Thanks for sharing this! I must admit, I haven't tried this store. I should! Glad that you go for hawker food. I think that is one of best-kept secrets. Not so much the high-end restaurants (which are pretty much available all over the world), but there is nothing like our hawker centers and food courts.

  2. Oh Dear .... your food vids and we are 9 months away from our next three week food safari! Normally we have two or three three week visits per year but we have cut it to one!

I know you use to post on the thread I started "elswehere" that "Singapore is more than a stopover ...." and it is lovely to see you are here. Singapore is so under-appreciated by most and your work here is fantastic. :)

    Thanks Jeff.

Since I like to make videos as a hobby, I decided why not do some work to profile my little country And I love to cruise too, so I' always lurking around cruise critic.

  3. We visit Malta again, in Dec 2017, this time while sailing on the MSC Meraviglia!

This time round, we also did the same. Went onshore, got a taxi to take us around. But we didn't do the Blue Grotto, since we had already done that back in 2015. We visited the Mosta Rotunda, and also the Malta Aviation Museum (a rather rustic place). Spent some time in Mdina, and also in Valetta.

The following videos show you what we did.

    Waking around Mdina, Malta.

Malta Aviation Museum - Cockpit BAC One-Eleven

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota (Malta Aviation Museum)

de Havilland Vampire T.11 Malta Aviation Museum Royal Air Force

Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane Malta Aviation Museum

    Driving to Mdina, Malta

    Mosta Rotunda, Malta

Valletta Malta Waterfront Restaurants on a Sunny Day Dec 2017

It was another fun visit. Enjoy!

  4. Yes, we used Uber most of the time. Or MRT. (but our visit was before Grab existed or was widespread, I think - I don't use Uber any more....)

Uber just sold their South East Asia operations to Grab.

  5. 3 new food-related videos.

First, a wonderful dinner at St Regis Hotel Ballroom. Attended a banquet, and the food was awesome!

    The menu served:

    1. Trio of appetizers (Fried Prawn, Crispy Pork, Drunken Chicken)

    2. Double-Boiled Superior Soup with Fish Maw, American Top Shell, Dried Scallop, Bamboo Pith and Cordycep Flower

    3. Braised Baby Abalone with Flower Mushroom and Broccoli

    4. Oven-Baked Cod Fillet with Japanese Miso Sauce

    5. Oven-Bake Kurobuta Pork with Black Pepper Sauce

    6. Stir-Fried Mee Sua with Seafood in XO Sauce

    7. Chilled Lemongrass Jelly with Aloe Vera and Yuzu Sherbet

Second, a delightful Dim Sum set lunch at the Mitzo restaurant, at Grand Park Orchard Hotel.

Finally, we head over to Pasir Panjang Food Center, which is right beside the Pasir Panjang MRT station. This is a typical Singapore Hawker Center, selling cheap and good food. But tonight, I check out a new store, selling beer! I chose the

Stone Brewing USA IPA Pale Ale Beer, $10 for 475ml (1 pint). It was good and went super well with the Thai food.

    Enjoy Singapore!

  6. We got off the ship, checked into Holiday Inn express at 9am( no extra charge) , on the day we checked out, we left our baggage in their secure area and used the families til 7pm free of charge. Then took the shuttle to airport, $9 each, less than 1/2 price of the taxi.

Great! Which holiday inn express was this?

  7. Thank you so much for posting these videos! We are going to the Mutianyu section at the beginning of April. It looks amazing. I want to go on the tobaggan although I’m a little scared!

It is really quite safe. Somehow, you can't go that fast. And along the way, I noticed staff stationed at most sharp corners. I assume they are there to help, if for some reason, you get stuck.

  8. But really nothing is hard to reach in Singapore by taxi, so I wouldn't rate "hotel near port" high when looking at options. Perhaps I should have started there.....

You make a good point. Taxis are inexpensive (by Western standards) so feel free to enjoy them while in Singapore!

