  1. Hi

We are on board too. The captain made an announcement a about 8am to say it was unable to tender due to adverse whether conditions so we are having an enforce seat day.

They have managed to arrange a few speakers to fill in.

We just went to the casino and I manag d to win 131 dollars on a 30c spin, s but not a bad morning.

Had a lovely lunch in QG and now settled in room chilling with some fizz. All very nice.

Our first formal night tonight although when we returned after the room had been made up the TV said it was informal. Checked with The maitre d and he has confirmed it is definitely informal so not sure why the TV hasn't caught up.

  2. Not necessarily an upgrade, but received an email for an upsell and took it the day before we board. Luckily I was at work when it popped into my inbox and was able to accept the offer immediately.

If people don't take the upsell I am sure there will be some free upgrades going on.

  3. Thank you for posting.

It is always sad when a great contributor to the forum passes. Salacia had great knowledge of all things Cunard.

Thoughts are with those left behind but memories that will always be treasured.

  4. Good for you. That is a very good result.

We have been assigned today for 22 Sept - on an A1 Gty, we got exactly that, deck 12, immediately under the sports deck on the starboard side - let's hope there's no tennis/soccer/golf players are board who are using it up above us

Thank you for your information. I hope you enjoyed watching the eclipse. We only saw it on the news in the UK.

I'll wait with bated breath to see what is offered in Alaska when the official itineraries come out, however I probably won't book until we board QM2 on 22 Sept as it will be nice to get extra OBC. Let's hope there's some cabins left :)

  6. Blue Marble - am I correct in thinking that there are 3 x 10 night cruises doing a round trip from Vancouver Alaska trip or am I missing something here? It seems rather odd that they would do it 3 times.

"May 31-Jun 10 Vancouver, (Alaska), Vancouver

    Jun 10-20 Vancouver, (Alaska), Vancouver

    Jun 20-30 Vancouver, (Alaska), Vancouver"

  7. So pleased to note that decks 4 and 5 haven't changed.

We had 5191 last September and loved the cabin and balcony. It is a shame they have removed the dining table as we had many champagne breakfasts outside.

Gill/Tony - enjoy the cabin as we did. You will remember it well after joining us for pre-dinner drinks last year.

  8. It was an amazing sailaway [emoji4]

I know what you mean about Deck 8, we were in Britannia Club on QE and it was the noisiest cabin we've ever had.

We had a Club on deck 8 too but we had the A2 on the hump so thankfully no overhead noise, although we did hear some thudding music from the Yacht Club late at night.

  9. I remember enjoying that balcony with you

I'm interested to see how the aft balconies on deck 8 look - whether there's a big overhand similar to the QE making them quite dark. I don't understand why they will now be Q4's - you are paying more for scraping chairs up above you! Okay, they will have no furnishing etc but they should have left them as Q6 and Q5's.

  10. 1. The first time we had ever been on a ship - boarding the QM2 in NY for a QG transatlantic to Southampton.

    2. QM2 for the Queens Jubilee short trip, despite the horrible weather.

    3. Queen Elizabeth in 2014 Dubai to Southampton - great friends on board with us, met many others too. It was fantastic when all 3 Queens were docked together in Lisbon and the birthday whistle in Southampton from the QM2 upon our return.

Lots of other trips, but these were the most memorable.

  11. We are doing the NY to Quebec trip on the QM2 in September.

I assumed I would need an ETA for Canada as a GB passport holder, but it says if "arriving by sea" you do not. I presume not if departing by sea also.

We will disembark QM2 in Quebec, (using flights arranged by Cunard and their transfers) flying from Quebec airport to Montreal for a BA flight back to London.

My query is if disembarking and flying back from Canada, will I still need an ETA?

Regardless, I know I need a USA ESTA, but it's the Canada ETA that's confusing me with the sea arrival, but flight departure.

  12. My husband tends to wear a full suit and tie on the majority of informal nights, but very often the first night or last (ie. embarkation/disembarkation) he will not have the tie. If he is wearing a full suit, I wear a cocktail dress and if he's without a tie, I tend to wear just a shift dress, so we are in sync!

It very much depends on the shirt - as some shirts look much better without a tie, than with.

That is in all category of staterooms, QG, PG and Britannia Club.

  13. I would definitely not choose these.

QV - 8078 (PG) - Below a vinyl covered walkway between winter garden and Lido where trolleys trundle over a raised room divider lip and noisy footsteps walking above. Also, constant noise from whack of golf balls from deck 10.

QE - 6092 (PG) - a door to a room opposite where stewards replenish trolleys and congregate outside talking very early in the morning.

QE - 5092 (BA) - friends had this cabin. The balcony is covered by the balcony above so no sunlight and makes the room very dark.

  14. Not any more. The Texax Hold em table disappeared when the single deck 2 cabins were installed.

Tables now consist of regular Blackjack, Fun 21 Blackjack, 3 card poker and 2 roulette.

It's the same on the QV.

I haven't been on the QM2 since the refurb so not sure if the Texas table has disappeared from there - I do know the Craps table has gone though.

  15. Our OBC which we purchased prior to boarding was not shown on our account when we arrived on ship, but it was rectified very quickly with the pursers office.

After disembarking, we always check the credit card account and it shows odd "pending" amounts. Wait a few days and hopefully you will have a final amount which will match the paper one you received on the last day, which then gets exchanged into Sterling at whatever the exchange rate is at the time.

Only once, we had a mischarge to our credit card and Southampton rectified it straight away over the phone - it took about a week to be returned to the credit card.

  16. It was nice to have drinks with you in 5191 Gill. We definitely prefer deck 5 to 4.

We had drinks in 4188 - a Q5 on this current trip and am amazed it has a shower curtain rather than screen.

It has been a bumpy rise in the Bay of Biscay last night so am pleased to get into the channel now.

We certainly felt the rolling on deck 8.
