  1. My wife and I are looking to do a partial PC cruise in 2018, for our 5 year anniversary. Typically, it seems that Princess, HAL and NCL are the 3 lines that offer partial transits. Are we missing any?

Why only a partial, it's your 5th anniversary? 😄 You may never get that close again.

  2. On Monday, I got into a car accident right in front of school. I am ok but my car is probably totaled ( will find out today). I have to cross three lanes of traffic to get into the driveway of school. Some days the traffic is so bad that the driveway is blocked. So the first two lanes stopped and I inched out to check traffic and a car came driving a little too fastest for the traffic and hit me.

    Is it a sign?

Yesterday, my partner and I took our students to Mount Vernon. It was a great trip because we had plenty of parents to help out. The weather was great and the kids had fun.

Maybe you could come in from the other direction, and then you wouldn't have to cross 3 Lanes of traffic?

  3. Hi,

We are going to cruise with NCL on the Jewel in Feb 2017 from Miami to LA. It looks like you recently took the same cruise. Thank you for the Corinto recommendation. Do you have any other recommendations? I would like to hear about your experiences if you have some time.

    Thanks in advance,

    Marcia

Cartagena - We've been here 4 years in a row and have done all the basic excursions. This past winter we did the Hop On - Hop Off but spent a few hours touring the 'fort' and a self walking tour of the Old City. In previous visits we did the Old City Walking Tour (guided) along with a bus tour of the cities (old/new) and a fishing village. All were good.

    Puntarenas, Costa Rica - Puntarenas Highlights - 10 in 1 Tour - http://www.thumbsuptours.com

Corinto, Nicaragua - already provided info http://www.juliotoursnicaragua.com.ni/index.php/tours/64-shoring-in-corinto

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala - Antigua On Your Own Tour Booked thru NCL as we had excursion credits.

Acapulco, Mexico - Acapulco City with Cliff Divers - La Quebrada Cliff Divers show – Fort of San Diego - also through NCL

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Land's End Boat tour through NCL - or try Medano or Tabasco’s Beach on your own

    Hope this helps...

  5. Not a lot of cruises stop there...mostly Canal cruises, and ships going from the US to or from South America. So limited info is going to be available.

When we stopped there a couple of years ago (sailing from Lima to San Diego) nothing appealed to us. And seeing the security zone at the port didn't exactly seem welcoming. Even the crew was warned not to go outside of the immediate 6 square block port area. The sail in is pretty.

Too paranoid. The port was decent as it was the tour don't scare folks off for this Nicaraguan community.

  6. Thanks for this recommendation. I've read about Julio Tours elsewhere, but it's good to have something so recent.

Did you have any concerns or issues about getting back to the ship on time? (I don't know what it is, but I feel a bit more apprehensive about that in these ports than I would on a private shore excursion in Europe. But I do prefer private excursions.)

No concerns about getting back to the ship on time, as a matter of fact I believe he insists on an hour before the hour before. Email him as he is easy to converse with. He wasn't our tour guide but he did meet me and introduced himself in Corinto.

The port town of corinto which is walkable from the port was a cute little town with lots of trinkets to look at and purchase.

  7. No specific guest lecturer topics other than the canal on NCL. We just returned in March from the transit and had a daytime lecturer during the transit...he was excellent. In addition to his narration during the day he had a one-hour overview in the theater. Can't tell you whether or not you should change cruise lines but the jewel was a great adventure for us. It was our third consecutive Panama Canal Transit with previous transits on the Sta. Same lecturer on all three cruises. You won't be disappointed.

  8. Smoking is permitted on the port side on the pool deck as well as on starboard side on the prominade, additionally smoking is permitted in the casino which infiltrates the hallways and stairways on the end of the casino area. It would be nice if they could close the casino off by adding doors on each end containing the smoke.

P.S. smoke is even worse on the Getaway where the casino sits midship with open ceilings to the floors above. Smoke flows from the casino down the hallways on each end as well as up to the floors above most of mid-ship smells like smoke. I'm not against smokers I just would like to see the smoke contained, or eliminated inside the ship.

  9. Can someone tell me where the smoking areas are on the Jewel. You used to be able to smoke on one side of the pool deck, is that still allowed?

  10. I have had CC on my Android phone for a long time and enjoyed it. However recently I noticed an update that has changed what you get. In the previous version you did not get the "stickies" showing up on the page' date=' but now there they are, taking up almost an entire page. Also when you click on a thread rather than going to the first post, it now takes you directly to the most recent post. Anyone else notice this?

Not real thrilled with this new look. When I go to a thread I want to start at the beginning rather than the end. Would be nice to get the original back. Guess I'll have to delete the update and see if that helps.[/quote']

You'll get used to it. [emoji1] I prefer going straight to the end especially if I am familar with the topic. If not, I go back to the start.

  11. A good marriage does not mean spouses must travel together on every vacation. My husband has never been on one of my cruises and frankly both of us prefer it this way.

I believe you missed the point. The example in question related to when both signed up for the cruise and at the 11th hour one had to back out. I was trying to understand why one would go when the other couldn't.
