I heard someone here in Nashville say "Fear is also a virus." Cool heads, kind hearts folks. We will get through this but only TOGETHER.

This talk about "doctors notes" makes little sense and could even be dangerous. At this time, a good place to avoid is a physician's office as your chance of being exposed to illness, including COVID-19, are increased by simply being in a waiting room. And in the USA, a physician would have to be nutz to clear any Senior to travel since that would open them up to potential liability given a lot of expert advice that seniors immediately implement social distancing. Both Princess and Viking have made this issue moot by simply ceasing all operations until May. This sets up another situation where Lawyers can later argue that lines that continue to operate are being reckless in the face of a an expanding pandemic. You can bet that this is being discussed in the executive suites off all the lines that continue to operate.

Lucky if quarantined in the stateroom only...and not 14 days in a military camp following debarkation.... return home on your dime, because Gov. And cruise line won't pay for it anymore after issuing cruise ship travel advise for all...
So, unless a non anticipated miracle happens,.....we will gracefully decline any potential invitation to explore the facilities at any military camp in the aftermath of a questionable cruise / ports experience...

Read this and decided we should cancel since we're in our 70's and have diabetes and asthma. Then I looked at HAL's prices on our same cruise for next year and they have doubled the price! Has anyone else seen the same thing?
Not seen it, because not researched, but certainly not surprised.. The ethical conduct is: honor same price on identical rebooking.... Hahaha....

We ( 2) are going to be on RCCL ALLURE sailing out of Miami on February 17.
On Febr. 20., we dock at COZUMEL with potentially approximately 9 hours net on shore.
On that day, we look forward to our 3rd visit (day pass $55, p.p.) at NACHI COCOM, an exclusive , quiet, private resort for a relaxing, all inclusive beach day. We plan to leave the ship fairly early, (we are supposedly the first ship in port, ) to get a prime spot at the resort before passengers from the 3 other ships arrive in port.
The taxi ride to the 9 km distant resort is $17 for up to 4 people or $19 for 6 people. That amount is not per person, but per taxi.
We are interested to hear from fellow passengers or crew/officers interested in sharing the taxi ride going to the same resort or to near by ones, as the taxi fares are identical.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. I just booked another solo cruise myself today. The only problem with booking solo is once you start going solo you may never want to take anyone with you again!
hahaha..... you just got it.... good for you.... congratulations.:cool:

we were there today. Pretty empty, even with three ships in. Two chairs and an umbrella was $20. Everything is new. Loungers are very comfortable. I posted photos on my blog, along with their menu, here:

bikini beach bar on orient beach (one of the five stars) recently reopened -
from what i've heard work is also being done on kon-tiki and kakao with openings expected in time for the high season this winter
also several smaller beach bars open and renting chairs - chez leandra has a kitchen and renting chairs - perch lite is open past the rocks by pedro's
we have visited for extended vacations several times - will be on a cruise stop this november and absolutely plan to go to orient beach - my only holdup was making sure there are adequate bathrooms - assume with a fully functional restaurant and bar now open that there are
is it the same as pre-irma - certainly not... But i will still be there

good advise

The Club Med La Caravelle in Guadeloupe is an all-inclusive resort, about a half hour from the cruise ship port in the town of Sainte-Anne. When we disembarked the ship, we faced what we had dreaded…a massive downpour and thunderstorm. Thankfully, the clouds dissipated as we drove to the Club Med Guadeloupe and by the time we arrived, it was a bright and sunny day.

reminderST. KITTS ... NERVAOriginally posted by jbikerWe will be in St. Kitts in January. We have done Carambola in the past and looking for a change. We are looking for a beautiful stretch of beach, less crowded the better with some chairs and a nice bar. Which would you choose and why? thanks in advance!
St Kitts beaches are now overrun by of T'erds and Babylon.
Discerning cruisers now go to Sunshine's on Nevis.
Contact them, to join a possible shared shuttle.
There are those who have, and those who have Yachts.

Personal choice would be Shipwreck.
Reasonable prices for food and drink.
Reggae is fine but tends to be crowded if several cruise ships are in port.

I found Dickenson's Bay to be calm and clearer than Jolly or VCB. Maybe not as quiet though as it can be more active.

at any point during the meal, tell your table mates that it was lovely meeting them. Wish them a wonderful cruise, stand up from the table and say goodbye. It’s polite and that’s all that needs to be said. You owe them nothing except to be polite about your departure. Politeness is what’s expected.

Great list and a good place to start for all solos, men or women.
Then adjust the list to your own tastes and/or ports of call.
I second all of this wholeheartedly...
73 yrs old female traveling solo, backpacking still, throughout South America, i.e. sailing on freighters the entire Amazon river from Pucallpa to Belem, Asia, Europe ...never had a problem... may be once an attempt, 2 years ago in Chengdu China, when a young man approached me at the railroad ticket purchase counter offering his FULL services while accompanying me on my travels.....got rid of him fast....
just behave sensibly, are observant and e n j o y ........

reading through this thread, it seems that depending on the particular sailing the afore mentioned solo issue becomes applicable...
my personal experience with MSC, (3 cruises) 2 Solo, and 1 genuine no show of 2nd person at embarkation.
Most recent, yesterday....I booked MSC 2 cabins balcony, (1 double, 1 solo) no problem ... the issue did not come up.
Furthermore, I sailed on all major cruise lines totalling about 60 sailings, most of them solo....never had the issue coming up....rarely paid as much as double for single occupancy. However, i have experienced during research with a variety of cruise lines, that certain sailings appear to disallow the booking of specific solo sailings. So, it helps to have flexibility allowing avoidance of such sailing prohibiting solo bookings.

Sailed both repeatedly...prefer the Sun, no question...basic infrastructures are the same on both....Sun is much quieter, less indulgent parents permitting obnoxious child behaviors, in general a more sophisticated passenger on the Sun.
Same likely applies for Cuba cruise versus Western Caribbean on Getaway
