  1. This was delish, but on our last cruise we also had a chocolate coffee souffle that blew everything else out of the water.

Several years ago they discontinued the grand marnier souffle and it was replaced with the chocolate souffle. I preferred the former much better! ;) I was so happy when they brought it back with the new menus.

  2. Going on first cruise in Feb next year. After reading so many posts,I'm prepared to be less than wowed by the food. Hopefully we get some beauty's to remember like you guys have posted. Thanks.

No offense, but this is completely the wrong attitude to go into your cruise with. The majority of people who go on cruises love the food and are amazed by the taste and quality. If you don't like what you ordered just get something different. Don't become jaded by all of the negativity that gets posted on these board. Remember that people are about 20x more likely to post a complaint than a compliment. So, figure that for every negative review on here there was probably at least 20 others that were happy and/or amazed, but didn't post anything. You can't please everybody all of the time and some people you can please none of the time. The latter are the ones who like to post a lot on cruise critic. End of Rant.

Oh, and I'd also like to vote for those little potato croquets (if you don't order the entree they come with just order a plate of them as a side!). They are so yummy!!!! I suspect a ton of people don't even know they exist.

  3. Also have heard that there are NO rental car agencies on Galveston open on sundays that you would drop car off at.

    Michael

I would pick up and drop off the car from the Hobby airport location. I could use the hotel's free shuttle to get to and from the airport/hotel in order to pick up and drop off the rental car. It's sounding like it wouldn't really be worth the hassle or money at this point.

  4. What hotel are you staying at ?

    Probably not

Most hotels will have something around them

If one that does not, a cab will work.

If there is something you really want to do .

We are staying at Marriott Springhill Suites (Hobby Airport).

I'm thinking we may just wind up chilling out at the hotel. I just didn't want to be at the hotel all day and not take advantage of anything in the Galveston area that was must-see or must-do.

  5. We, a group of four, are flying into Hobby Airport for a cruise in early October. We arrive the day before the cruise early in the afternoon. I've already booked a hotel near the airport (and plan to use the free airport shuttle to the hotel), and I've also made arrangements for a taxi/shuttle service to take us to the port on the day of the cruise.

My question is this: Would it be worth the money and effort to rent a car for the 1/2 day before our cruise departs so that we could drive around town, drive to Galveston Island, etc; or should we just stay put and relax at our hotel? I think our hotel offers a shuttle to local attractions, so we wouldn't be completely stuck, but would be very limited.

Advise and opinions from locals or regular Galveston cruisers would be most appreciated! :)

  6. I'm sorry, and I'm sure no one will care, but I came here to find some advice, and now some of the comments are actually more frustrating than RCI's people. I should probably just disengage.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to read through this conversation and for offering your opinions, suggestions, and potential solutions. Most of them were EXTREMELY helpful, even the ones that were suggesting moving to Celebrity etc.

You've hung in there much better than most OP's would have in your situation (in regards to cruise critic posters). As far as thread-starters go you're doing a remarkable job at replying to everyone's comments, advise, and criticism. Most OP's would have disappeared after their first post or two. I knew from the beginning you were going to get a wide variety of responses. You've probably got a lot more positive support than most people get on here (believe it or not), so you should actually be quite proud of yourself. :) Good luck with your situation.

  7. We are also having trouble understanding what our GAP should be.

Our Travel Agent claims it effects the pricing of the cruise by getting the Tour Conductors Credit or GAP points on Serenade of the Seas 9 May 2015.

    We are confused.

Some of the group are on 4 B2Bs starting 11 April 2015.

I am curious to what or if GAP points are on 9 May 2015 please?

7 NIGHT NORWEGIAN FJORDS CRUISE: 0 GAP points

There would still be a tour conductor credit available to someone if 8 staterooms were booked.

  8. That is what I thought. Thank you

This isn't entirely correct either. Don't jump to too many conclusions about your TA. I know from personal experience that the tour conductor credit can be very confusing. Royal Caribbean's TA website even states the following: "Payment of the tour conductor credits will be mailed within two to four weeks after the departure date". So, I think that some TA's might make up the tour conductor difference out of their own pocket so their client pays less up front and then just keep the credit when they get it in two to four weeks; other TA's may offer the credit after sailing, like your TA told you, for instance. I don't profess to know the correct answer, but I do know it can be confusing and there may be the possibility of offering the tour conductor credit in several different ways.

