  1. Yes.  It was a medical reason that was denied.  Even though the diagnosis came after final payment, my husband's original medical appointment was the day before final payment so it was considered a pre existing condition making our reimbursement fall under cancel for any reason.  We received 50% cash back on both the air and cruise.  We received the other 50% back in cruise credits and the air credit was with the airline direct.  We were able to book the same cruise later in the year.

  2. We did the 11 day cruise last year on the Regal.  It was a wonderful cruise.  We also thought of adding a Moscow day and then decided to spend all of our time in St. Petersburg.  We did a 2 day tour with TJ Travel and were extremely pleased.  There was so much to see that we are thinking of a future river cruise between Moscow and St Petersburg.  We also used TJ to book in several of the other ports for tours and each one was perfect.  We really loved our tour in Tallin.  Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for some real world experience.  Given you were past final payment date, do you know why they gave you a partial cash refund instead of a 100% travel credit?  Good to know that the airline credit was separate from the cruise credit.

Yes, we were at the 50% cancellation threshold so we received 50% cash and 50% credit on both.  We rebooked for later in the year for the same cruise and came out fine.

  4. Sorry, we did not go to Nuuk on our trip.  I'm going to say it was about 10-15 minutes for the tender at most.  We had to wait to unload as there was a second ship in and only one dock in both ports.  We were on the Pacific Princess and the other ships were small, as well, so there was no congestion issue in port.   I remember it was slower going back to the ship in Qaqortoq as it was starting to rain and the water was pretty choppy...my Husband took a big wave in the face through the window on the side of the boat and got soaked.  LOL.

  5. Here are some photos from Qaqortoq.  It is a larger town with better paved streets.  It is not as flat as Nanortalik and you are walking either up or down in every direction.  We walked the town and some of the surrounding streets to view the Stone and Man lithographs on the rocks.  There are many across from the dock and there are others all through the town and surrounding areas.  The fish market was a gathering area for the locals and the "catch" was very interesting.  We had lunch with the locals at "the best hot dog stand in Greenland" just across from the dock.   It was good and we enjoyed our experience.  There were lots of icebergs in the bay as we sailed out of town in both towns.

  7. I'll do two posts with pics.  These are from Nanortalik.  There is no public transportation and uneven paths.  The first pic shows the dock for the tenders.  We walked through the town and were fascinated by the stores and how the 1500 residents lived.  The highlight was the walk back through town and then through the residential area to the cemetery.  The view was spectacular and the colorful homes throughout the town were amazing.  It was unlike any other port we had ever visited.  I did not see wifi advertised anywhere.  There was only one little cafe and a coffee bar in one of the supermarkets.  Greenland is not included in our ATT phone plan so we were "offline" in port during this time.  We loved Nanortalik.

  8. We had 4 days and did both of the Hamlet Tours on two of the days.  Both were very good and we were able to squeeze in so much more than we ever could have on our own.  https://hamlettours.com/     We did a Foodie Tour on the first night that we really enjoyed.  It was a good introduction to Copenhagen.  We even went back to the marketplace on our last day to purchase cheese and some other items that we tasted to take home.  https://copenhagen.foodtours.eu/product/evening-gourmet-stroll/  Our last day was reserved to go back and see anything that was missed and a return trip to Nyhavn.  We had a Copenhagen Card that we used to get around, but the town is very walkable....just don't stand in the bicycle lanes!  They stop for no one!

  9. Yes, we made our reservation request immediately when we boarded.  You will then be notified if your request will be honored and on what day the Chef's Table ( or Luminare) will be held.  Sometimes, depending on the cruise, there are more than one nights.  We did not have a choice.  We paid $115pp on the Regal but I believe it is $95pp on non Luminare ships.  It was well worth doing at least once.  Allow about 3 hours.

  10. We used the coupon in August for the first night and there was no rush to pick your time.  The Steakhouse was mostly empty.  They give out the coupons in hopes of filling up the venue on the first night when most people would  not making a reservation.

Does anyone know where to confirm this was added to the account? I tried looking in my account and I cannot locate it. Although I see my other perks. 🙂 Thanks

Look on your reservation at "Onboard Reservations" and go to the bottom of the page to the summary.  It took about 24 hours for ours to show up.

Do they still offer the $99 deal?  I haven't read any reports of that deal in last couple years, and thought they had done away with it.  I've been looking regularly on my 2 upcoming cruises and only have seen the $249 price.

I have not seen it offered in years or I would be all over that.

  13. We have had it on the last 5 cruises and for us it is a good value.  My Husband and I had about 85 pictures from our last cruise.  I really don't care about the hard copies as I make photo books online and will use most of them in my books.  I use all of the port pictures to open that port in my books.  The 8X10 pics were $25 each without a package.

We are excited to be taking this cruise next year.  Just booked it today with our Princess agent.  MY DH is mobile but not for long piers like some in the Caribbean..he walks with a cane..for those of you who have been to Greenland, please let me know if the piers are a long walk..I can't tell from the pictures.  Thanks very much.

There is a lot of walking on uneven surfaces.  There are no sidewalks and no taxi's.  The ships tours picked you up at the shuttle docks after you came over on the tender boat.

  15. We were in Qaqortoq,  Nanortalik and cruised through Prins Christian Sund in August on the Pacific Princess.  All were memorable!  The Sund was one of the best days ever on a cruise ship.

Nanortalik:  We walked the town and as others have mentioned, there is no shopping but lots of local culture.  Take $5 for the outdoor museum.  Checkout the two supermarkets--no fresh meat.  Walk across town in the other direction to the cemetary-the view is amazing.  Check out the colorful homes-we saw fish drying outside of several.  We had a local whale watching tour booked but it was cancelled as the ship changed dates twice within two weeks of arrival and all of the flip flopping was too much for the tour company.

Qaqortoq:  Planned to walk around this town.  We saw the rock scultures throughout the town, the harbor, museum and don't miss the fish market.  All of the locals were hanging out at the fish market and there were lots of freshly caught fish.  We had a hot dog and fries at the best hot dog stand in Greenland-or so we were told-and ate with the locals.  Right off the pier and it was good.

Prins Christian Sund:  We had fog all morning and could not see past the railing on our balcony.  Then as we entered the Sund the clouds parted and we had an afternoon of clear blue skie and crisp sunny weather.  We spent the entire afternoon on the deck taking pictures and enjoyed talking with our fellow passengers.  About 2/3 of the way through the Sund there was a small village, Aappilattoq, of about 132 people.  Only accessible by boat the small colorful homes were amazing.

If you want a tour, book early and have a back up plan in case weather causes a cancellation.   There is plenty to see with or without a tour.  Enjoy your cruise!
