  1.

There is a marketing rule originally coined for the automotive industry that "you can sell a young person's car to an old man, but you can't sell an old man's car to anyone " Frankly this is universally true and that includes the cruise industry . Why would they accurately represent their actual customer base ? You may protest but as a society we all prefer younger and prettier .

I don't know a lot of young person's cars I would want, but I know of a whole lot of old men's cars I'd love to have.

  2. I don't think there is the slightest correlation. I'm against this but have honestly never complained about one single thing on any cruise. I know people that complain about anything, I don't see anything in the way they dress that plays a part in that. I guess you have the traditionalists like me and my wife still only in our 40/50s who loved everything about cruising 20 years ago and are sick of one standard after another being watered down and others who are either newer to cruising or not really interested in the traditions. It's all about profits, packing more and more people into mega ships, and up selling. But hey I know that's how it's going and nothing will change that. Just think it's sad when even on here you have someone post something that's very fair and a reply is a snide " ta ta" sort of sums a lot up for me.

Sorry that was too strong for you. It was meant to say goodbye to one who is going on a fabulous Seabourn 24 day cruise with his tux and we are stuck with Celebrity that is "morfing into Carnival".

He stated he was "moving on". I am impressed.

  3. I also just received this email. If you click on the link that says learn more, it still list the number of formal nights by length of the cruise.

    Per the email:

    Evening Chic evolutions include

Sipping destination-inspired drinks at the new Captains Reception

Rubbing elbows with Senior Officers (including the Captain) at new officer hosted tables

Glamming it up with a spa makeover (Facebook profile update check!)

Evening Chic sailing departing December 4 and beyond.

So, what does this mean??? DW just bought a new dress for formal night on our upcoming Dec 6 sailing.

Take the dress back and get something useful.:D

  4. Well, you may get your way. I read somewhere on the board that Rich Clesen either got off last cruise, or will be getting off at the end of the current cruise. That's too bad because I was looking forward to having him on the cruise next week. Maybe I'll find out Sunday that they transferred Ken Mills to some other ship.

    P.S. Loved Sue ;)

Rich is supposed to be on the Silhouette in two weeks. If he's half as good as Richard Spacey, I'll be very happy.

  5. Would anyone have a brief description of the bands on the Silhouette (style of music-- for example, one of the groups is clearly jazz by their name but could be anything from smooth jazz to be-bop, and the dj could be playing anything from electronica to country) and their impressions of how good they were? Thanks in advance!

Google "The Spitfires Party Band". Pretty good.