  9. We are flying (Hobby) in on Saturday for a Sunday Cruise with on Triumph. It is 4 of us and wanted to stay somewhere and catch a shuttle.

Why is there a $20 drop drop fee at the pier? So if we pay for a shuttle does that include that fee? Confused!

What are some good hotels to stay in hopefully with a pool and something nearby to keep kids entertained?

We will not have a car.

    Is this cruise in 2014?

The Triumph sails on Monday, October 6th, 2014.

Am I confused or missing something?

  10. We have a group of 17 on RCCL Navigator and I'm shocked by transportation costs to Port Galveston. It is costing our group over $1000 R/T. Keep that in mind when booking a cruise out of TX. I won't do it again.

Who are you using for transportation for this price?

  11. Pen and highlighter

    Folder for cruise compasses

    Air freshener

    Refillable water bottles

Sunburn gel with aloe and lidocaine

    Camera and charger

    Digital alarm clock

    A good book

    Sunscreen

    Bug spray

    Lomotil

    Bonine/phenergan

    Dulcolax

    Ibuprofen

    Hydrocortisone cream

    Benadryl

    Birth control pills*

    Band aids and alcohol wipes

    Mesh bag for dirty laundry

    hat and sunglasses

    Cash

A good "go with the flow" attitude

I'm not sure if this list is supposed to be taken seriously or not. These are not, by any means, MUST-have items! I think I regularly take about 6 of those items with me on any given cruise. Many things that are handy or convenient are not MUST-haves. Don't waste your time or luggage space with most of the items on the above list. ;)

  12. Fully understand what OP is attempting to do and IMO it's still not OP's issue to get involved or even present options.

How ironic. You're basically trying to get involved in the OP's business and tell them what they should or should not do. Either answer the OP's question or don't! But don't post your unsolicited opinion where it does not belong. It's not your issue to get involved in either.

  13. I made the final payment yesterday for our upcoming Splendour of the Seas cruise. When I checked the "My Cruises" section on the RCCL website a short time later, it showed that I had an outstanding balance of $360. I waited to see if it was simply due to a glitch in the system, but after a few hours, my unpaid balance had gone up to $670. I phoned Crown & Anchor and they adjusted it back to a $0 balance. An outstanding balance of $360 showed up again overnight, followed by another for $895. I called C & A an hour ago, and they readjusted it back to $0 once more. I just looked at the website and there is now another outstanding balance of $360!

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I have read about people having unpaid balances of a few dollars, but nothing as strange as this. The C & A representatives have all been very nice and apologetic, too, but I am getting a bit frustrated. Is there someone besides C & A that I should call? Thanks for any advice - I will have to phone Royal Caribbean for the fourth time in 24 hours to try to straighten this out.

It's definitely a glitch in their booking system. I've been having the same problem with cruises I've booked for some friends in May. Accessing the booking magically re-rates the cruise and removes any promotional deals or specials. It doesn't make any sense, I know, but I've confirmed that is exactly what's happening. I hope the updates another poster mentioned fix the problem!

  14. I just booked a cruise for Nov. 30, 2014 on FOS but it was NOT included in the WOW sale. I'm disappointed as I hoped for onboard credit and reduced deposit.

I could have booked the same CRUISE on a DOT COM site and received free gratuities worth amost $200, but since I always book thru the cruiseline so I can access any information I was kinda hesitant. What are your opinions?

However, I did get the price I wanted and the perfect balcony location plus they will be putting up Christmas decorations that we have never seen.

The only thing that worries me now is the price of airfair one or two days after Thanksgiving. I hope booking flight very early will help.

I see $100 OBC available when booking this cruise for WOW sale ...

  15. Just got back from Jamaica on the Freedom and can't say enough good things about Courtney Taylor. We did Dunns River falls then the Blue Hole. Had previously not really enjoyed Jamaica in previous trips but this was a whole new experience. It was my wife and I and and 8 and 9 year old and always felt safe and really enjoyed ourselves. Can't say enough kind things about Courtney.!!!!

Or you could say it was a "Hole new experience" ...

We're doing this exact same excursion next week and can hardly wait! :)

Can you tell me how much you tipped the workers at the Blue Hole?

    Thanks!
