  1. Glad you have had a reasonable outcome pensioncruiser! We must have got on as you got off. 28th sept we sailed. We also had a junior suite but didn’t have any issues with it. We did have issues however with the dining room. There was a 50 minute wait each night. On the second night we weren’t seated until 9.50 after waiting since 8 pm the staff were miserable and the food just not good at all don’t know what happened in between as sounds like you did not have these problems. There were a lot of complaints  with a good few people saying they were going to cancel future bookings on D2. It was in complete contrast to our sailing in May on E2. Even surf and turf wasn’t v good. Will wait to see Marella response to the formal complaint 😩

  2. We sail on D2 on Sat 🤗can’t wait. we really liked E2 in May far better than E1 maybe because it was adult only but did miss the glasshouse and pizza place from E1. Nonnas was nowhere near as good. We did really like E1 and wouldn’t hesitate sailing on her again but there were a lot of issues on it, probably because it was only the second week of sailing. People we met on E2 were raving about D2 and the atrium. Every ship has its pros and cons . Hope you really enjoy Dronnygirl, let us all know,

  3. We did the same itinerary as you last year on Explorer, in Ajjacio there is a really nice miniature train takes you on a tour of the town and the down the coastline it’s not expensive highly recommend. Civittevechia we have done Rome many times so we went on a tour of Tuscania and food tasting, very good but maybe a bit boring for your teens, marina di Carrera they put a shuttle on into the town if you don’t use that arrange an excursion as the port and surrounds is not nice (imho before someone shoots me) St Raphael is pleasant enough to walk round good beach, Barcelona everything is on your doorstep fabulous place if u have time the hoho is great value. Have a fabulous time hope this helps

  4. I don’t normally disagree with you SausPud but our loyalty on Celebrity/Royal Caribbean entitles us to some decent things like free internet, free laundry, captains party, gelato in the speciality ice cream, helipad sailaway party & lots more. We haven’t been on that many cruises with them unlike some people on here with Marella. It is certainly a factor when deciding who we sail with. Marella should introduce something especially when the prices are going as high as they are.

  5. We were on Explorer 1 last year and Explorer 2 this year. We enjoyed both very much but did prefer Explorer 2 particularly the fact it is adults only. We had quite a few very unruly children onExplorer 1 last year. We really liked the different bars on Explorer 2. Would agree with Dronny girl food on a par with P&O the service and entertainment is far superior on Marella. We are booked on Discovery 2 in September

  6. We haven’t been on Celebration only Explorer and Discovery. We really enjoyed it so much we have booked several more. We went on Britannia once. (We are probably biased as we didn’t enjoy it and wouldn’t sail P&O again) Comparing those 2, the cabins are less well appointed on Marella but nice enough. There are not the number of channels for example on the Tv.  Britannia had lots of really good movie channels and this was a blessing when we didn’t make it into guernsey because there really was nothing else to do. The balcony was just about big enough to put a chair on Britannia they are decent size on Marella ( don’t know if they have them though on Celebration) Food quality about the same on both. Service far better on Marella (there was a real language barrier on Britannia) .1 morning on Britannia we ordered the kedgeree which was the breakfast special of the day they brought a plate of fish curry and a bowl of rice! Entertainment is superb on Marella on Britannia it was abysmal. The entertainment staff really want to give you a good time. On Britannia I don’t think we saw any all week! The drinks package is really good on Marella we choose to upgrade because we like the bottega gold Prosecco for example but there really isn’t a need to if you don’t fancy there is so much choice. Another good thing about the cruise you are looking at is it’s bonded luggage. That is a big bonus! Hope you have a lovely time whatever you choose

  7. In Livorno we were met at the ship by a company called Italy tours. They took us to Pisa and the Florence with a guided tour then some free time I can recommend them it was a great day. In Civitavecchia having been to Rome a lot we took a tour with the ship to Tuscania and then food and wine tasting at an Italian farmhouse which again was a good tour

  8. Yes I would say most of the cocktails are not on the regular menu. Can’t say there was that much of a difference with the wines in the MDR (definitely noticed a difference in surf and turf wine lovely in there) forgot to mention if you like whiskey or gin the separate bar in the squid & anchor is covered on the upgrade. Cocktails are a much better quality as you point out. I think it’s a no brainer but each to his own as they say. Hope this helps
