anyone know how strict Royal Caribbean is with their age cut offs? I am leaning towards keeping her in the Royal Tots program if that could be an option.

(If it matters, her bday is April 23 and our sail date is May 13).

Note that the 3-5 year olds are in their own room...not with the older kids. My son sailed at 3 years 2 months, and he had a blast in the 3-5 group. On the other hand, he hated the club on Disney when he was 6 because their club lumped all of the kids (I think it was 3-12) together.

  12. I've never done the Western route (Labadee, Falmouth, Cozumel), and am wondering if I need to bring insect repellent. DH and DS(8) are doing zip line and "bobsleds" in Jamaica, and the shore excursion description on the Royal site says:

    What to Bring:

    • SeaPass card and photo identification

    • Camera

    • Sun protection

    • Insect Repellent

    • Cash/Credit Cards

    • Towel from ship

    • Insect repellent

They list insect repellent twice! I never would have thought to bring it if I hadn't read the description, but I'm wondering if it's actually necessary. Has anyone been bitten up in these ports? Thanks.

  13. We are on this sailing as well. If you haven't done so, you can join our roll call here:

We will be in connecting Junior Suites (the only pair on the ship!) up on Deck 8. Our party covers quite the age range, as DH and I will have our 8 year old son and Grandma traveling with us. Also happy to answer questions!

  14. I used to book directly, but now use a TA because of the OBC. For our upcoming cruise, the perk was $190 OBC and a $75 dining credit. That comes out to be the equivalent of around 9% of our fare. When we did a Disney cruise, we got 8% cash back (as opposed to onboard credit).

The cruise fare is the same if we go direct with Royal or use the TA, so we opt for the 8-9% in value that we get from the TA. The TA is able to make any changes/requests that we ask for. They are also happy to do a 3-way call with Royal if there is something I want to discuss directly. And I still call Royal myself if I wish to discuss anything other than the actual booking itself (for example, I have called regarding entertainment reservations, dining, excursions, etc.)
