Seeing as I'm unlikely to see another dime from them at this point: Berkshire Hathaway.

The caveat here is maybe, MAYBE they offer other policies with different coverages and we just "got a Whammy" with the way that one was structured; but for the Love of Stitch I made VERY sure on the upcoming trip that the travel insurance covered "repairing what the trip broke."

The injury was obviously painful but obviously not life threatening, so while there was zero chance of an evacuation from the ship - it actually WOULD have been covered.

I didn't even realize they sold trip insurance.  I will definitely be looking to make sure the insurance I choose in the future covers after also.  I hope DW is back to normal!

I get to speak up on this one here.  Get it.  Always.  But keep an eye open.

Last trip, DW fell on day 5 of 7 and broke her arm badly enough to need a shoulder replacement.  Insurance we had covered through the last day of the trip.  So while we were several thousand out-of-pocket for an injury that happened on the trip, because they didn't schedule surgery for the day we arrived back on shore we didn't get back any of it.  Best they covered was the ER visit, where they said "have some pain meds and go see an Orthopedic specialist, we're not gonna touch that thing."

Even the TA's not using them anymore.

That is horrible!  Do you mind/can you say what company that was?

  3. I know it's a long shot, but has anyone been in aft staterooms 12960 or 9978? Wondering about bed location for both (by the balcony vs closet) and for deck 9 was there any noise from the deck below? First time I'm considering a room without rooms below it, but the balcony size is trying to draw me in.... TIA

  4. You can take the ferry over.  We signed up on the ship, it was $30pp round trip.  When we signed up the times available were 9:30am and 12:00pm.  We chose the 9:30.  Not sure if the other times were sold out or they just reserved them for walk up traffic at the ferry dock.  When we got the the ferry location on HC we were given a wrist band.  It had our 9:30am time and then 3:30pm for the return ferry.  They said they figure most people that take the earliest ferry have an excursion planned so they give the last ferry return time.  Otherwise your ferry return is scheduled for I believe 3 hours after your ferry over (ex. 10am over 1pm back).  If you do not make your return ferry scheduled you have to wait until there is room on the next ferry to come back.  I have seen where someone said they had to wait a couple of hours because the ferries were full with people with the correct time.  Just an FYI.

Once there we rented a golf cart and just drove around exploring on our own.  Beautiful island and the resorts we stopped at were happy to let us look around (spotting places for a return vacation).  I highly recommend going over.  We had lunch at the Barefoot Beach Resort and it was very good, large portions and a gorgeous view.  You can also rent golf carts from them, we did, but would probably rent from somewhere else next time because it didn't go very fast.  There is a company renting right when you get off the ferry and at least one other walking towards town.

If you have been to HC on NCC, I wanted some clarification please.

are there any options to leave the private island by ferry to experience Belizian cultural activities or is it like Half Moon Cay ......a beach stop and no options for participating in excursions.

  6. I was on the Getaway last week and we took the ferry.  I booked it from our room, I think the 1st sea day.  It showed 2 times, 9am and noon, but only the 9am was available when I booked.  It was $30 RT per person.  We had friends that booked on embarkation day.  When we got to the dock for the ferry we were given a wrist band and it said 9am - 3pm.  They said if people were booking the first ferry that usually meant they had an excursion so they were given the latest return time.  Good luck!

So there is a beach right at the port?  If so, if I want to just hang at the beach, I can stay here and save myself cab fare?

Do you have to pay for beach chairs and umbrellas?

Harvest Caye is NCL's private island.  There are no taxi's, there is no where to go.  There is a pool and a beach plus some other things.  They have chairs for free, you can also rent clamshells from what I have read.  The food and beverages are extra on the island.  There are some excursions offered or you can take the ferry (I think it's $20 round trip) over to Placencia to see mainland Belize.

  8. Not sure about the ship changing time, but generally you have to be on board half an hour prior to sail away.  So in this case it should be 4:30.  Maybe try searching for the dailies for your cruise ship/itinerary to see about the time change?

Thanks for the info, I was thinking the same thing about the view. can you still fit 2 chairs and a small table on the balcony?

Yes!  We spent a lot of time on our balcony while sailing.  I don't think you'll be disappointed.  Just go into it knowing it's not huge, but still comfortable.  :)

I booked with NCL and had two wonderful days, different cruises:

    1. Adventure Day: ATV ride in the jungle was amazing, like literally screaming I had so much fun
    2. Salsa & Salsa: make salsa (eat it with chips), salsa dancing(lessons) and stroll across the narrow street to the beach, loved the variety; they also provided tequila tasting and sales. Had time to do a little shopping at vendor stands on the street.

Oohhh, did you need long pants for the ATV ride?  I see they are recommended, but then it said we had to have closed toe shoes for the one in Freeport and we didn't.  Also, did you just take a taxi back from the beach when you were ready or was there a set time for transportation back to the ship after the beach portion?  Thanks!

  11. Hoping maybe someone can answer a couple questions I have about this excursion.  We have it booked for our cruise.  The description says long pants recommended.  Does anyone know if they are really necessary?  The pictures for the excursion show people in shorts.  The ATV tour we did in Freeport said closed toe shoes, but we didn't even need those.

Also, can you just take a provided taxi back to the ship from the beach club?  I thought I saw that somewhere, but now I can't find it.  In Freeport, we didn't want to stay at the beach because of the weather and had to pay for our own taxi back to the ship since we didn't want to stay there.

Thanks for any help you can give!

  12. For those that have done this, is there anywhere to lock up valuables while snorkeling?  I would like to take my good camera for the island tour and the time at the hang out, but not sure I want to take it on the snorkel boat.

Thanks everyone for their reviews, we are really looking forward to this excursion!

  13. From what I have read, if you take the ferry over you have a return time 3 hours later.  If you miss that time you have to wait until there is room available on another ferry.  I'm not sure I'd want to chance this.  I've heard some say that they had to wait over an hour to get on a ferry, some say they were able to get right on.  All aboard would be 4:30 at the latest so you could be pushing it.  Hopefully someone will respond if they were successful doing this.

  14. Hi there,

When you say Coke products on HC, can one infer from this that they have Pepsi products onboard Norwegian ships? I ask because I’m married to such a Pepsi man that bringing Coke products in our house is grounds for divorce. 🤣

    Thanks!

LOL Yes, NCL has Pepsi products on their ships. :D

  15. I knew exactly what cruise I was planning on taking next when we were on our last cruise in March. We were offered a cabin upgrade to book right then, but since we were booking an aft room that didn't apply to us. That was the only perk to booking on board at that time. We still booked and then just transferred to a TA when we got home.

I recommend, if you know what cruise you want, knowing what the current promos and price is if you were to book on your own and then see what you can get. If you aren't comfortable with the deal they offer then just do the certificates and book later.

  16. I booked with Johnson's directly through FB messenger. They replied to my questions pretty quickly and were very helpful. They offered 4 different tours ranging in price from $30-$55 per person. The shortest was 1.5 - 2 hours and the longest tour is 5 hours. They also offer the extremely extreme zip tour through Pirates of the Caribbean Zip for $45 per person and says it takes an hour and can be added to any of their tours. Hope this helps!
