Your balcony.
The ship will drive up a straight, do a pirouette at the end so everyone can see the full view, then go back down the same way it came.
So, you'll get to see everything no matter where you are, and in your balcony you won't have to deal with the other people crowding and jockying for space.

A man named Richard Dietrich has a blog about working on cruise ships and living in Panama. Take the space out of his name and add .com after it and you should be able to read what he has posted.
Thanks!

On a related note, I heard somewhere that forward facing rooms can't use their balcony at night because the room light ruins the night lookout's night vision.
Any truth to this? For these rooms at least?

Another vote for glacier bay.

They must not go on CC because I don't think you would have thrown your in-laws under the bus like that:D.
My FIL longs for the days of smoke signaling.
My SIL is young and savvy to The Internet, but would just remind me it's her husband's fault. :-)

I'm amazed. Never seen that... Been in the Ruby twice. I guess I have to get out more.

Stupid question:
Horse racing onboard?
More details, please!

What is wrong with waiting with your friends and family and boarding together?
My in-laws have a tradition of showing up late to things.
If I don't have any bags I can help with theirs.
I'm paying for everyone's room, and don't want to go through all three check-in processes at the same time.
We can show them to their rooms without worrying about ours.

If you don't mind asking her a couple of questions:
1:What kind of room do they provide?
2: can she upgrade on her own dime?
3: does she choose her cruises, or does the cruise line assign her?

Would you need to go through US Customs to get off the ship? Do they have a route that lets you by pass customs?

Interesting...

Good question, but not my titanium knee. Perhaps the "boning?" I haven't figured it out.
I do know that my iPad case could, and has, done it, but that is easy to understand. The Reception on my last three HAL ships had no guesses.

Crazy idea, but if your "hiding place" is made of synthetic fabric it might generate a lot of static rubbing against the card...
Does the problem occur if your wear cotton?

I love eating almost everything listed in this thread.

Lots of Indian kitchen staff, and the mixture of vegetables, meat, and sauce means the dish will sit for a long time but remain serviceable without drying out our getting soggy like Italian food.

There are two great things in Ensenada: Birriria Guadalajara, and an excellent tequila shop I cannot remember the name of that I always pass while walking back to the ship from the Birriria.

For what it's worth, I always make dinner reservations for 8:30, and I only very rarely find they are taken. If you are a little open as to the time you eat, you'll likely get better service, and won't have to race 3000 other people for the phones.

Security shouldn't be bad, all I'll have is my passport and cruise card the second time. :-)
My wife's family is the type to freeze like a deer in the headlights... I think the more hands on we are for their first time, the better...

Try the balcony dining... We loved it

I Googled and came up with this Cruise Critic article: http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=1176
Thanks!

I'm an electrical engineer and comp sci lecturer (no PhD). My lectures would be more general interest sciencey/history type stuff... Kind of a poor man's Cosmos. Not relevant to any particular line, but no less relevant than the guy I saw on an Alaskan cruise who basically showed old pictures and asked "remember this?" for an hour a day.
Mostly, I'm looking for advice on the application process.

I don't think you will have any luck with magnets on the fiberglass.
Challenge accepted. :-)
My next cruise is later this year... I'll have to experiment a bit...
-
I'm taking some first time cruisers with me next year. I'd like to check in early, then come back and meet them... so I can play host while helping then get settled.
Are you allowed back onshore on embarcation day?

Just last night I suggested my wife and I should try a celebrity cruise. The ships seem nice, the rooms look larger in the photos, and the loyalty club is tractable, with decent benefits. Plus, were aren't into water slides and theme park nonsense.

I've had the idea floating around in my head to apply to princess as an enrichment lecture presenter, use my skills as a university lecturer to actually do something productive. :-)
Anyone here do this? I've got a few questions that aren't answered by the Princess website.

Correct. You are basically buying yourself a gift card.
