  1. I have to say, I have never looked at the name of the ship when I've booked a cruise. A ship is a ship. They are all so similar as to be practically identical from the standpoint of the vacation experience.

Before our last cruise, a B2B on the Glory and Breeze in June/July, I had to develop a mnemonic to help me remember the name of each ship in the months before the cruise.

Itinerary catches me first, then the port it leaves from and then the ship. I must admit that i'd probably go for the bigger and/or newer ship if they happen to have the same itinerary. The Breeze had a nice itinerary, I love leaving from Miami and it was the newest ship so it was a win, win, WIN for me.

Sorry for being so defensive. I guess I am so use to people on this board flaming posters that disagree with them that I thought that you and the OP were giving me a hard time.

Also, I will admit that both me and DW were both a little under the weather while on our Breeze cruise so that definitely took away from the enjoyment of the ship. We would sail her again if we see an itinerary that we like.

    Happy sailing to everyone!

Apology accepted!!! And believe me, I know how this board can be.

Oh no! I'm sorry that you were under the weather during that time. That can dampen any cruise. Here's to good health on our future cruises......possibly Carnival Vista :D!!!

  2. I always cruise for ports, not the ship. Even though I love the Freedom, we booked it a 2nd time because we had a couple who were new to cruising with us so we wanted them to experience the same ports we had the year before.

That said, I never said that I didn't like the Breeze, it's just not my favorite ship. It's okay to say that right (sometimes I wonder)? There are LOTS of things to do on the ship but many of those things are things that we personally are not interested in so we were not all "ga ga" over the ship. However, we enjoyed the Sea Day bbq and Guys and the Blue Iguana but we didn't like the large crowds and all the kids running around unsupervised. Again, that is a personal preference and the OP asked for opinions so I gave mine. This is America right? People still have the right to disagree with the majority right? Maybe I should have left out the part about society being in love with newer, but I think that is why a lot of people are so in love with the Breeze.

OP, any day on a cruise is a great day so whatever choice you make will be the right choice. All of Carnival's ships are beautiful (again, my opinion) so you can't go wrong. :) You see, I did not leave "your" thread. Thanks for listening to ALL opinions. :)

I honestly think Freedom is my favorite ship, thus far. But, the only reason why I asked why you booked Breeze was just out of curiosity. You and I have both sailed it so it's easier for us to choose a different ship (-vs- Breeze) from the ones OP is debating about. No need to get defensive...I appreciate when someone doesn't follow the rest of the crowd and gives an honest opinion.

You're probably right about a lot of people wanting to cruise Breeze just because it's new, but all of the great reviews give it a big boost as well.

Side note - I'm glad that you didn't leave this thread too :).

OP - Be sure to come back and tell us which ship you chose. Good luck!

  3. I just don't get all this love for the Breeze. To me the Freedom and Conquest were much more enjoyable ships to sail on than the Breeze; then again, I just LOVE the Freedom and my recent Conquest cruise was the best I've ever been on.

Society just seems to have this "newer means better" philosophy about everything when in reality that is not always the case.

I mean, the Breeze was "ok" but what about it would make you want to go on a boring itinerary just to say that you've sailed on it?

My advice is, if you like all the "Bells and whistles" and a crowded ship, go with the Breeze. If you like a smaller, less congested trip, go with a ship with a better itinerary.

Give me a great itinerary over a newer ship ANYDAY; especially an itinerary with ports that are new to me. However, to each his/her own.

You "don't get all this love for Breeze", but i see that you've sailed on it. The OP has not, so that's why they're asking for the boards opinion. May I ask what made you book the Breeze in the first place? I booked because I loved the fact that it was Breeze AND it had a great itinerary....taking me to ports that I've never visited.

  4. Is the Breeze worth taking over a longer trip with a better itinerary just to experience it?

I cannot afford an 8-day on her. Already worked the #s every witch way. So the only other option is a 6 day to Falmouth, Grand Cayman, Cozumel. Never been to Falmouth but we have been to Montego Bay and Ochos Rios. Been to Grand Cayman and Cozumel before. Really enjoyed Cozumel.

However, there are sailings out there on both the Conquest and Glory that include St. Maarten, St. Kitts, HMC, Grand Turk - none of which I've been to. I've never been on the Conquest or the Glory but have been on the Freedom and loved it. Conquest would be 8 days. Glory 7 days. This is for next Summer. Which one would you choose and why? Breeze no matter what?

    TIA!

If it were MY decision, I would choose Conquest because it's 8 days and I've never been to St. Kitts or HMC. But because I've already experienced Breeze, it's an easy decision.

Now, if I were in your shoes (pretending i've never been on Breeze)......I'd probably be :( that my cruise is short, but I would choose Breeze just because it IS the Breeze. That was my goal the last time we booked, to experience Breeze because she sounded and looked like a FABULOUS ship.....and she was :D.

