  1. I made it over to Mission Bay today and was able to grab some photos of the Jewel all laid up in dry dock. She is at BAE Systems, at the end of 20th Street in San Francisco. A decent viewing area is easily accessible from a public pier on Tony Francois St and Mission Bay St.

Awesome pics! It's a hard place to get a good photograph.

Wish there was some elevation to get better pics around there. I like that they have that little pier and the park benches though.

I always laugh when the put a diaper on the rear end. Golden Princess taking a poop :p

  2. Howdy neighbor...94131 here :) Grab a cab down to Pier 35, hop on a ship, and head down to Mexico! The new ports are great. You can get Cubans down there.

Wait...Mexico on a foreign flagged ship. Hmm. Can you bring Cuban cigars on board down there? Serious question.

  3. We took an excursion from St Thomas to St Johns, the boat ride over was informative and beautiful. When we got to St Johns, we took a cab to one of the beaches and spent a few hours there. It was beautiful and we were very happy that we did it

This is exactly what we did the last time we were there. We went to Trunk Bay, rented beach chairs and grabbed lunch at the little food shack. Awesome day.

  4. Right. If the cruise is disembarking after an Alaskan or Hawaiian cruise, chances are it won't be a big deal. Repositioning from South America is a whole 'nuther story, of which legends (of the nightmare kind) are made.

Most long term members...or people with good search techniques...will ever forget that story!

  5. On the April 13th sailing of the Grand Princess to Hawaii roundtrip San Francisco, we turned our custom forms into the cabin steward and just walked off the ship on disembarkation day (April 28th). We never even had to show our passports. They were conducting immigration onboard in by theatre for those that, I assume, were not US citizens. They were to calling individual passenger names to report for that by the time that we disembarked shortly after 9:00. It was one of the easiest disembarkations that I have experienced. There was a bit of a line to get to the bags, but it moved quickly.

We were on the same cruise and it was a non-issue, and we turned in our forms a full day late at Guest Services...oops!

  6. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the May 17th cruise passengers that this delay is very minor and will not put them too far behind so their cruise begins on time and on a nice fresh ship. :D:D

Thank you so much for the updates gcvt! It is greatly appreciated for those of us that get to board her very soon.

Again, it's my pleasure. My first opportunity to get down there and actually photograph her in dry dock will be on Friday or Saturday. I'll see what I can do :)

  7. This is so cool!! Thanks for sharing your pics and view! Miss San Francisco already! Mind you we were on the Pearl for my first cruise back in 2011. She will always be my first love, just wish they hadn't removed the waterside. Does Jewel have one?

Glad you liked the photos! I'm happy to be able to photograph the ship and share it with you guys.

I'm just as addicted as all of you, maybe more LOL.

  8. Did the Jewel ever dock?

She did not. I'm looking at her right now with a tanker anchored off her starboard aft. Check the post right before yours (Post #40) - I posted a pic of her sleeping out in the Bay.

I wonder who is on board? What materials do they have? What work could they possibly be doing without access to the materials waiting for them at dry dock?

I suspect a "Delay Party" might be happening tonight :p

  9. Ha, it's worth a thought.. We recently bought a house in San Diego, but hubby spends more time in SF, and I like your view better than the SD view lol, sooo.. :D Used to live in Half Moon Bay - LOVE LOVE LOVE SFO!!!

I love Half Moon Bay! Francesca and I had our first date, 8-1/2 years ago at Pasta Moon on Main Street.

Hey, if you buy that condo, we can share cabs down to the new cruise pier together. Hmm :)

Okay, one last photo. Looks like she'll be sleeping in the Bay tonight...Jewel...not Francesca

  10. Nice - thanks for the pic. That would be the red stack of Potrero power plant, if I'm not mistaken?

Yep, that's the base of 20th Street. I'll post more pics in a while.

It's been so long since we've had a cruise ship in dry dock here. Grand Princess was supposed to be here last November but she went to Canada instead since it was cheaper. Last one was a Carnival ship almost two years ago? Maybe not quite that long.

  11. Interesting that it will not be available on the Regal.

If true, we can expect to see a few choice posts once the Regal starts its itineraries.

    That will be interesting indeed.

It was certainly interesting to see passenger reactions on Grand on 4/13 since not many people knew it would be available. There were people just standing around using their iPhones to calculate the total cost....lots of shocked faces! Most walked away. We only saw one person buy the package...well over $1500 for her and her husband. I only mention this because we had to go to three different stations to find the GF a cup for her UKP sticker and cup. There really didn't seem to be a lot of interest in the "all in" package.

  12. I am taking my own bar soap next time though.

Can't do squat with that circular sliver of so called soap.

We took our own soap too. I'm fine with a good old bar soap but the GF likes her fancy stuff.

And thank you Jas for the pic of the lotion bottle. I couldn't remember the size...two ounces... I can't remember how many of those we went through with all the sun we got - at least one a day. If only they would supply free Aloe and sunscreen LOL.
