  1. From what I've seen I don't think they have clamshells? I'm sure someone can say for sure. They do have some umbrellas though. They have the pool cabanas and the beach villas to rent though. For our cruise in March the beach villas are $699 and the pool cabana is $349.

  2. While I agree both Bodden and Rony offer a fabulous day. I also understand Daniel's will provide transport and they started doing snorkel tours. So, if one wishes only to go to Daniel's place...no need to pay Bodden as well.

That is true. If you message them through FB they will tell you what options/tours they have available. We are booked through them for an island tour, snorkeling, beach and time with the animals. Have seen good reviews.

  3. We actually did just this in Freeport. The last stop was at a beach, but it was so windy and rain was moving in so there was nothing to do. We were told they couldn't take us back to the ship so we had the people at the restaurant call us a cab. Asked some others in our group to let them know when they were picked up since we were dropped off. Ended up sharing the cab back because another couple felt the same way. This was a reasonable distance to the port of course.

  4. The first article I read on this, that I saw on Facebook, said that the line operators did not have walkie-talkies to communicate. I think it also said that assisting the couple took longer than normal because of clouds/weather? So very sad no matter why it occured.

  5. I called before I got married because we were booking a cruise and wanted to know how best to handle it. I was told that it is much easier if you are not the primary guest on the booking. Once I changed my name over and everything I contacted NCL and they changed my Latitudes account and booking. It was very easy. As Frick_&_Frack suggested you may want to call just to be sure though.

  6. The first 2 ferry times, 8:45 & 9:45a, were sold on the ship. Later times were sold on Harvest Caye, at the excursion port desk. I believe they run on the hour? Last one back from Placencia to HC was 3p.

    Thank you!

  7. Can't help yet, going in Feb, also don't want beach/pool time so will be exploring other options. When are you going?

We are going to Belize City & then HC, will probably do private tour from Belize City & then stay on the ship for HC

Going in March on the Getaway. We don't do Belize City. :(:(:(

I’ve been looking over excursions there also, and reading the reviews on the NCL site. The ferry runs all day so you can stay and explore Placentia after your tour.

The pool at HC is no comparison to a ships pool. I’m leaning towards just taking the snorkel boat out to the reef and hang at the pool/beach. The reviews of excursions are mixed, long rides out to the sites, apparently HC is remote.

I've read that you are given a return time of 3 hours if you just buy ferry tickets on your own. I've seen you can take a later one if there is room, but if there isn't????? I saw one post about someone not taking their scheduled ferry back and having to wait 4 hours to get on one.

I'm thinking we may just do the ferry, rent a golf cart, do some exploring and then spend the rest of the day at the beach/pool. At least we can check out part of Belize.

  8. HC is very nice. As clean & colorful as can be but 'commercial'.

We wanted to see something that was real Belize, knowing we had limited time.

Everyone's tastes are different but the 3 of us that went to Placencia all said it was the highlight of the week.

The round trip ticket gives a 3 hour window to guarantee you are on the return boat to HC. If you miss your scheduled return trip, you can get on the next one, as long as there is room.

Being that it is off season, I would ask at the HC ticket window how many people are scheduled for each time & then decide then if it seems OK to hang longer. I would expect you could stay longer.

We missed our return but caught the last one off Placencia, & there was room for 10 more.

Thank you. I also want to see some of Belize, not just a private island. :) I've heard the island is beautifl and figure we can always enjoy it some after we get back from Placencia.

Do you recall seeing a schedule for the ferry? Some friends are taking the snorkel trip in the morning and were wondering if they could do head over after.

  9. If you are not into the beach then I highly recommend the pool at Harvest Caye. It is huge!

Sorry, should have said we don't really want a beach/pool day. Seems a shame to go to Belize and spend the day at the pool, besides we will have 2 sea days so lots of pool time. :)

  10. Lord help me, I can't seem to get an answer for this. LOL I asked on the NCL board and a couple of FB pages to no avail. Hopefully someone here can help me.

Question for anyone that has done an excursion through NCL for Harvest Caye: when your excursion was over did you have to get right on the ferry back to HC or were you able to explore Placencia a bit?

Also, has anyone done the Monkey River Eco Tour? Do you get on the boat for the tour straight from HC or do you have to go to the mainland first? Don't really want a beach day and trying to figure out what to do. Thanks!

  12. Have you contacted them directly through Facebook? They offer a few different tours. I sent them a private message and they responded pretty quickly with their tour options.

  13. Okay, so I booked onboard with Cruise Next, and I have absolutely no idea what my additional perk was. Didn't think about it until afterwards. Maybe my price was slightly reduced? Anyway, no cabin upgrade, as we booked our dream cabin for my DD's graduation present. Garden Villa on Dawn to Bermuda....can hardly wait!

We did CN and booked while on board the Sun in March. Since we booked an aft room there was no additional perk so I assume there probably wasn't for you either if you couldn't be upgraded within your booking.

  14. Basically, I let it sit there for a couple of reasons. One being that I just moved and was swamped with other stuff, and every time I remembered to call, the call center was closed and I couldn't talk to someone to cancel it. Two, I figured a few days to see what happened wouldn't hurt anything, since the next bump to a bigger penalty was at 90 days.

I called in this morning and cancelled formally. Basically, since I had only applied the cruise certificate as the deposit, I just forfeited that amount. And I was okay with losing it, since I probably wasn't going to be able to use it before it expired. I haven't cruised with NCL for 4 years, and I've already had one certificate expire.

For future reference you could have sold the Cruise Next certificates because they are transferable. That way you wouldn't have been out the money.

  15. Thank you everyone for your assistance. After thinking and talking about it, my wife and I have picked Alaska. Now it's a choice: the cruise that leaves and comes back to Seattle or the cruise that goes from Vancouver to Seward.

As for that it's all about ports/times and also if you want to see any of the rest of AK. I would highly recommend seeing Denali if you have the time to do a land portion. We did Anchorage, Alyeska (resort is pretty, wouldn't need to stay there again though), and Talkeetna. Loved it in Talkeetna and wish we had had more time there and at Denali. The glass dome train was really neat too.

  16. I did Alaska with Celebrity, but NCL for Hawaii. When asked I always say I would do AK again before Hawaii. Don't get me wrong, Hawaii is beautiful and I loved it, but I can go to a beach lots of places. To me AK was one of a kind.

That being said.... you can't go wrong with either!

  17. I just did this not long ago, it was very easy.

I will say when I inquired I was told it is easier if the person with the name change is not the primary person on the booking, so when I booked I made my now husband the primary. Hopefully it all works out well for you and congratulations!

  18. Have spent a lot of time in Freeport both as a cruise stop and during a land vacation. With kids. We all enjoyed the dolphin encounter as well as fishing expeditions. The beach at Taino Beach is my favorite. Rented jet skis there.

Who did you use for fishing expeditions? I am trying to find something like that for our cruise in March. TIA

  19. We have cruised many times on NCL. They hand out boarding cards based on how early you get to the port. They don't usually start boarding until 11 - 11:30. Can't usually get into your cabins until 1 - 2. So there is really no hurry to get to the port.

Thank you for that insight. I've always just gotten to the port, gone straight to check in and on to the ship. Never had to wait long for rooms to be ready either.
