  1. Hi, I know laundry in a suite is included, but is there any limit?  My wife and i run so it would be nice to send it out if not daily at least a couple of times during our cruise in 2 weeks. Just was wondering if there was a limit or if we just fill out the form every day and leave it for our room steward.

    thx

    regular charge.

The casino posts the monies to your cabin account and it will all be charged to your credit card in one lump sum at the end of your cruise if you choose not to pay some of it down with your winnings.

I played next to a lady that was up $1,000 and she was debating if she should cash out the $1,000 and go to guest services and pay it towards her cabin bill.

Oh thats perfect thank you.  I dont mind it going to my Creditcard as long as i dont get cash advance fees.

Also, do you know if you have to do something special to get the credit on your casino account?  We were on celebrity last year and i tried it at one of the slot machines and although it recognized my cruise card, it would not let me add money to the machine to play. Maybe i need to go to the casino cashier first?

    thx again

Yes it is and I hope that over-tipping doesn't mean that it becomes less of a choice for everyone else. There is a lot of pressure on people to tip even when they don't want to and that is made worse when others tip excessively.

Am I judging? Probably but not as you suggest. If I am judging it is not that I don't think people should tip what they think it is worth to them. That is their choice. Any judgement I make is directed squarely at people that tip for no apparent reason for things they have already paid for or tip way over the odds just because they can afford it... or just out of habit. Sorry for that but it spoils it for everyone else as these high tips come to be expected.

You could say I am also judging people that tip in advance. That is not a tip... it is a bribe and not related to anything they have done (yet!). It has the potential to mean that the service giver gives preference to the tipper at the expense of those that don't tip in advance. That is why they do it of course but IMO that isn't right IMO.

This article i came across today reminded me of this post and maybe one of the reasons Snaxmuppet is passionate about the topic.  And i do admit, when im in europe i get funny looks when i tip the way i do in the US.  However, im pretty sure the cruise ship employees, at least the ones serving the passengers, do not get a fair wage and tips are an important part of their salary. Probably not  a reason to over tip, but i would at least tip the way i do in the US.

Going to the casino and using the machines are easy - we do not play table games, so someone else will have to advise you

You sit at a machine, place your medallion next to the box and the screen will ask for your birthdate.  You then can put cash in the machine or enter the amount of money that you want to start off with.  It will charge that amount to your cabin.  Sample:  $500.  you now play the machine, the machine will keep track of your play amount and award you points.  After playing $100 you want to move, you hit cash out and WAIT for the machine to say that you are signed out and the left over money is back in your bank.   You go to the next machine and it will ask how much you want to play  -  you have $400 in your bank so you ask for $100 and you start playing again.  You never get cash out of the machine, nor a ticket.  Everything is tied into your medallion.

Always wait for the machine to verify that the money has gone back to your bank before you leave the machine.

Thank you and sounds very straight forward.  We also dont play table games so i think we are set.

Also, i read that you have to bet a min. of $3 per spin to get a point.  Does that sound accurate or has that been your experience?

    Thanks again

Yes scan your medallion every time you sit down at a new machine. The VP machine sill track your play for you. You can use cash or withdraw money to play against your onboard account but depending on your status with the cruise line and or the type of room you’re in you may get charged a convenience fee to do so. You May also  want to look into matching any existing land offers to your cruise line to see if you can get a comped cruise to start.

Thank you, great info.  Is there anything special i need to do ahead of time to my onboard account to get access to funds?  I remember trying to scan our room cards on a celebrity cruise last year and we could never get it to give us access to any money for the machines.    Full disclosure, we had no idea what we were doing and there may have been some cocktails involved, but if there is something we need to do to fund our onboard account on princess in a couple of weeks, i would like to make sure we have the cash in hand if thats what they want rather then the credit cards we have on file.

We are on Enchanted April 20th  in a S5 suite for reference.

    thanks

  6. Hi, We are new to the casino on cruise ships, but would like to get started and i think Princess will be our line of choice going forward. We have been on 30+ cruises over the years, but have had kids for the most part and no time for casinos let alone free casino cruises even if they did offer them. Fast forward to now and we are empty nesters and looking to cruise/gamble more.

So, how do we get started on Princess?  We will most likely only play slots or video poker and i understand i need to drop a couple $1k in, but i dont understand how that is tracked. Do we scan our medallions at each slot machine we play?  When we have gambled in the past, we would just put cash in the machines and know thats probably not the way to do it, or at least not if we want our gameplay tracked.

    Any info is greatly appreciated.

    thanks

For some reason these threads tend to get venomous. We sailed in a full suite over Christmas/NY and thought the Concierge was awesome. They did a lot for us (including getting us a bridge tour for my birthday). We thought of their service much like the hotel Concierge (and tipped them the same amount). At the hotel, we tipped the Concierge $100 upon arrival (as most of what she did for us was done pre stay).

