  1. There is only one ship where I've liked the Joe Farcus, design, which is Liberty. Victory isn't bad either I suppose. Of the ships I've cruised, I disliked Glory the most.

Being totally honest, while I'm not a fan of the designs, they're very photogenic.

  2. Princess has had a ship in the China market for at least a year or more now and is bringing a new ship there this year. Costa is also sending a ship to China this year.

Since they are under the Carnival umbrella, perhaps Carnival does not want to compete with them yet until they can see that there is a real need for ships to enter the China market.

It seems like Carnival is taking the same approach as it is in Europe. They have so many brands there that they sure staying away and concentrating on the Caribbean market during the summer while the other brands go there.

That has been their approach in the past. Then they looked like they would deviate, now they are backing off some. Makes you wonder why.

I agree. Competing with yourself can cause headaches (see GM).

I'm still not sure that Carnival would really be a good fit for the region. I just don't see the Chinese being particularly interested in Carnival ships and their offerings. Could you imagine sending Carnival Valor over there? haha. I think CCL might have better success with South Korea or even Japan over China.

Thinking about Chinese coming over here, I have noticed in John Heald's "who's sailing with us posts" that there have been very little, if no Chinese guests on ships in the caribbean. Other Asian countries have had more attendance.

  3. Still think it is strange that Carnival is sending two older ships and competition is putting new ships there.

Royal is the only line in Carnival's realm dedicating some of its latest builds to the Asian market longer-term. Princess' date=' Celebrity, Costa, etc are there with older ships as well. Spirit Class ships are good for market entry, and Splendor is the oddball in the fleet (and is coming up on it's dry dock). The two best candidates to go.

It's already been announced that the Miracle and Splendor are going to Asia. And I dare say the Vista's sister ship in 2018 will be heading that way.

A good possibility, but I suspect Texas will get the second Vista Class (hopefully giving Liberty back to the East Coast )

  4. Supposedly booking the ships will be done through Costa, or so I've read. Perhaps they will have it separate like Australian cruises. They haven't said much about it.

In Splendor's case, I believe they're waiting on word for the date the widening of the Panama Canal will be completed. The ship had to sail around South America to get to/from the West Coast previously.

It has been said that cruises from China will only be open to people who live there and EVERYTHING on the ship will be in Chinese.

    Where was that mentioned?

I'd find it a little hard to believe they wouldn't advertise at least some over here or abroad. While China would (of course) be the focus, I can't imagine them limiting it to Chinese only.
