Does anyone know if there's a fridge in Lido cabin 9200 and is there a Thalassapy pool in the spa?

  2. Just made final payment on our February cruise and completed check-in for our Thanksgiving cruise - on which I make platinum!

So excited!! Walking that gangplank, stepping on that ship for the first time, heading to serenity or the adult pool area, relaxing on that lounge with a DOD in my hand; knowing that the next 7 days I will not have to cook a meal, wash a dish, make a bed, do laundry, go to work - is a thrill EACH and EVERY time! :D

What is it about a Cruise?

    by Anne Campbell

It’s always the ship’s horn that stops me in my tracks. It frequently catches me in the act of unpacking for the voyage ahead. This unforgettable sound is when the ties that bind me to land and my life back home begin to fray a bit. Racing to the top deck I peer over the side as sailors drop the thick-coiled ropes, finally making hand signals to the bridge that the ship is all clear. Suddenly this gleaming white vessel slowly begins her horizontal slide from the pier and we majestically steam out of port.

This is the most magical moment of the voyage for me, the actual separation of the self that normally inhabits me and the self I’ll become for a week or so. My excitement level is so high I want to jump like a child with glee. I fully understand DiCaprio’s euphoric outburst on the bow of Titanic. We’re leaving for unknown adventures, to be revealed each day.

On the pool deck, passengers lift glasses of bubbly, dance or silently stare ahead, at the seas that carry this royally crafted vessel, designed to carry several thousand people 50 weeks per years for a duration of 30 years. By the time we have fully departed home port, I can almost see the person I was back home, sadly standing on the pier silently mouthing "bon voyage."

The myriad irritations and problems of life aren’t resilient enough to follow me to any ship. The effect is akin to a deep massage, perhaps with a magic potion tossed in. I simply no longer care that the dry cleaner ruined my best dress, stupid mistakes at work haven’t been corrected or even that I must eventually come home. Nor do I worry if my clothes are right, that I’ll fit in with other passengers or whether the food will be passable. For one week, I’ll be with like-minded folks who have cast-off everything but the joy at being carried away to new places.

The seas, oceans and rivers of the world offer cruisers so many choices. If you demand a place in the sun, then the Caribbean is your natural habitat, with its potpourri of colors and people and splendid tropical climate (and, should you ever tire, Hawaii or the South Seas might entice your senses). If you’re looking for adventure and wildlife, Antarctica, the Galapagos and Amazon beckon. If majestic scenery fills your soul with wonder, then you should sail through the southern tip of South America, Alaska’s Inside River or in and out of Norway’s saw-toothed fjords.

Serious scuba divers will love the Mexican Riviera on sailings from either the West Coast of Florida and our own eastern seaboard can be explored all the way from Florida to the rocky coastal islands of Maine. If you wish to stretch your mind, as well as your legs, in every port, the whole world is waiting for you. Those who love antiquities will be thrilled in Greece, Turkey, Israel and Egypt. If it’s river life you like, try the small boats on the waterways of Europe, the paddle wheelers on the Mississippi and Ohio River and the barges along the Nile. You can be as enriched and fulfilled as you desire, or pursue each day at a sail’s pace.

This is the perfection of a cruise.

  3. Does anyone know if the aft balconies on the Sunshine are all the same size or are the ones closer to the outside larger than in the middle? I know the aft wraps are larger, but just wondering about the regular afts. Are the rooms and or balconies any different in size?

We are booked into 8338 and 8337 on the Sunshine. 8335 and 8330 are extra long about 18 ft. The only ones except the wraps.

We have couple pic's of 8335 ( chermikemiller@cox.net) or you can Google Sunshine or Destiny cabin _______.

  4. Hey all,

Does anyone know which dining room Early Confirmed seating dines in? Sunrise or Sunset on the Sunshine? We are heading out on her Dec 1st and my kidds (1st timers) are getting sooo excited! :)

From our experience larger groups, Diamond and Platinum and past guests seem to be in the larger (Sunrise) dining rooms.

We have only been assigned to the smaller one (if the ship has 2) once in 20 trips. Have no reason why. Might be completely wrong on this as it is pure speculation. May be how early one books.

  5. Don't know if these are the only ones, some say you will have to wait till on board and ask the room steward.

  7. We were on the Valor in May 2013, OV, I am not too thrilled with the "rough" feel of the robes in our cabin.

Thought I read somewhere that the robes are of better quality if you are in a Spa Cabin.

    Can anyone confirm?

If yes, how much softer, better quality?

I think you can buy those robes also and (supposedly you get a brand new one).

We will be on the Breeze in December, Cove Balcony so even if the Spa Cabin robes are better, we might not be able to buy one through our room steward.

No idea how much they cost either, i.e. are they worth the price?

    All comments appreciated.

Used to be the suites had an upgraded robe super soft, really thick with neat embroidery, loved them and we purchased a couple. Don't know about now days. The ones we have seen recently are the regular grade if you will. You can purchase robes on the comfort collection Carnival web site. We got ours at the Formalities store on the ship.

  8. We are considering a Sunshine cruise next August and I have a question (or two) about the rooms. Have any of you stayed in either aft view balcony or premium balcony? I am looking at aft balcony room #8330 or premium balcony room #6336 (which seems to have a rather interesting shape).

Is one room better than the other?

    Just curious. Thanks.

8330 & 8335 are primo balconies adjacent to wraps. They are about 18ft long and normal extended depth. Only on Deck 8.

We are booked into 8335 for the Repro Cruise April 6th. We always book aft extended, wraps or Vista Rooms.

I have pic of the back of the ship. Will e-mail to you if I get your e-mail.

  9. We've never done the Chef's Table so I need to ask... I know it costs $75pp. What is the $15pp for?

It was our tip. My daughter is a waitress and we tip 20% of the bill.

Others say it is all ready included some say not but we tip. Been over discussed before.

  10. Just did the CT on the Splendor in June. Good to do once? Up to you. Chefs were very cordial.

Held in a conference room near kitchen.

    Too much food.

Too much time: 4+ hours (6:30 pm to 10:45 pm) included kitchen tour

    Too much money for a family: $75pp + $15pp ($360 for us)

Don't particularly care for 5 chef's staring at me as I eat.

Advise: Use the bathroom before you go. Hard to excuse yourself.

All 14 attendees received signed cook books and 2 pictures (one from each table end)

Food was fine but not real hot and most didn't like at least 2 courses out of 7.

    Wine was good.

Had a Magician for a while but he was interrupted by his radio way to much.

We have done the kitchen tour before which may have lessened the experience.

    Mike