On the ship, we tipped $100 at the end (along with a hand written note expressing our gratitude). We did not tip per service. Also, we made sure to call out the Concierge team on our post cruise survey.

I hope this is helpful to you.

thank you  and yes, that is the feedback i was looking for.  Very helpful and somewhat inline with our last NCL cruise with the haven concierge.

And yes, very contentious when it comes to tipping on this board.  Those that tip like myself feel strongly about tipping, those that dont feel equally the same on their position.  And the $100 you mentioned would fall in line if we decided to tip by request because i cant imagine that we would ask them for more than 4-5 things and that would be approx $20 per request.

    Thanks again for the info.

I do tip... ! I shall ignore the insult.

Perhaps you mean that I don't tip for everything regardless of whether I have received anything extra on top of what I have paid for then, had you said that, then you would be correct.

Just because someone doesn't tip for everything doesn't mean they don't tip.

My comment was more out of frustration rather than insult so i do apologize if you were insulted.  I dont care if you tip or not, i just want to hear from those that do tip, what they normally tip and when. Thats it, not a debate on if i should or should not tip, i have already determined that.

I believe the person making the post mentioned conversing with the person to get an idea of what might be appreciated.

Right, i thought i made it clear that i would be tipping and understand that some do not, which is fine, i was just trying get a ballpark of those that do tip, what the range is.  Hotel concierges are also part of the hotel services, but i still tip them when i ask them for a reservation, things to do in the area, etc. Same concept here, just trying to get a idea of what others have tipped in the past.  thx

Also, I seriously doubt that a person, when given a bottle of wine as a thank you, will say to themselves, boy do I feel de-humanised and demeaned.

What about the candy or teeshirts they also mentioned. Is that ok not to demean them also??

'Perhaps a nice bottle of wine, candy or a tee shirt .... He/she will be pleasantly surprised and grateful.'

Unless you are trying to make specialty dinner reservations (which they can help you with - especially the first night free dinner) you do not need reservations as you have reserved dining which is walk in anytime with little or no wait

Thats interesting, we didnt know that.  So there is a separate queue for suite guests?

    thx

  12. Does anyone have recommendations or history tipping the concierge on a per request bases and how much per request?  We are sailing next month on Enchanted and will most likely use them quite a bit given we are having a hard time getting dinner reservation, the spa times we want,  and we are going to ask them if they can get us a cabana which i know is a tall order but if they are successful, how much would you tip for that kind of request?

I read online that the recommendation for a regular concierge at a hotel is $5-20 depending on complexity of the request so would that apply here?

And before we go down a rabbit hole, i know some people dont use or tip the concierge, we are going to and would like to try per request this time vs. the end of the cruise tip like we usually do.

    thanks

I have never had any problems sneaking to cabin before 1 and sitting carry on out of stewards way and letting him know it's there and to be sure it's ok with them.

Thats interesting. If i remember correctly, RCL, NCL, and i think celebrity all have their hallway doors closed until around 1 so you cant even get to the cabins.  That would be wonderful if we can drop our stuff off right when we board.  Not fun having to drag your carry ons around with you if you board too early.

    Thanks

More Old Fogies and Stogies...and less Family's with kids!!!!

That is going to be awesome.  Last kid just went off to college so we are back to just the wife and I on vacation. We use to cruise Princess all the time before kids, but that was also before carnival bought them so it will be interesting to see if its anything like we remember.

us retiree boomers are paying up and spending the kids inheritance 😂

I think there some real truth to that.  Im a GenXer so still working and take a couple vacations a year, but my sisters are 10-15 years older than me and retired so right in that boomer age range and the amount they spend on vacations is staggering, at least in my view.

I understand this. I don't eat meat at home, but I will have something like a beef filet or a lobster on a cruise. I hope I can look at the Vegan menu in the MDR though, as I know I would prefer veg/vegan meals most meals. The vegan menu shown on this thread is very appealing. Fingers crossed it's on the Enchanted Princess when we sail in August.

    Lorie

We'll let you know, we are on enchanted next month and plan on at least looking at the Vegan menu if they allow it.  Our plan is not to scrutinize everything for dairy, eggs, etc.  However, were not going to eat a big steak, probably go into meat shock...  But we will eat some seafood.  Im sure the  buffet will have vegan options which will keep us on track for at least some of the meals during the day.

While one can dress more casually at dinner these days one will never be "overdressed" if you dress up on a Formal Night. If you like to dress up feel free to do so.

That may be the case for a cruise out of japan, but i wouldnt recommend it for a regular 7 night cruise out of the US.  Im pretty sure if you walk into the main dining room in a tux or formal dress on that type of cruise you will feel overdressed.  I havent seen a tux on a 7 day carrib cruise in years.  I did it a couple of times back in the 90s, but wouldnt even consider it today.