These days, more and more locals use Grab instead of the public taxis. So the demand for public taxis has fallen, for sure.

  9. We stayed at the HK Airport Regal Hotel for one night back in 2015. It definitely wasn't cheap, but we needed a place to sleep 4 of us as our scheduled flight out of HK was very early. Here is the video of our room, as well as how to walk from the Airport Terminal to the Hotel.

  10. ......and the Tiger Aunties ..... ;)

    Heheh. Tiger Beer promoters.

Since we are on the topic of Tiger Beer, here are 2 TIger Beer videos I made before.

First, the low-calorie version. Bought this at the supermarket. Not sure if they sell this at the coffeeshops or hawker centers.

Next, Tiger White. Tiger's version of a wheat beer.

  11. Thanks for the ongoing vids...gives us lots of ideas for our upcoming trip. Regarding the Bumboat cruise, can you get a ticket at any of the quays or have you got to get it at Clarke Quay? Esplanade jetty would, I think, be easier for us as we are staying at the Fairmont, so a shorter walk.

    Thanks

    Simon

That's a good question. Frankly, I don't know the answer. There may be more than 1 company operating the cruise as well.

  12. This is the season where Secondary Schools conduct open houses, to attract a new batch of students. Education can get quite crazy in Singapore. The kids do the PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination) at 12 years old (after 6 years in Primary School) and their PSLE scores will determine which Secondary school they can get into. The top schools in the country are highly coveted.

Today, we visit Nanyang Girls High School. Founded 101 years ago, this school, rich in Chinese traditions, is the top Girls' Secondary School in Singapore, going by the PSLE cut-off point. It has a very nice campus along Bukit Timah Road.

    YAYZ0pDjdmk

The 'Brother school' of Nanyang is called Hwa Chong Institution, just across the road. The High School section, is for Boys only. We visited their Open House last year. The Chinese High School (Hwa Chong) was founded by Mr Tan Kah Kee, 陈嘉庚.

Tan Kah Kee (21 October 1874 – 12 August 1961)He was a very successful Chinese Businessman, and philantrophist. He is also the founder of Xiamen University.

    Some video clips.

Another one of Chinese High boys showing off their drumming skills.

Ironically, when Tan Kah Kee tried to return to Singapore in 1950 after World War II, the British Colonial authorities denied him entry, fearing that he would bring the Communist influence into Singapore and South East Asia.

  13. A second video related to the Singapore River. This time I am at Clark Quay, at the boarding area for the river cruise. Spotted a group of tourists (I think German) waiting for their ride. It was an awesome day to cruise the Singapore River!

  14. Now, I behave like a tourist in this video. Start off with a gorgeous view of City Hall (check out the colonial architecture); it used to be the Municipal building, built by the London construction firm Perry and Co. (Overseas) Ltd, and completed in 1929. It is now a National monument. When I turn around, in the distance you can see the Marina Bay Sands. And I walk to the Singapore River, and you see a monument of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, who founded modern Singapore in 1819. Check out the Singapore River, and the tall skyscrapers of our Central Business District. Isn't it cool?

  15. Having lunch at this eatery called Qiji. This branch was at Harbourfront. Tried their new Chicken Char Siew Nasi Lemak. Nasi Lemak is a Malay fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. This dish is commonly found in Malaysia and Singapore. This portion for SGD $5.50.

If you are in the Orchard Road area, this is a more upmarket shopping center called Paragon. The building is rather old, but you will find many branded boutiques here. Paragon shopping center is right opposite Takashimaya.

If you are at Orchard MRT station, there is this huge mall called Orchard ION built on top of the station. At the basement level, where there is plenty of food, there is also this Food Opera Food Court. Prices are a bit higher than usual for a food court, but still very crowded, especially during lunch time.

This store selling Nasi Lemak is also at Orchard ION, basement. Same level as the food court in the above video. Good to eat! This particular Nasi Lemak store is famous because when the Bruneian Royalty comes to town, they apparently will eat from this store too.
