Hi - we're Joe & Wanda from NW Florida....sailing on Nov 1st this year. This site was recommended by Tip N Ring.
We'll be driving from NW Florida....approx. 7 hours. Would REALLY like recommendations for a decent hotel/motel somewhat near the Port. We'll probably try & park at the Port, so we can simply disembark & GO.
Was also thinking about coming up a day early, so we'd have an entire day to explore Charleston. Have driven thru it, but never stopped. Any suggestions for, "If u only have a day, here's what you CANNOT miss seeing." ???
Thanx! Joe

MegaCruiser: we've been on the Epic & the Getaway in the past 12 months... In my personal opinion, the Epic is better, simply due to the layout...would like to see your pic's/thoughts from walking out of the buffet towards the main pool. Very small main pool area...no chairs/tables (except for smokers.)
We're on the Epic in 2016 out of Barcelona....may do BTB in 2015.
On both those venues, what are you "you can't miss this" excursions? (NCL or not.) Thanx! joe

Just to let u know....we received the Shareholder credit for all 4 cruises we have booked. Many thanx to all who gave us the info! Joe

Thanx for all the info...we received the OBC for our next cruise & the other 3 in 2015 are pending. Thanx, again! Joe

Remember, if u have purchased the "all u can drink" package, it will NOT be honored on the island - u pay for drinks. It's only good on the ship. Had a few disappointed people at the bar our last time there!

Just sent the first e-mail w/the pdf attachment for our Dec cruise....will see how it works! Thanx, again, for all the info....Joe
-
Many thanks for all your replies! Great info! We'll try it out & I'll post the results (we currently have 4 Carnival cruises booked!)
Thanx again! Joe

Please elaborate....We recently purchased 100 shares of Carnival stock, after a previous cruise....I spoke w/3 different people at Carnival today re: the OBC thing. Was informed by ALL 3 that they accept "snail mail" or fax ONLY - no emails....
It's easy for us to scan it whatever info is needed & turn it into a pdf file & attach to an e-mail.
Please verify an e-mail address that HAS BEEN successful recently!
Thanx a bunch, in advance!

Port of Miami has a new tunnel to the port to avoid downtown traffic.. Website is portofmiamitunnel. We are cruising from there this weekend.

I have done it both ways and can see the pros and cons of each. For my upcoming cruise, I have decided to park at the port. It is pricier but I have figured my time into the mix. Personally, I would rather be able to get into my car immediately after disembarking rather than having to wait for a shuttle or taxi to take me back to my car. The last time I parked at the hotel and had to be shuttled back, it took probably an extra hour and a half.
Additionally, I thought it was pretty easy to get into and out of the parking deck and back to the interstate.

Did you use the new tunnel to get to and from the port?

Hoping for only good news for you. We wish you the best!

Bottom line Carnival and NCL both have their good points and bad(mostly good for both), personally I've never had a bad day at sea. Never tried any other cruise line, but might enjoy them too.

We were in an inside cabin and there was a hair dryer there.
:D

What was the entry fee? Do you have to make reservations for it?

Golden Corral? Really? Do you realize that you lost all your credibility with that one statement?
I recently ate at Cagney's seven times for dinner on a recent Panama Canal Cruise. It was that great. Revising the menu and improving the quality of the meat offerings was a wonderful move by NCL.
Why do you feel the need to attack other people's opinions? Have you been there? I have and had a very bad experience. I won't go back. Do whatever you want!

Hey folks,
I've had better food at Golden Corral for much less cost.
I've eaten at Outback and Ruth Chris, not even a close comparison and yes I've had the new menu. The previous menu was so much better!

My posts include my personal opinion. If you like the menu, you are welcome to pay the price. I won't be doing it.

I ordered the Baked Potato Soup and DH had the Shrimp Cocktail and the Crab Cake. The soup had no flavor, there were only 3 shrimp and the crab cake had very little crab in it, just imo. Both had filet mignon, my was cooked okay, but dh ordered medium and got rare. Had a slice of cold garlic butter on top. DH had baked potato and I had steamed broccoli. His was ok, mine had absolutely no flavor. I had dessert and dh had coffee. I got two large slabs of brownie, with big chunks of peanut brittle and a little bit of chocolate ice cream. My dessert was not good. His coffee was not like we had the last time we ate in Cagney's with the old menu. IMO

Have you tried the new menu? A great meal is far more possible then it was a month ago. Pretty snarky post on your side. You may want to read Who Moved My Cheese it takes about 30 minutes.

We're on the Nov 1st sailing. First time in Charleston for both of us.
Where is a decent hotel? Looks like North Charleston? We're NOT Suite people who can afford the $250 plus/night for the places near the Port!
We also will be driving & parking at the Port. Any suggestions re: "Once u get near the Port, don't miss the Right/Left turn at ......" Thanx! Joe
