Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. On the Viking cruise that ended Saturday 08/13, they arranged transportation for 8 of us that needed to end in Regensburg like the original disembarkation port (instead of Passau). The driver took two of us to a rental car place and the other six of us to the train station by 10:30am.
  2. 3 full buses left Passau this morning at 8am. We arrived in Regensburg just before 9:45am and we did a 90 minute walking tour. Return buses at 12:15pm and at 3:30 for those that wanted to stay longer. The blogger was on my bus and I think she's more about the sights and scenes of the places she goes to versus logistics and/or talking about problems she's encountered. At any rate, Viking seems to know what they are doing and though I'd rather disembark in Regensburg, I'm glad we made it this far all in the same ship.
  3. Update: Viking Egil, left Budapest this past Saturday, destined for Regensburg for Friday. Just learned on board this evening that we will get into Passau tomorrow Thursday and stay there Thursday and Friday night. No debarkation at Regensburg due to low water levels. This also means that the Nuremberg ship excursion and the Narrows boat tour have been cancelled. We heard on board that no ships are leaving or going to Budapest - just buses!
  4. Update .. currently on the Viking Egil, boarded yesterday (Saturday) and during orientation we were told that the water levels are very low and have been fluctuating daily so the current plan is to end in Passau instead of Regensburg, but that could change later in the week so nothing is etched in stone. Looks like that's the only change in itinerary at this point. So far it's been lovely, this is our first time river cruising.
  5. Hello CC community... My wife and I are set to sail this Saturday 8/6 Budapest to Regensburg on Viking. Um, make that Budapest to Passau (for now). Recent email received today: ========== Dear Viking Guest, Thank you for choosing Viking for your upcoming European voyage. If you are not aware, we wanted to let you know that the Danube River is currently experiencing unusually low water levels that will impact your itinerary. When water levels are too low, navigation for vessels on the river may become restricted. As a result, we may need to adjust our sailing speeds, which could result in slight delays, or dock in alternate locations in areas where our regular docking spots are adversely affected by the conditions. Due to low water levels on the Danube River near Passau, your ship will be unable to reach its regular disembarkation port in Regensburg and you will now disembark in Passau (75 miles east of Regensburg). As a result of these changes, your Regensburg shore excursions will operate in or near Passau on Day 7. Rest assured, we have considerable experience in dealing with situations like this and will make every effort to stay as close to your itinerary as possible. In any event, we are confident that you will enjoy your journey — and we will do everything in our power to ensure your time with us is enriching and meaningful. For guests joining us for our post-trip extension, you will be transferred to your hotel from the new docking location on disembarkation day. ======================== That's the latest info we have, I'll be updating as we go along in a few days or answer any questions.
