  1. IMHO, there is no need to take a tour, independent or cruise line,. to the caves because getting to the caves is so easy. There are 2 ways of getting to them:

Take the ferry to Hamilton and walk to the bus terminal on Church St. Board a route #s 1,3,10, or 11 bus, As you board, tell the bus driver your destination, Or you cold take a taxi instead of the bus. There is a taxi stand to the right of the ferry terminal on Front St.

    OR

Take the ferry to St George's and walk to the bus stop on York St. Board an inbound route #s 1,3,10, or 11 bus, As you board, tell the bus driver your destination, Or, you cold take a taxi instead of the bus. There may be taxis waiting near the ferry dock otherwise walk to King's Square for one.

  2. So $7 minibus shuttle or 4.50 public bus between Dockyard and Horseshoe?

    I assume it's 7 both ways?

any particular reason.you recommend the mini bus shuttle over the public bus?

    ½¾

and are the mini bus shuttles easy to.find?

Yes, $7 fare each way. I would take the min-bus because it loads steps from the cruise ship and unloads just short of the beach. The public bus requires you find a bus stop and unloads on the bus route which requires a walk of ½-¾ mile to the beach.

Mini-buses load in Zone 5 of the Transportation Zone:

  3. We will be going to Bermuda in Aug. on NCL Dawn. Does NCL provide passengers with free Ferry Tickets? If so can you elaborate, please?

    Thank you

When I answered a like question in post #2 of this thread, I did not know of tickets and still do not know of tickets, and since nobody corrected me, I must be correct. Your NCL sea pass card should be all you need to board the ferry. Just get in line before scheduled departure and show it as you board.

  4. What's is St. George? If i recall, it was all shopping. Beaches?

I would have to say your recollection is a bit foggy.

St George's is a UNESCO World Heritage Center. There is some shopping but not an abundance. If you want to shop, you go to Hamilton or the Clocktower Mall at the Dockyard. There are 3 small beaches that are about a 20 minute walk from the ferry dock, but they do not match the beauty and size of South Shore beaches especially Horseshoe Bay Beach.

  5. don't know about tickets, but just show up with your NCL pass and show it when boarding. For wait times, the departure times from the Dockyard are 9am, 11:30am, 2pm, & 4:30pm (Bermuda time).on Wed & Thurs. It only makes 4 round trips on Wed & Thurs and one on Fri.

If you would like to watch it, check out the Bermuda Cam

    Fellow Cruisers ,

We are party of 2 and we are planning to arrange private tour of the island with Lewis for our cruise ( See reviews, Very good reviews).

We need 4 more people for this tour as the minimum requirement is 6 people for this private tour.

It will be a 5 hours private tour $75 per person.

Please read reviews from other cruisers.

You'll be visiting Bermuda on Saturday, 8/18. The only other cruise ship visiting at the same time is GoS, and it doesn't dock until 2pm, and the Horizon departs at 5pm, all aboard at 4:30pm. No help there. I see that you have posted this to your roll call. I think that you'll get more bodies only by the roll call..

  7. We just came back from a cruise to Bermuda on Sunday. We used pubic transportation and it was really easy. We bought a 1 day pass and used it to get to the Aquarium and Hamilton. We tried to take the NCL ferry to St. George but it was full, so we took the high speed ferry that leaves from the Dockyard about 15 minutes later than the NCL ferry and when we arrived in St. George, people were still getting off the NCL ferry, so we didn't lose any time. Just follow the crowd and just after you start going uphill, you'll see a blue building and stairs. Go to the top of the stairs and this is where the busses leave from. I believe it was the number 11 bus that we took and there was a stop for the Crystal Caves before our stop for the Aquarium. When we were done, we took the number 7 (I think?) bus to Hamilton. It drops you at the bus station and you go right and down the hill and you'll see the ferry that take you back to the Dockyard. If you go to the information desk at the Dockyard to buy your tickets, there are a couple of people walking around that will help you with the bus numbers that you need to take. I may have the bus numbers mixed up so it's best to ask them and maybe for a bus schedule that you can take with you.

