  1. Do not use the ATM on board. These machines give the very worst exchange rate. I just go to my local bank and order GBP or Euros (whatever you need) and it comes the next day and I drive 2 blocks to the bank and pick it up. I hate to be looking around for an ATM.

I bought a new Silk Underwear wallet (goes under my panties) at Bed, Bath, & Beyond for $11. I had the 20% off coupon and went to the store in Burbank (9 miles away) to save the $6 shipping.

    $13 - Samsonite® Security Waist Belt In BLACK - SKU # 18030748

    http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/samsonite-reg-security-waist-belt-in-black/1018030748 800-462-3966

I wear it on the plane and then put it in my cabin safe, taking only what I need for the day in my fanny-oak.

  2. In July, I bought a great book for $11.78 from Amazon:

Berlitz River Cruising in Europe [Paperback] by Ward, Douglas

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Berlitz+River+Cruising+in+Europe+%5BPaperback%5D+by+Ward%2C+Douglas

It reviews ALL of the ships by name, with photos, deck plans, and independent opinions. The publication date is July 2014 and, therefore, contains all the new ships. I am really enjoying it. ;)

  3. One can never do it All, just have fun trying. Although I have been to all the continents, I really have not seen much of the U.S.A. except for NOLA, Whidbey Island, and HI (thanks to the USNR). New Mexico and Virginia (thanks to the US Army), and Georgia (thanks to Lockheed). ;)

What Awaits: Thailand, African Safari, the Marqueses (Aranui 5) and back to AU, NZ, and Ireland again. :D

I figure I can do more of the U.S.A. after I get too old and crippled to walk because it is more accessible than Europe.

  4. Thanks for your ideas. I had forgotten about the 24-hour after-dive rest. It has been so many years since I have taken dive lessons. I was never able to clear my ears and, although a good swimmer, I am unable to dive deeply.

Also, I did not realize that the diving is so far from shore. When I was in Oz for 10 days, about 10 years ago, I flew from Sydney to Cairns for a couple of days and did the rainforest railway, a 4 AM balloon ride, and the aboriginal museum, not the diving.

If it were me, I would plan to return to Oz in the future for 2 weeks to try to do the whole island. In 10 days, I saw Sydney, Canberra, Blue Mountains, Ayers Rock & Alice Springs, as well as Darwin after a cyclone. I need to return to do the west, i.e., Perth and coast. ;)

I shall pass this along to Cici & Pat so they can decide. I appreciate your suggestions. :D

  5. Hello, Aussie Friends,

My DD, S-in-L, and GrandBaby disembark the Diamond Princess in Sydney on Tuesday 3 February and fly home SYD > LAX on Saturday evening, 7 February.

Patrick wants to dive the GBR but we only have from Tuesday until Saturday. Do you have any suggestions for:

    1. Hotels in Cairns near the dive beaches?

    2. Dive shoppes from which to rent suit & equipment?

    3. Flight times?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

  7. Wow. Praise indeed. I'm glad you liked it. And Di, I'm sorry but it won't be me you'll be hearing on the Mersey Ferry, but the dulcet tones of Gerry and the Pacemakers, et al. Enjoy your visit!

T: You sound like about 27 years old and I'll bet you feel it to when you sing. I find it interesting that there is no accent when one sings. Love your music. Thanks again! ;)

  8. Thanks, Towncar. That is so beautiful, I was in tears. Our Crystal Symphony will be there on Thursday 21 August, just in time for the big Beatles festivities. You are always so helpful. I leave next Wednesday for Dover and so excited. Maybe we will see you there on the Mercy Ferry! ;)

  9. That seems really strange that you cannot get the brochure. I received mine in California in about 2 weeks. You can also download it digitally if you want to use up all that ink to print it.

I looked at your website and the photos are lovely. However, my high-school French has left me so I would need to use Free Translation or Google to read it.

If I were you, I would e-mail all of the below addresses in Paris, Papeete, and El Camino Real.

  10. My brother currently lives in Tahiti and I'm planning to go visit him and sail with him on Aranui (although probably still Aranui3 since I want to go in the spring of 2015). Thank you for this information and the particularly the dates for 2015 travels, I hadn't seen it before.

    Bonjour, SarniaLo,

It has been over a month since I started this thread. Tonight, I just now saw that there are many threads for Aranui 3. I have some reading to catch up on!

I am so happy for you to be able to go on this wonderful ship and to visit with your brother. He is very charmed to be able to live in Tahiti. Is he near Papeete or on another island?

You can order a brochure here:

    Cheers,

    Donna

  11. Funny, I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Downtown Abbey, but never saw the show.

I am on the Crystal Symphony next month, doing 3 ports in Wales (where the most Castles exist), 2 ports in Scotland, & 2 ports in Ireland, leaving from Dover. I will be staying post-cruise in Dublin for a week.

My DD borrowed 3 of the disks from her Library and so I did a marathon until 3 AM watching through Season 8. Does anyone know how many more Downton Abbey sessions there are ???

  12. "They are spending as much time as possible on the high seas".

    I know, right ! :D

That was it, Fletch - The Fire & Ice cruise they called it. I loved the Falklands, Iceland, and Greenland. What a great cruise.

Now that I have been to all the continents, I want to go to Cuba.

The last time I saw them was on the Diamond to Alaska for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. I hope we can all sail again together, soon. :D

  13. Thanks so much, Nelson Bay and Fletch. This is a big help because AirBnB does not have postal codes on their website (not that I have seen) but they do show the streets and neighborhoods.

I shall also have a look at the Quest website.

Hey, FLETCH. Have you seen Kathy & Dennis lately? I think we were all on a cruise together once upon a time.

I hope they can meet up with Cici & Patrick whilst in Sydney (the Most Beautiful Harbour in the World). ;)

    Donna
