Question about those heavy duty magnets... do you not worry that they will mess up your electronics room cards if you accidentally get them too close?

Just don't keep the magnets in your pocket. :-)

The walls in the bathroom are fiberglass.

In mini suites and suites, they might be tile.

Behind the fiberglass would, I assume, be the same steel as behind every other wall panel. If not, there's always the walls of the room proper.

I feel like you have to have more money than brains to pay $8.95 xtra for a hamburger when you can go to any of over 1000 5 guys and for around $9.00 have a burger and fries. Doesn't seem like a worthy investment aboard ship but mostly frivolous.:eek:

Why would you go to 5 Guys when McDonalds will sell you a burger for $1.00?

Oh, wait... suddenly you mean to tell me that different burgers are, in fact, not exactly the same? That maybe they cost different amounts, and that might be ok?

We're all lined up for an excursion in Mazatlan.

The Lab sits down next to an elderly lady's bag.

The teenager next to me gasps "The old lady brought weed! She's bad-ass!"

Turns out, it was an apple.

I have a fairly mild crustacean allergy, and I've cruised more than a few times.

I can tell you that the staff will do their best to help you. However, they are not doctors or, even necessarily 100% experts in every aspect of the meal.

Think of it like a boxing match. The ref will help to the best of his ability, but protect yourself at all times.

on my last cruise The Salty Dog was rarely ever serving more than 2 tables, and often both would be ship's officers.

I thought the food was among the best (certainly the most... original? experimental?) I've ever had at sea, and the drinks were a nice change from the somewhat staid cocktails often served onboard.

I love the place. The fact that you can also watch the guitarist from your table just ices the cake.

Truly, the furniture is the only part I did not like, and I found even that tolerable.

my last cruise (San Pedro, CA, 100% occupancy) i showed up at about 2:00pm, and was on board the ship as fast as I could walk. never had to wait behind more than 1 other person at any stop along the way.

If you don't mind missing out on that one moderate-quality, rushed buffet lunch, there's something to be said for showing up just an hour later than everyone else. :-)

When you had to cling to a scrap of wood in freezing water because the hull steel was unexpectedly brittle and then have to drop a priceless diamond in the water 80 years later.

These days, the cruise line is all: "Hey! There's room on that wood panel for two people!"

Just no sense of service, I tell you...

As a kid I'd see, on Love Boat reruns, people would shoot Trap off the back of the ship.

My first time onboard, I ran around the whole ship looking for the shotgun station. :-(

I'm a little amazed at the number of people annoyed by door-decorating... it's not like the ship's doors are so beautiful or pleasant to look at... I'm not a door-decorator, myself, but there's more important things to get annoyed at in the world...

In my estimation, there's maybe 10 people on each floor (on average) who will decorate their door, and those who do seem to really decorate their door. I see very few people with small or modest decorations, all or nothing.

One trip, someone's mardi-gras mask was quickly replaced with a sign that read "please return my mardi gras mask!", and the mask was returned by the end of the cruise. :-)

anyway, the $8 package was advertised onboard. I asked about the $5 package, and the guy sold it to me, but he had to go on a 5 minute quest to find the right stickers.

I set up my sister-in-law with a mini-suite on an upcoming cruise, as her 4-year-old child counts as a third passenger, and I wanted to make sure she ended up in a room that can be set up for a queen bed for the two adults.

Aside from my nerves over what the room will look like (never seen a 3-person-room before), it brought up an interesting question:

There must be an age below which the child doesn't count as a passenger. I can't find it documented on Princess's site. Anyone know what it is?

For what it's worth, the Sabatini's waiters I got into a discussion on the topic with said they would rather get those "consumate host" cards than an additional tip.

The tip is pooled, so they only get a small amount of it, but the host cards are the path to additional time off-ship (according to the discussion, anyway.)

I was on an alaskan tour (booked through Princess) that arrived back at the ship AN HOUR AFTER the designated departure time.

Not only did the ship wait, the ship had officers waiting to personally escort us from the bus to the gangway through security.

I cannot say, at what point, the ship will leave a passenger who isn't on a company-booked-tour, but I understand it's a possibility.

I just booked my wife's family (including us, naturally) on the 5-night LA-to-Cabo round trip. The ship overnights in Cabo. This is our first overnight stay, and the tenders add an interesting wrinkle.

Are tenders available at, say, 2:00am? 4:00am? Is there a deadline to get on or off the ship for the night?

Cruise credits are like vacation days at work: I'm always amazed by people who have extra and don't know it...

I'm always the guy hanging outside the cruise terminal, asking if anyone can spare a cruise credit or two...

FWIW, I just exited the Grand in San Francisco after 15 days onboard. No power or mechanical failures that I am aware of in that time...

I tried searching the forum, but all I got was discussion about the Royal.

The Grand blocked passengers from the upper half of the central stairway. Does the Crown do the same?

We did get a few pre-poured, but not all of them. There was also no enthusiasm when they did shake them table side.

 

That's not always a bad thing. If they shake the drink table side there no telling how long it spent melting the ice and getting diluted...

Just to be clear, the past before me made the reference. I'm not calling for large tables at meals... Can't stand them... I eat with my wife and nobody else...

I'm intrigued to find out what makes a table for two interesting...
