I also read that it's bad luck to bring back black sand or lava from Hawaii. I have had enough bad luck so I won't be risking it while in Hawaii.

We did however bring back some pink sand from Bermuda (small amount) and managed to buy a beautiful blown glass ornament with a ship in it back here at home in, of all places the dollar store. So I quickly purchased that ornament and filled it with my pink sand. Used a Sharpie black marker and wrote Bermuda 2005 on it and hung it on our Christmas tree. It is now one of my favourite ornaments.

I do not have any models of the ships we've been on but believe this is something that perhaps we should start.

Anyway, your posts about the SS France piqued my interest. I couldn't help you with a model but I do have a book about her. I am not interested in selling it but just wanted to share some info about her with you.

We did not sail on her as the SS France but rather as the SS Norway. Our voyage on her is one of my most memorable cruises. What an elegant ship.

Can anyone tell us if there is public parking anywhere near the cruise port in Honolulu?

We would like to rent a car while in Oahu....are the car rental places right at the pier? Do any companies offer late returns as we would like to go to a luau.

We would like the option to come back to the ship midday so parking close by would be handy.

If there is parking near the port, do you have any idea on the cost to park there?

So glad to see these pictures of the Marco Polo. I sailed on her when she was the Alexander Pushkin from Montreal in the mid 70's with my family. I am looking forward to a time when I can get back on this ship and possibly sail to Antarctica. It looks like one of the new ships of today, It has been well preserved and taken care of.

I sailed on the Flavia in 1977 that was the last cruise and vacation with my family. I remember the Italian officers chasing after my sisters. I can't even remember what the rooms looked like.
