  1. Thanks for all the feedback. I've made my decision.

#1 I will put led fairy battery powered lights on my balcony

#2 I will only have them on for a short period of time in the evenings

#3 I will use command hooks to attach them

#4 I won't be looking into your balcony (hope you won't be looking into mine). Lol

#5 FYI I will turn off my balcony light (switch behind the curtain) at night

#6 I will have an amazing cruise & I hope all of you have one too!!!

Step #2A - answer the phone when the bridge calls.

  2. Ummmm.... That isn't what people are suggesting. It isn't even what you said people are recommending. Turning on Airplane Mode and then enabling WiFi is exactly the same as disabling data - which is what I said.

No it isn't. Disabling Data disables just cellular data, but still leaves wifi, Bluetooth, cellular telephone and SMS active. Turning on Airplane Mode disables all of those those plus cellular data.

So turning on Airplane Mode then enabling wifi is NOT the same as disabling data.

  3. Just to make sure I understand correctly, if I was in a Caribbean port and I only got the "welcome to cellular at sea" text when I turned on my cellular service on the ship, the ship was in violation of law?

In some cases they could be in violation of local regulations. It could also be the ship's cell tower is licensed or otherwise approved to operate in a given region. In the US, it would be the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which licenses radio frequency spectrum within the US. In Cozumel, it would be the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation of Mexico. It's entirely possible that the ship's tower is licensed to operate in that region. I'm not going to go look it up...

  4. We use GroundLink. They seem to get a bad rap around here for some reason... maybe because their prices are a little higher than others. Personally, I'm not always looking for cheap. Service and reliability are important factors for me, and in those departments, GroundLink is 100%.

If cheap is the priority, than a car service is not the answer.

  5. “It’s really frustrating and extremely humid and hot here,’’ said Smith, a freelance TV journalist who also griped that passengers were being gouged over bottled water — $54 for a 24-pack of Dasani — and Wi-Fi at $30 a day.

That's not what gouging means. Gouging is raising prices to the extreme during a specific period of high demand.

Those -- for the record -- are NCL's normal prices. And its Aquafina, not Dasani.

The NY Post are a bunch of sensationalist idiots.

  6. While I respect your decision, I do have a question.

Why would one sign up for upscale Club Class dining and not accompany it by upscale dress?

This is more of a curiosity question, not a criticism.

Well, it comes with a suite booking, so... I didn't really sign up for anything.

And is it really an upscale experience? Reading the responses here, it's just a designated section within an existing DR, and possibly a "special" door, 1 additional menu item, and special napkins. Is that really an upscale experience?

And yes, its a packing issue. We are going to Alaska. You already have to over-pack with jackers, sweaters, boots and jeans. Car service allows three bags. It's too much to add a suit/tux and gowns to the mix. Also, we just prefer not to dress up like that. So, again, I'm asking what the rule or expectation is, and not trying to redefine either or bend them to my preference.

  7. which only works well if you paid for the excursions on board (i.e., you used the special reservation number and reserved, but didn't pay for the excursion pre-cruise)

Please explain how you can do this; what number?

It's listed in the FAQ on the promo page:

    https://www.ncl.com/termsandconditions/promotions?hide_hf=true

and also in the Terms and Conditions (I know, I know...)

  8. Not sure which is worse - the newspaper with their somewhat misleading headline, or the folks that read it that way. No slams towards anyone... just a passing comment.

The newspaper is worse. It's the New York Post.

"Cruise line offers free housing and meals to its stranded passengers" -- better (more accurate, less inflammatory) headline...with a link to a Related Article in the story that describes the Norwegian Sky headed to St Thomas for a relief mission... (better journalism).

  9. You can sit with your family by boarding in the group you are assigned when you check in. If you end up in B group, then you can sit together. You don't want to pay for anything, but you want all the best services... top tier services that people pay for.

And Southwest does have rules associated with groups boarding together. They read like so:

Can groups assigned to different boarding positions board together? Yes. However, in order to maintain the integrity of the boarding process, we ask that earlier boarding positions board with the later positions. For example, if a passenger is assigned position A16 and wants to board with a passenger assigned position A45, the passenger holding the A16 boarding pass should board with the A45 passenger.

I know you're going to do it anyway, and I'm not stupid enough to think I'm going to change your mind. It's just rude and inconsiderate of your fellow passengers, that's all.

By the way, that $15 you spend on the Early Bird for one passenger is enough money to buy internet access on the ship to do it correctly by securing low boarding passes checking in 24 hours before your flight. Princess has a last-day internet special for like $10 or so.

As to your original question, I don't believe the Valet service actually completes the check-in process for you. They'll check your bags, but I don't think they check you in.

    Good luck to you.
