  1. The cost drops dramatically after the initial rush off the ship. Hang back for an hour or have a short walk around town before heading to the beach. Most people only stay on the beach for a couple of hours so we have found that later in the day we are the only ones from the ship left on the beach. Never had a problem getting back and never paid that much for a taxi.

  2. Having been on 20+ cruises gluten free. Just tell them on the first night you are the one who is gluten free and before you finish your meal they will furnish you with the following days menus. the first night they will offer you a number of gluten free options from that nights menu. In the self service go to one of the counters or see the head waiter on duty and tell him you are gluten free and they will sort you out. On my last cruise on the night before the last sea day the head waiter told me to go to tea in the MDR the next day. I went and they produced a plate full of sandwiches savouries and cakes. I couldn't eat it all so they wrapped it up for me to take back to the cabin.

My advice to anyone who is gluten free is ask and they will help .

  3. I have had to take a single trip insurance for my cruise next month with allclear. I may cancel my Caribbean cruise next year if I can't get a cheaper quote. Worldwide annual is very expensive now. Maybe P&O could look at including insurance with top ups for pre existing medical conditions.

  4. I think these cancellations frustrate Travel Agents as much as passengers. Princess will cancel a sailing but wants everyone to wait while they figure things out which can be weeks. Sometimes Princess offers a minimal compensation to the passengers and travel agents for their inconvenience but passengers must wait for the official cancellation notice to come through in order to rebook and receive the compensation (minimal of course). Most passengers want to rebook right away as they picked a date for a reason (anniversary/birthday/wedding/graduation). If the passengers cancel and rebook right away, they often don't get what the cruise line is offering.

Princess definitely could do better in this department.

We find ourselves in the same position and because of the date we want and Princesses being unable/unwilling to come to a compromise we will have to cancel our Ruby anniversary cruise on Ruby. We cannot book a replacement with another line until Princess make it official and we won't get compensation for our travel insurance and if we don't rebook with Princess we may lose our deposit we paid onboard because we are very tight to the time limit. Through no fault of ours apart from booking 12 months ago we are going to be hundreds of pounds out of pocket. All Princess are offering is $30 compensation to a cruise on a date we do not want and cannot do. It may be a while before this elite books with Princess again. If Princess do read these threads please reconsider the way you have dealt with the passengers on this particular Ruby cruise(2/21) btob

  5. We fly on the majority of our cruises therefore we travel fairly light. So when we became elite which was on a cruise around Australia we were very pleased.

My wife only sends washing or dry cleaning we will need for the rest of the cruise. We were talking to one lady who always goes home with clean clothes except the ones she is wearing and because she lives locally to a port she brings all her families dry cleaning. We thought she was joking until we saw her waiting for her lift home and saw she had 3 winter coats on hangers draped over her 3 cases it was June. Princess should clamp down on people like this.

  6. I made a mistake in my last post  That Ruby cruise is departing on 18 February.

Thank you for your help it is a good idea. We are going to ask our TA to contact Princess and explain our circumstances and see what deal they can do for us on Ruby on the right date. It would be a double whammy for me because I have a lot of friends who didn't come home in 1982.

  7. You could do the Ruby 14 day Rio to Santiago cruise departing on 18 March.

How would that help, we want to be on the Ruby on 1 March. Maybe 40 years ago I should have thought of this scenario and got married on the a later date.

  8. We were meant to join Ruby on 21 Feb but as I said in another Thread this has been cancelled and Princess have re booked us on the Caribbean on 7 March. This isn't any good to us as we are celebrating our 40th anniversary on 1 March. So on the 19th when Princess says they will publish their changes we will have to book something else. At the moment a 24day on P&O looks favourite and its £1000 cheaper. So on 19th all will be revealed.

  9. This is to replace the post I made yesterday before CC went down and on its return the post was missing. A while back I was contacted by Princess to be part of a focus group on their web site. I have had a number of e-mails like this and opened them with no problems. This e-mail was in the usual format but maybe sent to the wrong address list.
