  1. why does a bump annoy you so much? I asked about christmas lights are allowed or not, which is really pertinent to this thread.

Umm, I didn't say annoys me and I explained exactly the issue with bumping an old thread. As GaryCarla also explained, it confuses people who are new who might read it and think they were allowed certain items which may have been allowed then but are not now.

  2. bump - are battery powered or plug in xmas lights allowed? or all xmas lights banned?

I don't see it banned on this list

Bumping a 6 year old thread is just bad form because a lot of items discussed aren't allowed anymore - like soda or water or smoking in cabins and it adds to the confusion of new people. If you couldn't find a newer thread it is acceptable to start a new one.

Battery powered shouldn't be a problem. Plug in might be an issue.

  3. Thanks, am on the Escape in Dec 9th Sailing.. Not to crazy about Buffets, have heard its great and i'm ok for lunch or even breakfast,, but I do like sit down and being served for dinner,, to top it off we are PIA picky eaters, steak and potatoe, so wasn't sure if i should buy the 3 extra meals PP, i think my husband is going to like Cagneys, and will probably do that twice , who knows, still have time to think about it, just more than anything want weather to be nice

As others have said you can get steak & potatoes in main dining rooms. You can avoid the buffet for every meal if you want. I love sit down breakfast (if I'm awake in time) and lunch in the MDRs. And the lunch menu varies slightly each day (it did on my last cruise).

  4. Reservations for the main dining rooms are not needed but can absolutely be made onboard. Worst case scenario with the main dining rooms is that you show up when you want to eat and have a short wait for them to get a large table. If you are booking specialties, make the reservation for 8 and then go see about adding 1 person onboard.

  5. I am concerned about eating, B L & Dinner.. we have 3 free dining , which i think I'm eating , Steak Le Celliars , French Le Bistro and Italian Le Celliars,, now as far as other 4 nites, I'm wondering , we are wheelchair bound, so really don't plan on any excursions , so just want to relax , few drinks and eat comfortably without worrying about sitting ,, do was contemplating on if i should buy another 3 dinner meal pkg.. Any opionions,,, Help please

Not sure of your question but I believe you want to avoid the buffet? Just go to the Main Dining Rooms for breakfast & lunch on sea days and for your other dinners. I believe main dining room is open for breakfast on port days so you can do sit down there those days. For lunch on port days the buffet shouldn't be as crowded as a normal day or you can hit Blue Lagoon or O'Sheehan's (not sure what ship you are on).

  6. It's funny - I was in 10523 which is the furthest non-connecting from the lounge. There is an exit at that end of the hall where there is an interior corridor and I could hear kids running up & down that hall. Also the sound of water rushing by - not sure if that is a regular thing or if the person in the cabin behind mine was sick and in the bathroom the whole trip but that woke me up. For my next trip I picked closer to the lounge & entrance. I'll report back after I sail.

  7. As others have said only the newer ships have the dedicated Haven restaurant for all meals. On other ships the suite perk is breakfast & lunch in a separate restaurant - some ships Moderno, some Cagneys.

Dawn doesn't have a Haven so the suites are non-Haven suites. Some classes of ships have Haven & non-Haven suites - Jewel class for example. Perks for Haven versus non-Haven suites only differ in access to the Haven area.

  8. Depends on the ship, cabin type, sailing date. Some times of year the 3rd-4th person rate is about the same as the rate for an indoor cabin & some times they offer 3rd-4th person free. Like Trip said, go to NCL.com & do mock bookings. Or have them do it. Or have them call a travel agent and have them do it.

  9. I have not seen studio prices come down drastically prior to sailing, but I have seen prices on other categories drop where I could book a balcony with no solo supplement and it would end up being cheaper than the studio (close to sailing). It's a gamble but since you are so far out & only need to put the $50 deposit, you can reserve the studio and then just watch the prices to see about cancelling & rebooking prior to final payment. If the price came down after the $50 deposit special you might need to pony up more deposit money. Also, check if that time has any holidays.

Just to add - even if you aren't in a studio, you can join in on the solo activities.

  10. I just said they probably use the same description - not that that was okay. Maybe you should leave a review on the NCL excursion so that people who don't understand how far the trip really is will have a better idea? Or call the excursion desk to ask them for clarification and to update?

  11. Just a heads up if your thinking of using the spa for acupuncture. We were told that the people who did acupuncture were doctors and we're certified. We told them our insurance company covered acupuncture if it was performed by qualified people. We were assured they were qualified. My wife took two treatments at a cost of 177 dollars each. Upon our return we submitted these bills to our insurance company. They would not cover them. I called the company that contracts the spa and received little support. They said their people were qualified. I asked for proof. They send me a certificate in chinese. Just a warning if you want to use insurance.

thanks for the comments. This is why I used the term heads up so other will learn from my mistake. As for the comments about the title it was an issue with the spa. Also you need to put some blame on NCL as they contract out to this company. We pay good money for our insurance if our insurance cover acupunture and we pay for it we should be covered. Our assumption was (I know what happens when you assume) that the people were qualified this is what we were told.

Your problem lies in the word "qualified" which is what you should have had defined by your insurance company before you went on the cruise and booked the services. You informed the cruise people that your insurance reimburses you for procedures performed by "qualified" people. The people who performed the services were "qualified" to perform the service based on the spa/cruise line standards but that doesn't automatically make them qualified by your insurance company standards.

My experience with procedures like this is that they have to be pre-approved by the insurance company. You can't just show up & get a massage or acupuncture and get reimbursed. Also when procedures like this are covered under insurance they probably have to meet certain criteria including some or all of the following: i) qualified/certified person performs procedure; ii) procedure is medically necessary; iii) location is covered (i.e., in your home country); iv) any precertification is approved.
