  1. The one time we booked with on line 'low deposit' we didn't have to scroll through all the Ts and Cs - before we completed the booking it immediately came up what date the remainder of the balance had to be paid by and clearly stated that the rest would have to be paid in the event of cancellation.

We booked with our TA who didn't specifically mention this, but did refer us to the T&C's and check everything was ok. I didn't bother to check and it turns out it wasn't necessary in our case anyway, but there was no clear statement for us. The OP didn't find it to be clearly stated either.

What may be obvious for you may not mean it is for everyone.

  2. Yes, as everyone points out to the OP, its in the T&C's. Although we should, how many of us actually do go through the reams of T&C's ? There are low deposit deals out there that don't have the same penalties as this. What other T&C should we be aware of with somewhat hidden in plain sight terms?.

This maybe a lesson for us all, its just a shame we have to read pages & pages and play detective to find out if the deal we get is the deal we think we're getting.

Just like advertising with free this and free that - I get very cynical about these companies and their tactics and considering the age group that is being targeted, I find it unscrupulous.

My sympathies are with the OP, but I doubt there will be another cruise company out there that won't push the envelope of legality within their promotions.

  3. All our cruises at the beginning were insides. Left the bathroom light on but shut the door to leave the tiniest bit of light into the cabin. Usually reasonable size and very affordable compared to balconies. Only once we were situated the lowest deck and the last cabin at the bow - quite noisy and alot of movement, crashing waves etc. We then started using balconies which did cost alot more and once we had, it spoilt us and was hard to go back to an inside thereafter. Now we have retired, we have to cut our cloth and have to consider the cost and can cruise twice as many times for the same money with an inside. We did miss the natural light in the mornings so have now opted for an outside cabin for which our Marella cruise was only £37pp more for 2 weeks. We would still try to get a cabin close to midships as we can.

Looking forward to many more cruises on Marella :)

  4. Port Authorities seem to have conflicting information :s

I will try cruisetimetables.com but I think after that I’m going to give up and treat it as a surprise

That surprises me as the schedule for the port shows that the ship has actually been booked in. Which ship/destination/date are you looking for?

  5. Another method I use is to google the port authority for the destination country and look for the ship schedule for the ports. Can be useful when cities have multiple ports as you can see that the ship has been actually booked in one of them. Bangkok is a classic example where Whats in Port etc state Leam Chabang where most ships go, but the smaller ships go to Khlong Toei in in the centre of town - even the cruise line said Leam Chabang which was wrong. .-

  6. Anyone looking to do ALLA GRAND TOUR excursion with us?

I think you may have more luck attracting people to the tour if you post this on the roll call for your cruise.

I think this is yours but doesn't look too busy. https://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2664765

    Good Luck

  7. I have just realised that our outside cabin (3534) is an interconnecting one. Does this create any problems regarding noise from neighbours. We have experienced a hotel that was interconnecting and the room had noisy children banging the door which I imagine was worse than it being a plain wall. We're on an adult only cruise so children won't be the problem, but perhaps noisy neighbours?

    Thanks in advance

  8. Lexdisic order the drink your wife wants without too much ice and then she'll get a longer mixer

That will work as she doesn't usually have ice anyway, or very little. The problem may occur with the cocktails with multiple spirits and the Irish coffee - she really just likes a small splash that for me I could hardly taste. Baileys coffee maybe the solution there as she can drink it by the bucket with a splash of coffee :)

Our last AI on Azamara they didn't bother with measures and just poured, which ruled out daytime drinking even for me - fortunately the bar staff soon learned'

Ohh - the first world problems of cruising - I'm sure we'll manage though :)

  9. Thanks for replies. I ask as I drink Southern Comfort straight up and to save having to wait/get another one later. The wife on the other hand prefers a very small amount in her drink and sometimes has great difficulty conveying this to both the generous pourers and those that stick to the measure.

  10. We're off on 22nd Nov Discovery Authentic Arabia 1 and although tours are not for sale yet, there is nothing listed for Sir Bani Yas.

Has Tui visited this Island before? I have noticed other cruise lines take BBQ and bar on shore and set up their own beach gathering or failing that, tours that can only be organised using the local operators.

Anyone have any info on what they may do here?

    Thanks in advance

  11. It will be our first time in the Middle East, looking forward to seeing and learning about the culture and history there.

We end up visiting the area on most cruises we have done with additional land holidays there - any excuse to get back there. Culture, food, people - right up our street - fascinating. Too many "must do's" that cruising barely scratches the surface. Now is a good time to visit - its starting to get expensive there now - payback for the massive investment they have made in recent years - hopefully the culture won't suffer too badly because of it.

  12. It looks like an interesting itinerary, thank you, you wouldn't think it was so hard to get an answer from tui or visa company!

Yes - a very interesting itinerary. We never tire of the Middle East and Asia but this one we visit 3 stops we have never been to before.

Fortunately our TA was on the ball and found out about visa's for us as they did for the majority of our cruises. We've found most cruise line information on them is like pulling teeth and desperately avoid taking responsibility by telling you anything yet they arrange for alot of the countries we visited. Considering they arrange for the staff anyway, you would expect them to be experts at it.

  13. We are booked on Authentic Arabia 1 in November this year. Does anyone know if the necessary Visa is obtained at the port in Oman and charged to your onboard account? If I contact Tui they pass me to the Visa Company for confirmation who in turn passes me back to Tui! Very frustrating not being able to get a straight answer!!

We're on this cruise too :) - As Vitalsign says, TUI do all the visa's required - We take copies of our passport main page, don't wamt to risk losing passport, but have never needed them at any time - maybe the time we don't...............

In the past cruises (not TUI) charges are made to the onboard account which I believe was a group visa arranged by the ship. The cost was about £15pp but things change frequently and not all ships actually charge for it. TUI in our information haven't said they would be charging, then again they haven't said they would either

  14. So you think you have paid something but dont know much.

Don't you think the staff would know if they had been paid something and how much.

Just wish someone would come up with some figures to prove me wrong.

In case people are wondering im very pro proper tips, i just hate seeing the staff getting stiffed because people think they have already paid them something.

They are being paid wages which is none of my business how much they get or how they get it- considering most give extra tips, who are the people that think they have already paid?

We all know about the marketing jargon cruise lines use - let it go over your head and enjoy your cruise rather than getting stressed about how people get paid or what its called - it really doesn't matter. If you don't like something then do something else.

As Pensioncruiser said " I'm out of this post"

  15. "All tips and service charges are included in the price of your cruise. You’re not expected to tip any of our crew – unless you want to, of course."

Included in the price of your cruise, what is clearer than that? You are obviously not getting something for nothing and it does not imply that.

The so called tips are not itemised and we have no need to be concerned about how Marella pay their crew. After all we all know the passenger pays for everything and I know Marella crews are just as efficient as other cruise lines crews.

Other cruise lines discretionary tipping forms part of the wages and the ability to remove the tips just allows some passengers to stiff the crew. Reducing the tips because of bad service is just a cover story. If you are unhappy with a crew member talk to their supervisor, that is what I do.

Why try to provoke a tipping argument here, go to the P&O board instead and read the constant stream of heated discussions on the subject there

    Well said
