1. It's been awhile since I've sailed Princess and I can't remember ..does the dining room serve lunch on port days and does the menu change daily? I am going on the Regal if that makes a difference

  2. I agree - Happy Cruising to all, and enjoy yourselves in any fashion you like on board.

That said, with all happening every night on board, with all you can do, and considering whatever you have paid for the cruise, are you really concerned about what the movies are?

I think its always nice to know what the movies are in case I have some down time..would not like to rent a movie i I know it might be on the ship.

  3. Even when assigned to "traditional" you can use the ATD dining room if an occasion calls for it. I've never been asked to show my card there.

With such an extensive cruise history you'd think you would know that this is not acceptable!! There are other options.

  4. I'm no expert .If your really picky about type and location of cabin you likely have to book early . Especially if your looking at an elaborate / very popular itinerary . But if you just want a good deal and can book fairly short notice , look for a suitable ship and time frame and call your best choice into a TA . I don't know why you get a better deal than an on line booking but that is usually what happens to us . On the C D site you can actually see a lot of the empty cabins available for a specific cruise . ;););););)

    "C D site" ? what's that?

  5.
Once off the wall, we all realized we were starving! So, we headed down one of the side streets (the one that parallels the main street) until we came across an amazing pizza place called Mea Culpa.

One thing I had always remembered about my previous visits to Dubrovnik, was how extremely friendly the people are… and this time was no different. We had an excellent server, great drinks and fabulous pizza. If you stop by here, trust me when I tell you that one pizza is more than enough for two people to share (notice in the photo below that 1/2 is almost as big as the placemat). Here’s what CM and I split (and the server was kind enough to bring it out on two separate plates for us so that we wouldn’t have to split it at the table):

And here’s Ernie with one of his “Big Beers” (the big beer, small beer things was a running joke throughout the cruise)

So, bellies full, each couple decided to split up and meet back on the ship. CM and I did what we do best… shopped! I was on a mission this visit to get earrings to match a necklace I had purchased on an earlier trip. Dubrovnik makes these special pieces to replicate the buttons worn on the old soldiers’ uniforms. It’s quite a beautiful design IMO. So, we found a little shop and went to town. The silver prices are really good in Croatia and Bosnia (well, to me they are). They also sell by weight. So you might be looking at two pairs of earrings that look similar in size, but they will put each on a scale before giving you the price. I found my perfect earrings and CM ended up buying her own set of “Dubrovnik Button” earrings and necklace. Mission accomplished, I was now free to just browse around the little shops along the street. Of course, I also had to buy some slivovitz…. The fruit and herbal brandies they are known for there. This stuff packs a punch and takes a bit of getting used to. Most of the little shops though will allow you to taste before you buy….
    Bonus!

Shopping done, we decided to just relax with a glass of wine at a little café. When the bill came, we suddenly realized they only took Kuna. No credit cards, no Euros… just Kuna… which we had none of. So, off I went in search of an ATM (which wasn’t too hard to find) and took out the smallest amount I could. After paying, we still had 30 Kuna left (about $6). So, we forced down some gelato from another shop (yes, it was pure torture to have to eat that creamy yumminess…lol) and I gave my remaining coins to a street musician playing near the gate as we made our way to the bus stop. We didn’t have to wait long and by 5:30, we were back on the ship.

So, to sum things up, Dubrovnik is an extremely easy town to DIY. It’s also very affordable. The people are fantastic and there is something there for everyone from culture, to history, to shopping, to scenery. If you ever have the chance to visit, please don’t pass up the opportunity.

    Up next, Halloween Night!!!!

    Hi Melissa...Peggy here

Love the pic of Ernie with his "big beer"...brings back soooo many great memories...hard to believe its been a year already!!
Absolutely love reliving our fabulous cruise through your review..you're doing a great job...can't wait to hear about your experiences in Rome since we'll be returning next year. Maybe we can pic up some tips!
  6. Hi Melissa.....Peggy here. We just got back from the Allure this morning and the first (well maybe the third!) thing that I did was check to see if you had posted anything new.....have to tell you Ernie has been very busy causing trouble and I have been even busier( reigning him in)

We are off to see our son in Pennsylvania the end of this week and are stopping by on our way to see your "in-laws" I know we'll have a ball reminiscing about our adventures!

I an just loving your review..it seems like only yesterday we were all together...sure hope we get invited to the wedding (I promise I'll make sure Ernie behaves!)

  7. I don't want them in my room. I call room service and leave them in the hall. To the people saying it's a tripping hazard or that it makes it hard for wheelchairs: I think you're overreacting. Rarely do I travel the hall when I don't have to contend with a room service cart, or a vacuum, and I almost never find poor souls flat on their face after being taken out by these hazards. Nor do I ever have to rescue some forlorn individual who is wheelchair bound and hopelessly stranded.

It's just like a hotel. Put it in the hall and be done with it. Want to feed your own sense of awesomeness? Then by all means, let your dirty dishes sit in your room until your steward comes.

    WOW...kinda harsh?

  8. Just off the Allure. I do not know about the lounge as I never used it but our three free drinks as Diamond members were available in any of the bars from 6 pm and the free drinks were available on all nights including the first night.

There is no coupon. You can go to any bar as you board give them your sea pass card and they can give you a print out of all your perks.

You still have to sign a tab with a zero balance for your free drinks.

Wow...did they change the hours? Thought it was always 5:00 to 8:30 not 6:00?

  9. Gee thanks Melissa..now all of CC world knows about Ernie's 5 minutes of fame!!

Actually I had forgotten just how funny it was..great to reminisce..... plus I couldn't take any pics since the camera was in Ernie's pocket on stage so I'm glad you got some.

All he can say is he's glad he was able to grasp the strap so quickly!!

We are so lovin reliving our cruise through your review...great job!!

  10. Cruised on the Allure 3 years ago.

Elevators in the front and back of ship. Allow 15 minutes to get to most places on the ship.

    Especially when leaving your cabin.

150 Central Park was one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten in.

Chefs table was magnificent. Pricey but well worth it

Big negative...no omellete station in Windjammmer or anywhere else on the ship (or wasn't when we sailed)

They now make omelettes at the whipeout cafe
