  1. I knew firearms could be carried in checked baggage, but I didn't realize that ammo could also. I would think that would be a potential safety hazard in case of a fire in the cargo hold, regardless of any other concerns.

If a plane somehow caught on fire at 30,000 feet, your concern would be if there was ammunition in the cargo hold?

  2. He is ex-military, flew in from Anchorage, Alaska, and yes, with his gun checked in his baggage. After retrieving his baggage, he went into the airport bathroom and got his gun out and loaded it before he started shooting innocent people in their heads.

IF they are going to allow people to fly with guns, then they ought to ensure that all guns are packed in separate "gun baggage", tagged, and accepted outside the terminal by a special officer and returned to passenger outside the airport, on the concrete, returned by an armed officer in the special unit. (TSA are not armed, and we don't want them armed.) Sure, some might still try something outside, but they would have many fewer living targets.

Gun toters should have to pay enough for this special baggage and the service by an officer to hand it back to them to be a deterrent to a decent proportion of them.

If they don't comply with this new regulation, then they don't get their guns back.

First, checked firearms already have to be in TSA approved locked containers. Second, tagging them as "gun baggage" would only lead to thefts. Third, once the firearm is handed back to the owner outside the terminal, what prevents them from loading it and entering back in to an unsecured area? Lastly, it sounds like your proposal is not really about safety but more about making it so difficult and expensive that people will stop wanting to travel with firearms. Would you feel the same if your son or daughter were a professional marksman and frequently travelled to competitions, maybe the olympics?

  3. What is NOT legal is to put one's ammunition, in their baggage: this is a MAJOR security laps by the TSA at Anchorage International Airport!

Ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.

Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm. Read the requirements governing the transport of ammunition in checked baggage as defined by 49 CFR 175.10 (a)(8).

Small arms ammunition, including ammunition not exceeding .75 caliber and shotgun shells of any gauge, may be carried in the same hard-sided case as the firearm.

  4. Having a wonderful time. Will write more upon our return. Dining room food is excellent. Staff is great. Everyone so friendly. Weather is excrutiatingly hot and humid this time.

Butter in dining room has to be requested on this ship.

    Buffet food not so great

    Entertainment is good

Love our Caribe balcony and had forgotten how big they are!

I remember checking when you posted this and it was 95° that day

Last time we did that itinerary, we took the little Princess towels they give you on the dock, 'ran' to a bar on the marina, ordered a bucket of iced beers, put the towels in the bucket, and enjoyed a few Pacificos with icey towels on our necks :)

And yes, Caribe balconies are the way to go. Yay.

  5. Well that's too bad. We had a great time on the Emerald in that pool! But i do remember some people getting scolded by the Sanctuary staff when they got a little too vocal in their fun. Not us of course! :D

I would never hit that magic button when my unsuspecting GF was right in front of the jet. No way :D

Can't remember which ship was the only one that it actually worked on. It was either Star or Grand.

  6. Are the happy hour ( BOGO for a $1) times fixed on every ship and if so what are the times?

Does this also include all sailings wherever the ships may be in the world.

    Thanks..

When we were on CB in February we made every happy hour except on the second to last day when they moved it up by one hour :( Shoulda checked but we got lazy.

  7. didn't and wasn't meant to put anyone down.

Just think it's pretty ridiculous that some think that it's necessary to be first to report every time someone sprains and ankle on a ship

You're actually gonna double down on your stupid comments?

Would you be happier if someone else had asked why the ship was turning around and then the OP posted in response to the question?

You must be an absolute joy to cruise with

  8. Late October is usually pretty nice around here. Avg temp is 68°. Could be rainy though - our first rains usually come around Halloween. Count on the first couple of days being chilly on the water. Even if it's a comfortable temperature, count on it being windy going out under the Golden Gate.

Enjoy your Hawaii cruise! That's one of our favorites out of SF.

  9. hahaha! I interpreted the title of this thread wrong.

Living quite near San Francisco, I though you were stating that the sun peeking through the marine layer was delayed. Some days, it doesn't even show at all. I am laughing at my misinterpretation. :D

PS -- my cousins were just visiting me from Florida a couple of weeks ago. They got to the coast and called me asking me when the fog was going to clear. I said, well, could be in two hours, it could be next month. LOL

Haha! I can almost see our RV across the street...not quite. Literally cannot see the apartment building opposite of us.

The GF's parents were here from NY last week. No idea why. Why not come in September when it's awesome? Even with the fog, they were amazed with our "view". What?

  10. On another thread someone posted the comment that the Sun P is staying an extra day in San Francisco to have some work done to fix an electrical problem. They will have three days in San Francisco but miss San Diego.

Ah! I must have missed that thread. Thanks for the info. I knew she had generator issues back in April but hadn't heard about any recent problems. Hopefully they're out enjoying San Francisco this evening. The fog has lifted and it's a nice night out.

Wish we were going on this cruise! Mmm 25-day...err 24-day...to Australia. So jealous.
