1. better check before assuming... Here is your ticket contract

Any and all forms of smoking, including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, electronic cigarettes, and personal vaporizers, are strictly prohibited onboard except in designated exterior open deck areas, certain night clubs, and designated areas in the casino. All staterooms and suite accommodations are entirely smoke free, including the outside balcony (Effective October 9, 2014). Guest agrees to strictly comply with Carnival’s non-smoking policy. Guest further acknowledges and agrees that any violation of this policy shall, in the sole discretion of Carnival, constitute a material breach of this cruise contract. In the event of such breach, Guest forfeits all rights hereunder, including the right to remain on board. Carnival reserves the right to disembark the Guest(s), at any port, as determined by Carnival. Carnival shall not be liable for any refund or other compensation or damages whatsoever to any Guest disembarked pursuant to this provision, or who disembarks because another Guest is so disembarked, and all such Guests forfeit all rights under Carnival’s “Vacation Guarantee.” Guest and Carnival further agree that any violation of the non-smoking policy would also cause Carnival to incur damages, including but not limited to, loss of guest goodwill, revenue, cleaning, maintenance and/or other costs. Guest and Carnival expressly acknowledge the difficulty of ascertaining the amount of such damages, and therefore agree that a reasonable estimate of the damages for any violation of the non-smoking policy is $250 USD. Guest authorizes a charge in this amount as liquidated damages, as well as repatriation expenses (including airfare) against Guest’s on board charge account, without further notice, for any violation of the non-smoking policy.

any violation. you dont think the violation on the first day will be the same violation on the 3rd day do you?

what I wrote is 100% accurate according to your ticket contract

The contract also says anyone caught attempting to smuggle can be removed from the ship as well. Anyone hear of that ever happening? Just because it's in the contract doesn't mean Carnival will enforce it.

  2. If I experience someone smoking on our next cruise on their balcony, I'll be down at guest services, or calling security. Princess does not allow it and people do not smoke on their balcony. I've seen people vaping but not smoking a cigarette. A yell out that it's a $250 fine for smoking on their balcony usually sends them inside their cabin.

If the smoker was smart they would just sit back in the corner of the balcony instead of hanging over the edge and no one would know which balcony was the offending balcony. If someone is going to break the rules they should at least be smart about it. ;)

  3.
Why is there a need to understand the thread, and not just take it for what it is? A person expressing their opinion, and others agreeing, or disagreeing.

Your belief that it is very generous is not necessarily agreed upon by all, but that is your opinion (and I can respect that).

Just because someone thinks something could be better if tweaked, it does not mean that people don't like the product as a whole. So why would these travelers need to go to another line?
And I'm just sharing my opinion as well.

Other lines (such as RCCL) have no limit which should put a smile on the alcoholic's face (if they can manage to smile after more than 15 drinks).
  4. Carnival needs to change their CHEERS package from 15 drinks to unlimited. Too much competition with other lines like Norwegian, MSC that are offering unlimited. I don't mind paying but I don't want to worry about the limit of drinks I had.

I really don't understand these types of threads. Does anyone truly think a thread here will impact how any business does business? Carnival will do what they want (and personally I think 15 drinks on the Cheers package is very generous except for the most severe alcoholic) and if someone is unhappy with how Carnival does business, there are other lines to go to. Don't worry, someone will be standing behind those that leave to take their places.

  5. There is a big difference between saltwater pools and pools with salt water generators(SWG). You need to be close to the ocean to have a saltwater pool which has 35,000 ppm of salt. A pool with a salt water system is < 3,500 ppm of salt (10x less salt).

One reason pools with SWG are less irratating to your eyes is because our eyes salanity is close to those levels. In the Ocean you might be irratated because of high levels of salt.

I have been on 4 different cruise lines (US) and all the main pools were saltwater. Only the hot tubs were fresh water.

The only fresh water pool I've seen was on Princess (1 fresh, 1 salt). All of the Carnival, NCL, RCCL, and Hal ships I have been on had salt water.

  6. You can call as many times as you like you will receive the same answer. I never book early saver because of the penalties. i always book past passenger, it may cost me a couple of more bucks but as long as you are before final payment date you cancel with no penalty.Always read the contract so you know what your options are to cancel.

Completely pointless in this situation as OP is past final payment date.

