We did. We currently have a booking for The Splendors of Egypt and the Nile next spring. The total discount ended up totaling around 20%. Having said that, flights to and from Cairo are not looking "fun," with regard to duration. We have also always wanted to do an Adriatic cruise, so have a Viking Ocean Empires of the Mediterranean cruise booked. We will make our final decision in the next couple of months. It will be our 25th anniversary next year, so wanted to make it a longer cruise. I think Uniworld refunds all but $400, but you have 5 yr to use that toward a future booking, and we know we will do another Uniworld cruise. Burgundy/Provence is definitely on our list (as this is the cruise that was canceled this year, causing us to do the Paris/Normandy one again)

We are doing the Uniworld Nile cruise in February 2019 and the Viking Star, Empires of the Med in June 2019. Sounds like good choices.:)

Thank you all for your insights.

Sawtooth,
Which sailing are you on? We are on the June 17th Amsterdam to Basel Castles along the Rhine with Uniworld.
Too bad, we are on the June 2, 2019 Cruise.
Would have been nice to connect.
-
Yes, I posted this some time ago.
We only received $100pp for Castles on the Rhine for 6/19 and a bit more for Nile cruise 2/19.
It was a small percentage for the Rhine cruise and actually a better percentage on the Nile cruise, go figure😳

It would be helpful if you listed the cruise line, as the tours can vary depending on the line.
Ah yes, thank you.
We are on Uniworld.

We will be on the Viking Star, June 2019, Adriatic Coast, Venice to Athens.
My question is about touring in the ports.
After we do the included tour in each port is there generally sufficient time to do another tour.
We could either look at Viking optional tours or book independently with Tours by Locals.
Or, in some cases, skip the included tour (if consensus is that they are not all very good), and book something else.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. This will be our first Viking cruise.

We are booked on this cruise June 2019, Amsterdam to Basel.
Question for those who have taken this cruise.
How long are the included excursions?
Is there enough time, generally speaking, for either time on your own, or to book another independent tour, with someone like Tours by Locals.
We don’t want to waste a minute😉

Okay, I got my TA to ask gently but firmly for a 6 month prior pay in full date.
He called Viking and they agreed to the 6 month rule so we are happy.
-
Is this true?
We are looking at a Viking Ocean cruise (have not cruised Viking before)
Our TA is telling us payment is due in June for a June 2019 cruise!
Experienced cruisers, is there anyway to postpone that payment?
Please clue me on to how to get Viking to loosen this requirement?
Any advice is welcome.

If you can drill down on the Day to Day Itinerary to see the excursions this is perfectly acceptable for pre planning purposes.
You can print them if you want a hard copy.
-
So now you have to wait to board the boat to get in depth description of the tours?
Do you even get it then?
Anyone who has cruised lately can answer this question.
Am I correct in saying that the package sent from Uniworld a few weeks before the cruise does not contain an in depth information?
Maybe people who have take the cruises in the past can find a way to post the old cruise companions.

Thank you for your review. Interesting concept and some good ideas that could be incorporated into other ships.
Wonder why drinks are not included as on other ships (and Egypt in 2019)

Tracie,
Like forward to your future travels. You will love retirement.
Was fun to see you with Paige (fungirl)
in Miami!

Perhaps some of these concepts will be incorporated into the more traditional cruises.
A more active choice for excursions would be welcome.

Great review.
We did Perth to Tokyo last year and then 9 land days in Japan.
Loved every day in Japan. Fascinating country

Great review of your trip and live the pictures. Thanks for taking us along.

Thanks for this.
We were on Beatrice in September 17.
She was showing her age. The upgrade looks lovely.

We are following any Egypt threads closely as we are booked on Uniworld for 2/2/19 with their pre trip to Petra, Hopefully everything is the area remains calm.
We have not purchased insurance but are strongly considering it.
Thanks to all for posting their thoughts and trip reports.

Where might I find your Castles on the Rhine review?
We are booked for next year.
-
Looking forward to your review
We booked the River Tosca for next January.

We are cruising Uniworld 6/2/19, Amsterdam to Basel.
They are all inclusive and fairly upscale.
Give them a look too.

We really enjoyed everything about Uniworld on our Danube cruise.
The cabins are pretty small, @151sf but surprisingly comfortable and well laid out.
Our next Uniworld cruises will have much larger cabins.
The AMA and Crystal ships do look lovely. I think the prices are comparable or slightly higher than Uniworld.
Don't be scared off by the decor. You hardly notice it and the service and inclusions more than make up for it.

We are LAX to Dubai NS on Emirates then on to Jordon for a pre trip to Petra.
A long trip from wherever you leave from for sure! But, we’ll worth it.
