Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Is that your belief or have you actually tried it? At least on NCL, the “intranet” as you refer to it does connect to the outside world allowing access to a limited number of sites (NCL, CruiseCritic). The in-app messaging in NCL runs off servers in Miami not on ship. iMessage works on the NCL “intranet”. Facebook Messenger does not work.
  2. I tried doing a search but could find an answer. On another cruise line, I was able to use Apple iMessage on the free guest wifi (without using any internet package). Does this also work on Celebrity, and specifically on Equinox. I DO have “free minutes” with Elite but would rather not use them to iMessage family at home if not necessary.
  3. They still take connection time into account when booking.
  4. I have found that most major airports include this detail on their website. Some carriers also include similar information on their website.
  5. https://www.admtl.com/en/guide/connecting-flights If connecting to an international (non-US) flight, your bags are checked through and you do not go through security. You will need to show your boarding pass to enter the International departure area.
  6. Before you leave Canada: - install the Europe data-only esim following directions of the provider - activate Wifi-calling on your Canadian plan - on the Canadian plan, remove the “automatic” choice of network and set it specifically to your provider. THIS IS IMPORTANT When in Europe: - go off Airplane mode and have BOTH cell plans (Europe eSIM and Canadian sim/esim) active. Since your Canada plan is unable to acquire a cell signal, it will activate wifi-calling using the Europe eSIM.
  7. I am in Europe now and can confirm that this works. I have a data-only Esim and can make/receive calls using my Rogers phone number over that data. Key seems to be the info from @Messybill to lock your home cell account to the Home Service Provider before leaving Canada. I have my Roger’s SIM enabled in Europe but it will not connect (and thus not get charged) to the cell network. As far as the phone is concerned, it is out of range of cell coverage, so everything routes over the data eSIM.
  8. My question was specific to a data-only eSIM which does not have an associated phone number.
  9. I was hoping that “WiFi calling” is a general term for “use whatever data connection is available if there is no cell connection” so that it would work over a foreign data-only eSIM when not in the presence of wifi (for example while driving).
  10. Has anybody tried using a data-only eSIM and wifi calling in a foreign country to make/receive calls on their Canadian phone number? The implication is that this is done without any roaming charges (either voice or data) on the Canadian plan.
  11. Correct. If you declare that you are not over your personal exemption but really are, and are caught by an inspection, you will likely forfeit NEXUS.
  12. I have used Rogers “Roam like home” in the US including while in Miami in port. You may need to move around the ship to get a good signal.
  13. You are correct. NCL should now remove the Canada-specific section now as it just leads to confusion by saying “all dropped”.