  5. As these ships have a Guy's Burger and well that is what I am more interested in. Serenity deck I never found it on the Ecstasy - I was quite lost :) so would be nice to at least find it this time around lol

So far the 8 day because of an extra day of not being at work seems to be great advantage :)

Guy's Burger (and their fries) was SO delicious. I ate there 3 times during my last cruise and had to force myself to stay away. As for serenity, when you decide which ship you're booking...print out the deck plans and you'll be all set.

Go ahead and book that 8-day!!!! Happy planning!!!

  6. Glory 7 dayer Vs Conquest 8 dayer

    Good morning yall,

I am looking for some recommendations - I know opinions are individual based and will eventually have to make a choice but looking to see what others have to say.

My first cruise was on the Ecstasy April 2013, ports were HMC(loved); Nassau & Freeport.

The cruises I am looking at are both in May 2015:

Glory 7dayer: HMC(again); St Thomas; Puerto Rico, Grand Turk

Conquest 8dayer: St Maarten; St Kitts; Puerto Rico & Grand Turk

Looking for opinions on the boats themselves; the ports.

I am leaning towards the 7 dayer because of HMC - but that may be a little bias because I have been there already and love it.

    thanks.

Do both ships leave from the same place? Depending on where you live, maybe one is cheaper for you to fly too (if you have to drive).

I always try to aim for ports I've never been too.

I've never been on either ship, but I have been on a few of the conquest class ships. I can't give you my opinions on the ships themselves but I assume they are basically the same.

If it were my decision, I would choose the 8-day because of that extra day to be spoiled :D.

Wow....they are adding a lot. I hope to sail her again after these additions.

  8. I don't think so. The Cape Canaveral port has signs all over about no pictures. I didn't see any signs in Miami, so I pulled my camera out and got in trouble. lol

LOL!!! Guess I have to look around port everglades' terminal before I pull my camera out at my next cruise. I don't want to get in trouble :p.

  9. I just bought an international text package(AT&T) and my question to my CC friends is: Can I text from my balcony in port or do I have to get off ship? AT&T rep thinks I can text from my balcony without additional charges. But we will be on the Dream with stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman & Montego Bay.

I am an AT&T user as well and my experience has been that all text messages that I received were free (as long as they're texting from the US and you have unlimited texting) no matter if you're on the ship/out at sea or in port. When I purchased the international text package, I waited to send texts when the phone would read whatever island we were visiting. If you send a text whenever your phone says "cellular at sea", it will charge you $0.50/message sent. So, if you're sitting on your balcony at port and it reads "cellular at sea", i wouldn't text. Try walking out to the open deck and hopefully the phone will pick up the islands tower IF you have to, but I think you will be okay.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  10. I understand what an aft balcony cabin is, but what is a cove balcony? I'm trying to decide which balcony cabin to book, but I've never cruised before and don't know a lot about it. Thanks!

Great descriptions above and plenty of pictures on Google and videos on YouTube. I took a video of our cove balcony in the very last link of my signature for Breeze. Check it out if you'd like. I loved it!

  11. Well, I'll add my thoughts, even though I firmly believe that all ships and food are very subjective!

I don't feel that you can compare Oasis/Allure to any other ship in the world. I wouldn't worry about it being too big---a lot of us that have been on her don't feel that way. We also found the food to be better on RC, but, again, I feel that is subjective and it all depends on what you like. Not everyone is going to like everything.

Hubby and I had only sailed Carnival for years, until we had some friends invite us to sail on Oasis with them. That was in 2011 and we have not been back to Carnival since. We absolutely LOVED Oasis and just RC in general!

We loved it being a big ship and having a huge variety of things to do in the evenings. We like shows, but you can only see so many comedians and music shows on Carnival. We love the Aqua Theater and the shows there, along with the ice skating show. You will also find different game shows on RC, which can be down right gut-busting if they have the right people participating. That's all I will give away on that. :)

I think you made the right choice since you are wanting to try her. You will never know unless you sail on her for yourself.

Out of all the cruise lines and ships we've been on now, Oasis is still our favorite!!

And my excitement is growing even more........:D

  12. I had the same feeling but to our surprise it was unbelievably amazing in every aspect. I thought having to book the entertainment beforehand was odd, but it actually worked out well. Since we had a plan we had something to look forward to. If you can't make your reservation, someone else will gladly sit in your seats. Try the donuts on the Boardwalk (morning only). Very yummy...... We loved the Allure so much we're going on the Oasis in May!:D

I think that I like the idea of booking entertainment beforehand. It guarantees us a spot. All the pics and reviews that I've seen, Oasis & Allure look amazing.....just gorgeous. Mmmmm.....donuts :D. You're building up my excitement even more.

  13. You've got me beat!

Hahaha....i know, but I still have another one booked that's OVER 500 days  The countdowns get exciting when you drop from 3 digits, to 2 digits and finally the single digits. Woohoo!

In the meantime, we just have to enjoy reading everyone else's reviews to past time away.
