  1. She doesn't quite fit under the Bridge of the Americas in most tidal conditions.

I think I read somewhere that the suspension bridges are capable of being cinched up a bit by the cables making room underneath for taller ships.

Would this apply to the Bridge of the Americas ??

    Is it a suspension bridge??

    anyone know?

This would make the idea of a itinary from South Hamp. to say LA a great trip on QM2.

  2. How Ironic.

Using your Cunard Internet Time/Computer to trash your trip on Cunard.

I just got off the Liberty of the Seas. A total disaster of a trip. I went with the InLaws. NEVER AGAIN. I really should write a comparison about it soon to my last QV trip.

But my luggage was hurt also. Oddly enough the zippers on both bags were damaged, the pull part was removed from the zipper it self. I am sure the handlers snagged it on something but BOTH bags?

My point is that I think the bag handling thing is on all the ships. I can't imagine being one of the staff assigned to lift and tote bags on a weekly basis. It must get very tedious and the heavy bags stuffed with clothing and such must get to the guys.

  3. DDBINK, this video from the last dry dock describes the repair process:
    fast forward to 1:20

As capnpugwash said, hopefully it will be better done this time. -S.

Thank you. I had never seen those vids. What is that floor made of that it just falls apart ?

  4. I don't actually see a problem with multi use of the Queen's Room. So long as the dancing floor is kept in great condition and is used only for dancing in the evening. If I remember right, there were several occasions on QV and QM2 where the Queens Room was used as another place for say the Captains meet and greet and bingo. Am I wrong??

  5. Hope that you get Jackie as a butler. Great one to have.

Use your butler as a resource for items you don't know about on the ship.

The bar in the Queens Grill Lounge always has a very attentive staff and if you mention your favorite drink or Tea they will always bring it to you as you sit down. Tea service is grand in the Queens Grill lounge. Go to it. Have your butler make your reservations for a box for the show. And remember to go there early at least 1/2 hour before the show, the service starts before the show for the box patrons. The Maitre D in the grills dining room will order you anything you like for dinner if you pre plan it. And any dessert also. Eating food from any of the other areas to eat at (except the pub) are not as good as the Queens Grill Dining room (in my opinion).

If you have good weather or not you can have dinner from the menu in the dining room served by your butler in your room or on the balcony (good weather permitting).

  6. I have been thinking about what would make the experience in the Grills Suites better. And I didn't see a specific thread about this recently. So I thought I would ask for suggestions on how Cunard could upgrade the experience for the Grills Suites. If they are good maybe Cunard will listen to the suggestions??

  7. I have had a balcony cabin in all of my cruises but 4. I'm shocked how many people keep their doors open all night.

We learned from the start this was frowned about. I've never ever left my Balcony door open..day or night.

I have however, brought my own rug to put out on the balcony, when I am out there. See pic. :)

I don't quite understand. A Rug? for what purpose?

  8. Sounds like all the problems with stops and even the accident, were not completely the fault of the ship/company. Maybe the river was not deep enough for the boat when it hit a rock ??

I think the story is about the communication with the passengers. Disappointment after the changed route changed again. Sort of got your hopes up and then dashed them.

Not too sure I could add another week on a vacation but that deal of a discount for a future cruise was not bad.

  9. Hmm, what if the person questioned does not tell the truth?

There is a nurse who started law suits and defied even self quarantine in Maine to prevent health officials from stopping her from going where ever she wanted.

Do you think Carnival Corp. would bend to the pressure of a law suit like that??? (I hope not)

I hope this all fades away soon and we can all get back to the buffet eating and social scene in the ships as before.

  10. Now what would be wrong with the addition of a water slide.

I think it could attract a few more of those Bogans you speak of.

And high profits for Cunard (Carnival Corp).

You might ask me why I think this.

Well, as I have posted before, the slide could end in the ship's wake. That way, once a Bogan family utilizes the slide for "fun". Their cabin could then be re-rented to the next port's Bogan family. Thus more port fees could be collected, more cabin rentals made, not to mention the monies that could be garnered from auctioning off the belongings of the Bogan that used the slide. And the Grills passengers could engage in a bit of wagering on which bogan would make a bigger splash in the wake after their fun filled slide.

A win win in my book. Please correct me if I have gone into the nether realms.

  11. On my first trip on QM2, I was in a balcony cabin but was interested in the Queens Grill Suites also. I went up to the Matre D of the QG restaurant and asked if I could look around. He was gracious and said of course and he took the time to show me around and explain how he ran the placement of guests and how the menu worked and the schedule of the restaurant. It was in a slow period just after lunch time on a sea day. It was only for a few moments but it gave me a great introduction to the Grills Restaurants. And of course, how can I do anything other than a Grills cabin now that I have experienced the Grills several times. Hope this helps.

  12. I wish you the best recovery. Having worked in Neurosurgery for many years I know you will find recovery a test of your will. But from the replies you have on here, you will have a fan club cheering you on and praying hard for the best of recovery. And I am betting, if you asked around, you would find plenty of travel companions. Get well.

  13. I have posted cards and letters on each of my Cunard cruises from the reception desk and also from my butler in my Grills cabin. Not a single one made it to anyone I sent them to. It made me sad. Weren't these Cunard ships mail carriers at one time?? Guess that tradition never made it through the Carnival take over??

Sorry, I am not trying to be negative. But every time I am on a Cunard ship I will mail something anyway. I have done this on all of my trips. Everyone of my cards has made it except the Cunard mail. I do this just to see if it makes it. I have read about mail lost for decades and then it shows up. I am still hopeful to see my post cards and letters I sent on my own Cunard letterhead posted from the ship. Time will tell.

  14. Only for Platinum Level and above, provided there is another rower to take their place - properly dressed, of course!

Yes, the proper dress will make it appropriate of course. However, the electricity generated by the biking must go to Grills first then trickle down to the rowers bare light bulbs.

  15. I once saw a BBC News Report from a Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer where the Reporter was almost thrown off his feet as the ship did a Crash Turn.

These 8,500 ton, 500ft ships can go from a dead stop to 30Knots in just over a minute, crash stop from full speed in a couple of ship lengths, and crash turn at full speed within 3/4 ship lengths. Her turning ability is such that she can draw the number '8' in the ocean with her wake.

Impressive machines, but such antics would no doubt spill afternoon tea on Queen Mary 2

I remember some maneuvers on QM2 on the Inaugural Caribbean Cruise when the ship announced it would do a full circle at high speed and we should be ready for a bit or movement. It seemed ok and smooth, but I was on the sun deck and drinking martinii's and the wait staff kept them coming since I tipped well with cash. (always keeps their attention where it should be) I did note that the sun changed position as we went around.

  16. I think some of the thoughts expressed here on Ebola and Cruising are fueled by our distaste of government. Nobody completely trusts authorities especially government authorities. And everyone loves conspiracy theories too.

The Ebola epidemic in America will never happen. And lets hope the scare on a ship is over and never happens again. And all get back to having great fun on our trips.

Remember, it is flu season also. Get your flu shots. and Happy Cruising. :)
