  1. I second this. I was on Deck 7 on the Silhouette and the Hideaway was great for a quick cup of tea or coffee, as well as just reading early in the morning. I am booked in the same location on my upcoming cruise on the Reflection.

But if you're on Deck 6, it's only one deck above to get to the Hideaway:rolleyes:

Hi there. Was hoping to get some feedback. Husband and I were planning on going on either of these cruises in March. Now my college daughter 20 and my other daughter 23 want to tag along. We are going on the youngest daughter spring break from college. I know that this isn't going to be a "wild" spring break cruise but was wondering between the 2 ships which one is better. The Reflection got rid of their dance club but they still have it on Silhoutte. Which entertainment is better between these 2 ships? Don't say to go on Rccl we our diamond members and wanted a change. We have been on Allure and Oasis twice each and wanted to try something different. Hoping that there are other families that will be brining their college age kids too. Again we are going mid March

If you like activities and excitement, you're in for a letdown after the Oasis and Allure.

  3. hi i have got classic drinks package can i upgrade to premium package once i get on ship as we go saturday

Yes--anytime before your last 3 days.

You pay the premium price on a daily basis.

Any bar can do it for you.

  4. Thank you for giving us a fun, in-depth look at your cruise, and for writing it up beautifully, with such great photos.

I'll be on the same ship and same itinerary in December and I'll be revisiting your posts lots between now and then.

Also: I keep telling myself I'm going to stick with that Classic Beverage Package they gave us, 'cause really, do I need the frou-frou?......but your martini photos and French Caribbean descriptions have tempted me.

If I do upgrade, you should get a commission!

    Ellen

If you don't drink the good beers and the real Martinis at the Martini Bar, you

can get by with the Classic.

  5. DW and I are 57 and 60 and like the opening post, we love the nightlife, especially dancing. We were on the Silhouette in February and found the house band (the lead singer was a blonde, English woman) to be one of the best I've seen on seven cruises. The Skyview Lounge was really lively every night, except the nights when the main entertainment was in the main lobby (a special Valentine's Day event when they only played slow songs - quite romantic, and a 70s disco night featuring the ship performers).

Most of the music they played was for the babyboomers - Motown, Beatles, early rock and roll, 70s classics. Most importantly, they played it well.

The mainstage productions were fabulous, better than usual. They also had two very good comedians and the most original (and funny) ventriloquist act I've ever seen. I can't specifically remember the other acts, only that DW and I really enjoyed them. We were on the Eclipse in 2013 and this was much better.

I seem to recall that the very excellent cruise director was an Englishman named Richard (I think) who was funny enough to be a comedian in his own right.

We did notice there wasn't an acapela group or classical trio this time, which would've been nice.

That would be Richard Spacey--THE best CD IMHO. He makes the cruise.

  6. Thanks OP for this great post! So many people seem to think Celebrity is deliberately trying to be difficult by not posting a definitive list of what cocktails are available under the Classic Beverage Package; as you noted the reality is just that there are infinite varieties of drinks, both "named" drinks like Margaritas and concoctions you yourself dreamed up that have yet to become famous.

If a Long Island Iced Tea (which is my favorite) is included under the Classic Package then one can tell its not just one liquor drinks like gin and tonic. When in doubt just ask the bartender.

And I wonder if the foul tasting red drink you were offered featured Campari. There aren't many spirits I won't drink but one sip of Campari made the short list....

  7. I don't know what you mean with "very premium coffee drinks", but if you're talking about Irish Coffee, Cuban Coffee and other coffee's with alcohol...this should be covered by the classic package. We never had a problem getting them from cafe al bacio...

These would be coffees with liquors from the premium list.

  8. Are you particular which brand of alcohol or wine? Or is the house brand ok with you?

Is your drink of choice a martini?

If you're ok with the house brands and don't drink Martinis the classic package is fine.

And don't forget the beers--If you can get by with the yellow, fizzy stuff--classic works. If you enjoy the world of craft beers--and the Sil usually has many--premium.

  9. I read this quote (above) and then I read others that say practically any cocktail can be ordered as long as it is not premium liquor. Which is it?

Probably talking about their fancy drinks menu.

Yes--most "regular " cocktails are included under the classic, as long as you don't specify a premium liquor.

  10. I totally disagree. I have seen the lists posted by others on Cruise Critic; alcohol brands and types are numerous. Only a very few additions to the brands are on Premium. Wines and Beers are where the Premium package may warrant and upgrade. Ask for your favorite mixed adult beverage and a Brand name of alcohol. Pay for a beer that is not listed on Classic like Stella Artois. Price for upgrading is $11.80 per day and you can wait until mid-cruise to upgrade.

Another review was done recently on this Cruise Critic general thread and pictures were posted of the various lists. She stuck to the Classic Package. Enjoy your cruise.

I would say there are quite a few premium brands. If all they had beerwise on the premium list was Stella, I would stay on classic, but the very nice stock of craft beers does make it a "no brainer" for me to upgrade.

It's also nice to go to the Martini bar, which we frequent nightly before dinner, and not worry about trying to order a small martini to make the classic package fit, etc.

  11. For us it was worth the upgrade. No worries about cost once we got on board, no thinking about "is this in my package?" and freedom to get the wonderful alcoholic coffees at Cafe Al Bacio!

You can get the coffees with the classic package.

  12. Bravo....couldn't have said it better myself.

Paragraph 2 -- replace 'same for suites' with 'same for balconies'. If we cannot get a balcony for a good price, we are happy enough to be in an inside or oceanview. The post can call it penny pinching if they want -- I would call it living within our means.

Ditto! We can definitely afford it, but I won't let myself be a fool. I remember the good old days when the SR's were $20. That was reasonable.
