  1. CCL doesn't like you evidently. They are after the new cruiser, not repeaters. You are a repeater, so no Emails!

Probably not too far from the truth.

CCL knows you like their product, so its going to go after the secondary guest. One who may be a first timer or somebody who they feel might have interest in a booking of their own. In some cases sales probably don't realize some of these guests are repeats until they're told.

I booked my 4th CCL cruise 2 months ago. Prior to that, I was researching on Carnival's website, Priceline, and here every other day. I never received a call or email from them which surprised me. On the other hand, my mom was added to my Valor cruise several months ago and Carnival has called her a few times to see if she's interested in sailing the Pride.

Slightly off topic, but I think I'm selling myself up for an upsell call. I booked an inside guarantee cabin for my upcoming Victory cruise late March 2014. I've always booked balconies on my CCL cruises. That time period is an awesome time to cruise and they might push sales on some ships. I'm not counting on it, but if they don't call me for an upgrade, I'll be very surprised.

  2. Its probably beating a very dead horse at this point, but after the confrontation with the wife, I probably would have been very vocal with the guest services director (again). I'm pretty sure I'd have been furious. Pin his actions on his culture/ethics/attitude/etc... It was not appropriate. I'd rather not see them face to face under any circumstances for the rest of the cruise. Not even for an apology. Service my family's cabin when we're at dinner or off the ship. No interaction.

    I'd notify corperate for sure.

  3. It was a busy day today for Port of Miami.

    8 ships in port + a ferry.

    -Carnival Glory

    -RCI Vision of the Seas

    -Norwegian Sun

    -Norwegian Pearl

    -Norwegian Star

    -Disney Magic

    -Aida Bella

    -Oceana Regatta

    +Bimini Superfast.

Looking at the webcam, ships are still lingering at the port. I suspect they are a little short on pilots for all the ships tonight.

  4. Somebody mentioned a steakhouse.

Just a heads up, the Victory does not have the steakhouse. Unfortunately, this ship has few choices for dining.

OP, I was actually looking at the Sky for a Bahamas cruise next spring, but decided on Victory because of price and increasing my return customer level. It looked like a very nice ship/itinerary, so I'm very interested in what you have to say about your Victory trip when you return.

  5. I have not sailed Conquest, but I have sailed on Glory. It was a nice ship (though I still prefer Liberty, of that class).

From what I've gathered, only real difference is Conquest has no Serenity Deck. Conquest is one year older than Glory. Decor is a little different, though essentially the same. I haven't sailed with either of the CDs that will be staffed when you cruise.

  6. I cannot imagine being in the shoes of someone who is unable to contact home or a loved one after such a devastating event.

I'm sure donating to the red cross is good, but also tipping additional will help as well. The Red Cross might assist with basic needs, but the families of crew members will need to rebuild their lives as well.

  7. People don't take formal nights too seriously on Carnival. Khakis and a polos are fine in the dining rooms on formal night. Some people are still seated wearing t-shirts and jeans. Carnival themselves seem pretty relaxed about it as well.

I don't really have any input for the kids stuff, but if they're younger, I always see good reviews or mentioning of Camp Carnival. The kids club rooms look pretty decent on ships that I've seen.

  8. From what I read, it seems Carnival could put a little more effort into M&Gs.

Honestly though, I haven't really signed up for or attended any. I enjoy meeting new people and being social. I do enjoy bumping into CC members while on my cruise, but I always forget or find myself distracted by something else.

  9. Deck 9 (Lido) is one deck above the bridge. This is my favorite forward deck because of the two wings overhanging each side of the ship. Picture is from Carnival Valor, which should be very similar.

    PICTURE

Very true. Seeing the side of the ship from the bridge wings is cool at night.

Deck 6 and 7 are better for stargazing, I've found.

  10. didnt realize it was dark at night there. Have to give it a try

Its VERY dark (no forward lighting for navigation, all forward-facing cabins must have curtains shut, no flashlights). Be very careful at first, because its difficult to see when you first step out. Once you're out there, your eyes adjust, and you see all the stars, its worth it! One of the main reasons I book forward cabins.

  11. I really like sailing out of Miami. Sailing past the hwy as people in convertibles wave/cheer to you. Some of the cars are pretty exotic. Sailing past South Beach. I'd like every cruise sail away to be like Miami's

I haven't sailed from Carnival's Port Everglades Terminal, but I'll tell you Terminal 29 is less a terminal and more a warehouse. Thankfully I don't think that one is used as much, by any company.

The ONLY thing I don't like about Port of Miami is flying into MIA. I don't mind the airport, but the flights are ridiculously expensive. You can fly into FLL and taxi while still spending much less than flying into MIA. Depending on traffic, Port of Miami is about 30-45 mins from FLL.

  12. I've sailed only with CCL and RCI so far. The RCI ship (Independence of the Seas) was awesome! Service and food were meh'. What I paid for an inside cabin on that cruise though could have easily bought me a balcony cabin on a CCL ship. Thats mostly why I've sailed CCL. I cannot beat the pricing. The large majority of their staff are excellent too, and seem to be more engaging. Conquest Class ships are going to start feeling like home away from home.

That said... I will be trying other lines. I really, really, want to try the Norwegian Epic. I'm a little disappointed though, that it'll sail only Western Caribbean once Getaway goes into service.

  13. I vote no on this one..

Trust me, as a government worker - we would let them sail BECAUSE it would give us a chance to pick them up.

Whenever I read about this, its always people getting caught coming back. I guess they have nowhere to go once on board after the last port. If they wanted to (or we're really that bent), they could probably skip out at an international port, but I have yet to read of that happening.

I'd really like to read some (accurate) stories of how these people are getting kicked-off/banned.

  14. IF Freedom gets upgraded Waterworks in the same fashion as Sunshine, I will be missing that aft pool. I do not look forward to having one pool on a ship (I doubt the one under the current slide would stick around as well). I also hope they'll forgo the interior Waterworks haha.. j/k.

The Conquest Class ships could use a little more "cool stuff" topside. Seeing the Glory next to Breeze was a little underwhelming.

  15. I mostly give additional tip if the person interacts with me like a good friend. I also show my appreciation when they go out of their way to help me. (7 funnel cup drinks on sail away, from 3 decks below). Also, I'll tip extra if I get the impression somebody is having a rough day (as long as they're not giving me attitude).

Most of the time, additional tip is face to face cash, though I have left cash behind for stewards.