I may be mistaken but the bus stop in St George's is on York St. Maybe 6 buildings past St Peter's Church on your right The bus you would take to the BAMZ (aquarium) from the caves is either a route #10 or #11 bus. The bus you take from BAMZ to Hamilton is either a route #10 or #11 bus.

  8. Where are the pink sand beaches with regards to the cruise ship?

The pink sand beaches are along the South Shore. The closest South Shore beach is Horseshoe Bay Beach. Mini-buses are the best mode of transportation to/from HSB. They run continuously during the day. The fare is $7p/p each way for door to soor service. Travel time is 25-30 minutes depending on local traffic.

  9. So we want to ride bicycles on this trail but I don't want to rent at the port because that first section of road is full of traffic and dangerous IMO. Anyone rented a bicycle close to the trail? We don't care to ferry to Hamilton. . . somewhere along the main road we can taxi or bus to would be great.

I have attempted to locate cycle shops that are close to the western half of the Railway Trail. The cycle shops are:

A Oleander Cycles, Cambridge Beaches, 30 King's Point Rd, Somerset

B Oleander Cycles, Reefs Hotel Cycle Shop, 56 South Shore Rd

C Smatts Cycle Livery Limited, on property of Fairmont Southampton Hotel. 101 SouthShore Rd

D Elbow Beach Cycle, located at Elbow Beach Resort, 60 South Shore Rd

E Eves, 114 Middle Rd, Paget

F Oleander, 6 Valley Rd (off Middle Rd), Paget

Each is identified on the Railway Trail map below with a red letter. A shop with an address of Middle Road is closer to the Railway Trail than the shops that don't have that address. Also any shop with an address of Middle Road are on the route #8 bus route; the others, bus route #7.

The direct line distance from any shop to the trail should be less than a mile. Finding an access point to the trail will add distance.

  10. I will be in Bermuda in August, are minibuses always available and reliable on Saturday? Do they make the same stops and the public buses or is it a direct ride to Horseshoe bay? How long is the ride?

Does anyone have a picture available of what they look like and where to catch one?

Mini-buses are available whenever a cruise ship is at the Dockyard. The mini-buses go directly to Horseshoe Bay. The ride takes about 25-30 minutes depending on local traffic.

Here is a diagram of the Transportation Zone:

Mini buses would be found at Zone 5 backed in the traffic island.

  11. If you are just interested in going to the beach, no problem. You'll want to go to the beautiful and popular Horseshoe Bay Beach. Transportation is easy both to and from HSB. There are mini-buses that operate all day. The fare is $7 p/p paid to the driver when boarding. The mini-buses can be found in Zone 5 of the Transportation Zone. As you leave your cruise ship, you should see the mini-buses backed against the center island on that part of the wharf that connects to land or a Zone 5 sign. If not, ask a guide that are there to answer questions. Get on a bus that is filling; it departs when filled. When leaving HSB, look for a mini-bus in the parking area that is filling, and board.

  12. Ok yeah that was what I had thought. What about the public ferry to Hamilton? Worth it for the time or no?

The first ferry to Hamilton departs at 7:30am, and you would have to depart Hamilton at 12pm. Travel time is about 20 minutes in each direction.

  13. Do you think theres enough time for me to take the earliest morning ferry to St George on Wed or Thurs and still get back to dockyard by 1pm? I have an excursion on Wed and Thurs that leaves at 1:30PM from the dockyard but trying to figure out what to do from 9am-1pm

The first NCL trip departs the Dockyard at 9am on Wed & Thurs. The first ferry that departs St George's departs at 10:15am, the second at12:45pm. So no. Same for the public ferry.. You could try a taxi for the return but the time in SG would be short and the fare expensive.
