  1. Interesting discussion with travel agent today about QE 24 June 2021 booking where balance is due on 18 March 2021. Told TA Cunard doesn't require balance until 25 May 2021, so I would pay them 14 days before the May due date, which is normal.
They called Cunard to check T&Cs. These have not been changed, despite the final payment date change:
91 days - loss of deposit
    90-57 days - 50%
    56-42 days - 60%
    41-16 days - 75%
    15-6 days - 90%
    less than 6 days - 100%
So, if anyone is minded to cancel when Cunard's balance is due (now 30 days), bear in mind you will pay 75% of the fare.

Note - if you transfer your booking to another cruise, there is currently no admin fee and the deposit will be moved to the new cruise.

This is just applicable to cancellations.
  2. Some balconies on the "hump" are larger

    Standard room, large balcony are: 7077, 7056, 6090, 6095

    Angled room/angled balcony forward: 7034&5; 6052&49; 5054&51

    Angled room/angled balcony aft: 8130&29; 7098&119; 6146&51; 5148&143

The grades vary between BA/BB depending if midships or not and lower if on deck 4.

Deck 4 have some larger balconies on the "hump". These are classed as obstructed as when looking one way, there is a lifeboat blocking visibility:

    Forward 4052&4; 4051&3

    Aft 4146&141

As HH said, all deck 4 balconies are deeper but overlooked by above.  The front balconies on deck 4 marked with an asterisk on the deck plan have metal front balconies, instead of glass, so not great for sitting on a chair looking out to sea.

Here are some images of an forward angled balcony/room - No 8032 which is a club balcony

  3. We have done both and 100% prefer Cunard.

Out of US to Alaska, formal was none

existent.  Out of UK people made more effort.  The 1st night the majority wore formal but the 2nd, only about a third did (on a 7nt trip).

Food is not so good on Princess - we dined Club Class on Princess and you paid extra if you wanted steak. I enquired about duck and was told it was on about 2 weeks ago and didn't know when it would be on again.

Overall Cunard is superior on my eyes but it does tend to have an older demographic and is very quiet after about 10.30pm, whereas Princess is a little livelier, not excessive like some lines, but definitely busier later on.

If you use the casino, Princess beats Cunard hands down.

We're on that one in QG, having booked it almost a year ago whilst on board.

You're right about the sharp increase in price

Wouldn't it be lovely if we can meet up.  Hope we didn't take your desired cabin 🙄.  We always like the Q6's on deck 5.

  5. For suites on the Grand, Club Class is the usual restaurant.  You can use any restaurant, but Club Class is anytime dining, usually with no wait.   Every evening, there is an special item on the menu which the waiters advise you of.  Service is attentive as it is a very small area sectioned off the main restaurant (identified with grey tablecoth and napkins).  We always eat late and never had to wait for a table and chose where we wanted to sit on most occasions (window or booth).

We were escorted onto the ship in SF and brought into Club Class dining for lunch on embarkation day.

Suite guests go to Crown Grill for breakfast where Mimosas are served (or neat for me as I don't like orange juice).  I usually had a couple in the morning - a very nice start to the day 😁

You can attend the early evening discounted drinks every evening too with some nibbles, ie. cheese etc.   This is available to suite guests and Platinum and Elite members of the loyalty club.

I attach a photo of a small area Club Class dining.

Another evening we really enjoyed was in Dubrovnik old town in June last year, the Cellist Anna Bruckner gave a great performance.

Just has impressive to us was the amount of birds, Swallows, Swifts and Martin's wheeling around above the town.

They may not have been welcomed by the people dining outside the restaurant's but we were fascinated by them, never seen so many in one place.

We were there too and the performance was excellent. Very lucky to sit on the second row with two empty seats in front of us for some reason, which worked nicely in our favour.

I agree with your comment about the birds, I have never seen so many in one place.  It was a wonderful evening.

  7. 14 July at 1730 received an email from UK TA confirming refund amount (which is correct and inc Princess booked flights) will be refunded to my credit card - just waiting for it to show up online now.

14 April 2020 cruise cancelled by Princess (Crown Princess 23 May 2020, Europe).

I have not chased Princess or filed a CC dispute, just waited patiently. 🤨

  8. I had a refund cheque from P&O today, so much quicker than Cunard.

Cunard  - cruise cancelled/refund requested 16 March (cruise 28 March). Cheque received 1 June.

P&O - cruise cancelled/refund requested 23 April (cruise 27 June). Cheque received today.

Princess  - cruise canceled/refund requested 15 April (cruise 23 May). Nothing.

Advised agent who said all refunds would come to them and paid to my credit card, but cheques received instead - not sure how Princess will deal with things, but I understand they're only just working with Pause 1 refunds, and our is Pause 2.

  9. After P&O's cancellation on 23 April (refund applied for immediately from the link).   The cheque came in the post today (lunchtime) for 27 June cruise.   This is the quickest refund yet.   Email just received confirming they'd sent it.

This is a much faster refund than my Cunard cruise which was cancelled on 16 March (for a 28 March sailing) and cheque received on 1 June.

Still awaiting a Princess refund applied for on 15 April (for 23 May sailing).

I have a TA and have advised them I've received both P&O/Cunard directly, despite them saying it would come through them and back to my credit card.   Who knows where the Princess one will come from.

  10. 16 March Cunard cancelled QV 28 March cruise in QG3 (surname begins with W)

Applied for refund via email link in cancellation email the same day. which advised 45 days to process.   Advised TA I had done this. They said refund would come to them and they would refund my credit card directly.

1 Jun - full refund cheque received directly from Cunard (cheque raised on 28 May) by post.  I advised TA I have received it.   I chased TA once but not Cunard directly.

  11. We have been successful in using the lift and shift option, moving our booking from 10 Oct 2020 (9nt) to 9 Oct 2021 (10nt).

As we had booked through a TA, I called Azamara to ascertain which voyages we were allowed to move to.   4 options were given, different ships, plus/minus 1 night.  There was another cruise I'd seen in Oct but that was 11nts so not an option.

We were in a tricky situation as we had booked 2 spa suites with friends, so knew we had limited optioons to move due to there only being 2 of these suites on each ship.

I asked if we could move up to the next category and pay the difference or down and pay a lesser sum.  This was not an option as they would treat it as a new booking at the current price with the current perks and just transfer our paid deposit over.

Effectively I had only 1 cruise available to me, which I managed to secure above, so very pleased as next year's price has increased.

I got in touch with my TA by email who moved the booking to next year without any issues.

    Very pleased with the process.

  12. I have checked on the P&O website and can only locate dress codes (as per below) for 2019 but nothing for 2020.

Arcadia from cruise J814 through to J921

Aurora from cruise R818N through to R927

Azura from cruise A827 through to A932A

Oceana from cruise E820 through to E929D

Oriana from cruise X818 through to X913

Ventura from cruise N826 through to N938

Britannia from cruise B828 through to B934D

Does anyone have a link to enable this to be looked up please?

I know on the Cunard forum, there is a link to the 2020 themes which is helpful as the personaliser doesn't show any dress code (despite it saying it will).

The website says the personaliser SHOULD give the information but it doesn't, hence why asking now.

  13. On the Sapphire in Apr 2019 in a suite (and being Elite), we were given Gin and Vodka only as they had run out of Dewars and brandy.  We don't drink gin, so asked for this to be replaced with vodka.

As you can see, we had quite a few to keep us going😲
