  1. Port Canaveral as a profit center in Brevard County is making money and will continue to grow and make more money.

I live close to the Port and am eagerly waiting for RCI to acknowledge their plans for the new terminal. Since NCL Breakaway was here recently only the Oasis Class ships are bigger relative to using the existing facilities. Quantum is very close in size to Breakaway and slightly larger than Freedom. Time will tell.

I'm here as well. I'm no mariner engineer but the turning basin at PC might fit an Oasis class ship but it is going to be super tight. I don't expect an Oasis class ship here unless the channel and turning basin are much bigger. Building a new terminal is not going to bring the largest class of cruise ship to this port.

  2. My wife had the same problem on Jewel when the sea got rough. The only thing we could come up with was that the bed was 90 degrees off from a side facing balcony, so we were rocking out of sync.

That is exactly why my wife thinks she was seasick in the cabin. It was a bit rough but I am just not prone to seasickness. We rescued some refugees on this cruise and the Coast Guard picked them up. I'm watching in amazement as the coasties stand sure-footed on a rolling deck and my wife is ready to give back lunch. Sadly we could have had this cabin again in Dec but not with the reaction my wife had. I LOVED the hammock (which I strung) on the balcony!

  3. Hope this answers some questions:

    I'm in 7712 on Sept 22 sailing.

We were in 7408 December 2011 and I absolutely loved it, my wife who is subject to some sea sickness could usually not stand to be in the cabin. I am almost completely unaffected by the ocean's motion but she said it was rough. something about cabin alignment and the motion was just not right for her. After many cruises it was the only real time she has experienced the sea sickness over many days. Thankfully it was never full-blown sickness but this cabin was not right for her. Too bad as I loved it!

The room is a standard or maybe slightly bigger balcony cabin but the balcony is HUGE!!! I mean HUGE! We had about 20 people on it during a cabin crawl. I brought and hung a hammock from the ceiling of the balcony. So a hammock that could swing at least 180 degrees, 2 chairs, 2 loungers, and a table. HUGE!

Silence outside the cabin, some noise from family suite on 6th or 5th deck with kids but not a bother, crew smoking on 5th deck was occasional problem, and maybe trash incineration but not sure what it was made loud noise and stinky on rare occasion.

  4. My girlfriend and I got off the Freedom on Sunday and we had spent the week in the Ben and Jerry's "Sweet" (Stateroom 6305). Overall the week was great, and I wanted to provide info for anyone who might be interested in getting this stateroom.

    • Concierge Lounge access is still a perk of this stateroom
    • The daily treat from Ben and Jerry's is a small cup or sugar cone of ice cream (about $2.50 - $3.00 each), and the treat benefit must be used each day of the cruise; you can't save them up.
    • The room is next to a service door that also serves as the entrance to the sky bridge on the promenade. You can and will hear clicking from the door closing, but it's not loud. We had no problem sleeping.
    • Though you can watch parades from your promenade window, the sound is awfully muffled. With the sky bridge and the Ben and Jerry's shop, your view of the promenade is pretty limited.

If anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. For us (couple in our 20s), we enjoyed it thoroughly and would book the room again in a heartbeat. :D

I’m glad your experience was opposite ours. We had the “sweet” on Indy and it was a terrible experience. You can find my review in the review section. About the only positives from this cruise were the free ice cream treats (we could pick whatever we wanted) and the knowledge to never book that cabin or one near a service area again.

  5. We were at Playa Uvas on November 24th. We got off the Freedom and walked to the taxi area. It was $3 one way. A very short 10 minutes ride and we were there. There were 14 of us and Carmen quickly had us all checked in by 9:30 – 9:45. We were one of the first groups there. Raul was our waiter and he did a fair job taking care of us. I asked about the snorkeling because 6 of us were snorkeling and the rest were staying at the beach. I was told our snorkel leader would be there soon. More people show, more time goes by. Keep in my mind, no alcohol until snorkeling is done which makes perfect sense and the included lunch doesn’t get served until everyone has done their snorkeling or kayaking for your party. Now people are taking off in the clear kayaks. We’re still waiting. Kayaks come back so we think it is time to snorkel. A group of about 6 – 8 snorkelers start their trek down the beach. We’re still waiting. Finally we leave around 11:45 in a group of at least 25 people. Snorkeling was fun. I’m not sure if this is correct or not but the water is so salty that it makes people extra buoyant. I didn’t wear a vest and I never had to try to float. That was nice. We finish snorkeling around 1 and it’s time to eat. Fish or fajitas. I had fajitas and they were great. I tried the beef and chicken and both tasted good. Open bar was okay. It’s beer or frozen drinks they pour some rum into. I had 5-6 daiquiris or pina coladas.

I liked Playa Uvas and if we ever go back I won’t try to snorkel. We were mainly looking for a beach area with a bar and thought we found exactly what we wanted until the no drinking until done snorkeling happened. That policy does make sense but it was almost 1 by the time we got done snorkeling. Everyone was very friendly. Raul could have been better. I waited for him to come get my next drink order three times only to have to go get it myself. I also think we paid too much for what we actually received.

Would I go back? Yes I would but I think next time we’re in Cozumel we’ll go a bit further up the road and try Paradise Beach. Going to the beach is not a big deal to us. We live 20 minutes from Cocoa Beach.

  6. Comment on post: Not funny-Sorry. That is a great upgrade. I was wondering if they didn't fill that cabin what they would do. I was told sometimes there is a butler with it. That would be great to happen at least once. It would be great if you had a big group of people on the cruise with you. At least my age group it would be fun. If they were in their 20s it might be different. I remember some pretty wild parties at that age. I wouldn't want to pay for damages. I got an upgrade but haven't gone on it yet from an A2 to A6. It could change up until the time we get in the room. We'll see.

Anyways, The stories were great and I wish I had something funny to contribute. I'm not sure what story was the funniest as plenty were found in the thread.

    Happy Cruising!