  7. Izumi is a specialty Sushi restaurant and Sabor is a specialty Mexican restaurant. As mentioned in another post it was already noted that there is no Sabor on the Explorer.

That's okay as I'm sailing the Indy in Nov. It's just been 7 years since I've sailed RCCL and had never heard of these restaurants. Thanks for the info.

  8. Yes, it is ridiculous. We have a Grand Suite on the Allure and they want to charge me $2800 to add her. Really?! For a TWO YEAR OLD?!?! I would certainly pay $1000 and I am certain their costs for her cruising are well below 1K, but since the 3rd person price is so high and they make no consideration that she's a kid, we are not bringing her. So to me this is a dumb decision, they could've had some 3rd person revenue, but now are only getting 2 fares for the cabin.

As you state, she is 2 so how much 3rd person revenue are they going to get from her? It's not like they have the Ultimate Milk Package for her to buy.

  9. So in summary, everyone wants additional perks for their current level and/or easier access to the next level.

Great, in a perfect world we all get something for nothing. But realistically, Carnival is not likely to cut their profit margins. So what are you willing to give up to pay for these new perks you are getting?

(Let me guess, you'll give up something you don't personally use or get in order to fund this new thing which does benefit you. For me, that can be perks for the casino players, or perks for Diamond cruisers.)

Correction, some people (or maybe most people).

  10. That was a while ago and they were coming home. Carnival is held accountable if they permit someone onboard without proper documentation.

Yes it was a while ago but what I was trying to say is that my daughter flew on an expired passport while go TO Germany. It was not noticed until she attempted to fly back.

  11. Nope! An expired passport is not valid so cannot be used.

He should have a USA certificate of when he was adopted. That is the same as a birth certificate + driver's license.

Sad to not notice these things so close to sail date!

Not completely true. Depends on how well the agents look at it. When my kids ware young, my wife took the kids to Germany with her and only found out on the return flight that my daughter's passport had expired even before leaving for the trip. It took a little sweet talking on her part but my daughter was able to fly back home on that expired passport.

  12. Who has smoked a cigar on their balcony since the ban went into place? Have you been asked to stop? Did neighboring cabins complain? Did a member of the RCI staff address the issue?

I love to sit on my balcony and enjoy a cigar late at night. I don't want to disturb anyone. Is this actually causing a problem? Who's got first hand experience?

Doesn't matter as to whether it bothers anyone or not. Smoking a cigar on the balcony is a violation of the rules and is subject to severe penalties.

"Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom and any stateroom balcony. This applies to all stateroom categories onboard. If a guest is in violation of this stateroom policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to their SeaPass® account and may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy."

  13. I have been married for 13 years and have a 9 yo boy and 5 yo girl. I cannot remember the last time I used the bathroom at home with the door closed and alone - it's VERY VERY rare and usually between 10-11:30pm only. There is no better way to get my kids away from whatever they are doing than to try to sneak into a bathroom alone! Ha!

Just to point out - the sounds mentioned seem like they would be the same no matter if the door was solid or translucent?

Anyway - this would not stop our family of 4 at this time - although I could see it being a challenge with teenagers.

I have been married 27 years and have a 22 year old daughter and 20 year old son (who luckily both joined the military and left home at age 18). Even when they were small we closed the bathroom doors and they understood not to go in when the door was closed and followed that rule.

I have always found that the thicker material of a regular door and walls to be more sound proof than that of flimsy translucent plastic or glass. YMMV.

  14. Oh good. Let's continue to perpetuate the silliest of old wives tales. Now rhinovirus is created by changing temperatures. Brilliant....

And you received your HVAC engineering degree where?

Then again, it doesn't even matter as it is specifically stated at every balcony door to leave the door closed. The fact that RCCL (and others) says "Please" simply means they are just trying to be nice about it.......not that it is optional.

  15. Breaking the LAW? LOL!

If you have comprehend the post correctly, I stated law/rule breakers (the slash means either if you didn't know that) but in my opinion, most rule breakers are also the law breakers in the world because they believe rules/laws (that slash means either again) don't apply to them. So yes, the person who knowingly violates rules such as leaving their balcony door open (rule breaker) is most likely the same person driving 5-20 mph over the speed limit as well (law breaker).
