  1. I arranged an all-day tour for 8 off the Ruby P at Naples in Oct. with Rome In Limo. Raphael was our driver and one of the best we've ever had on a tour. First we visited Herculaneum where Maria was our personal guide (an excellent choice). Our next stop was Sorrento where we had free time and then Rapahel took us to a delightful restaurant for lunch. The service there was above and beyond! We had planned to return to Naples to visit the Archaeological Museum, but Raphael offered us the option of going to Positano instead so that's what we did. Raphael was a wonderful tour guide and entertained us with his singing, especially on our way back to Naples. We felt very well taken care of the entire day and would not hesitate to use RIL in the future.

  2. We will be on Liberty Of the Seas doing a T/A from Barcelona to Ft Lauderdale. We leave on October 27,2012. Was wondering who has done this T/A during Halloween & what activities were planned? Since this is a T/A, children will be at a minimum so what will be planned for all the fun adults on the cruise?:p

We were on a Mex Riviera cruise over Halloween several years ago. I was surprised how many people brought costumes. There were a lot of young adults, as it was a 7-day cruise. The Sapphire Princess' atrium was nicely decorated and there were decorations on all the bars. This year we'll be on the Ruby P TA over Halloween, which happens to be the first day of our six crossing the Atlantic. There will be a huge crowd of CCers onboard and we're having a private Halloween Party, costumes optional, but masks strongly encouraged. After all, we depart from Venice, known for its masks. :D

  3. We booked an EE Gty and were assigned the above cabin (E109). It looks as though the Promenade deck is right outside the cabin. Does that mean that when we are in the cabin and want to look out, people will be looking in?

They may try to look in, but there is reflective coating on all the windows on the Emerald deck of Princess ships. I knew it was on those like E109, but didn't realize they all had it until we were on the Grand last Jan. and the coating had flaked off in a few places. Thus, unless you have the lights on, neither crew working outside your cabin, not promenaders, can see inside your cabin.

  4. Hi Barb,

It's actually E701 that we were in, but 703 was OK, too. I noticed on the Princess web site on the deck plans, I think it's the Emerald that actually shows the outline of the white boxes outside the rooms. Don't know why it's not shown for the Crown and Ruby as it's most helpful.

    Kathy, thanks for correcting that.

  5. On a pic on this thread we have cabin #E633 category F on the Emerald showing a clear viiiew from the window whereas the cabin is listed as a "fully obstructed" cabin on the Princess website:confused:

When we were on the Crown last fall, I was invited by CC friends to see the view from their cabins--virtually unobstructed except perhaps for a cable. One was 633 and the other 703, near the big white box. The people in 633 had been upgraded from an inside so they were particularly ecstatic. :p The other couple had paid for an F cat and they were quite pleased as well. We could not figure out how Princess determines its categories on that deck! The main cabins to avoid as Max's excellent diagram shows are those behind the large boats used as tenders and the two behind the big white boxes--I could not believe how large those boxes were (could see them from 703). There's only only about 1-2 at the very top of them to let light into those four unfortunate cabins!

  6. Excellent picture, Max! Just what we need for our upcoming cruise. Thank you so much for posting this. Now if I can figure out a way to enlarge it and print it...:)

To do this, right click and then "save image" to your computer. Then you can view the image and enlarge it if you want (at least on a pc) and print it. The resolution isn't great, but you should still be able to read the cabin nos.

  7. Yikes,

That's not much....but at least we will be able to tell if there is interesting scenery and head out. Anyone on the Golden know best way - UP or down to get out and view something quickly?

The great thing about the Emerald deck is that it's only 1 deck from the doorways to the promenade on Deck. And Cabin 503 is very close to the mid-ship (atrium) stairs/elevators so it's real quick and easy to get outside if there's something to see.

  8. Do you think I could get a better view under Category F with E701 ... compared to E231 on the first page of this thread? I'm debating on whether or not to switch to E701. I think having the bed not under the window would be nice since it'd be easier to look out the window.

As I said earlier there is absolutely nothing outside E701 on the Crown; the bed is against the wall. I was also in E625 on the Crown and it only had a cable outside. If I had the chance I would book either. As the friend in E701 said--why does Princess give this cabin a lower category than other cabins on Emerald that have more outside the window??!!

  9. As promised, SunnyV and LAFFNVEGAS, I looked at these two on the Crown TA I was just on. For E701 there is nothing blocking the view whatsoever! For E631, there was just a small cable hanging down on one side. Both great buys, IMHO. I was also in E616 (seemed to have a lot of friends on Emerald :D). There was a boat outside that one. In all 3, the beds were against the wall, not under the window.

  10. I was just looking through my shots of the Crown from land last March and found this one pictures.cruisecritic.com/showphoto.php?photo=12271&cat=522

There is a white box a few cabins in front of the balcony cabins on Emerald. It must be outside E706, 708 and E705, 707 because they're Cat FF, not Cat F as are cabins E632, 633, 701. This isn't the best angle for those cabins, but there doesn't appear to be much between the box and the first tender. So this will have to do for now. :)

  11. Barb, Thanks so much for looking for me. I had considered changing and still might but the price was good, but if it is where the stairs are then I think I definitely wnat to change.

    Thanks again :)

I apologize for my earlier incorrect info. Don't know where my head or eyes were when I thought I was looking at E632. See my response to sunnyv, who caught the error, in the post above.

  12. E632 on the Crown is close to the far aft staircase on the interior of the ship. The stairs that follow the promenade walkway from deck 7 up to deck 8 are forward from cabins E204.

We are in E701 and E633 on our upcoming cruise on the Emerald (same layout as the Crown) and have read for obstructed view cabins, there really isn't much of an obstruction; but you may want to keep the curtains closed in port. The crew would be the only people in front of your window in E632, and that would while in port if they are working with the tenders.

BarbinMich: if you could confirm this when you get back, that would be great!

Gosh, what was I looking at?? Thanks so much for the huge correction in location! Plus I see they do show the promenade walkway up on forward Deck 8 (Emerald). I have friends in E-631 on the Crown cruise starting this Sat., so I should be able to at least look out their window and see what's outside that vicinity. I'll let you both know what's what with these Cat F cabins.

  13. We chose a category F that says it is an Obstructed view but I am not sure what would be obstructing it based on the deck plan. We will be on the Crown in E632. Any one have any idea why they call this obstructed.

Hi! We're were on the Crown last March and will be boarding her next Sat. for her transatlantic cruise. I'll try to remember to take a look at that cabin for you. I do know that the promenade walkway goes from Deck 7 to Deck 8 (Emerald) at about the point where your cabin is. This doesn't show on the deck plans. I remember that the area around the stairs between the two decks is kind of dark so something is obstructing it. I think you can count on Princess declaring a cabin view obstructed, when it really is obstructed by something. We've booked our first obst. view on the Grand in Jan. and it's a Cat. E--the highest cat. in the obstructed view group. But there is paraphernalia outside--walkways, canisters holding the inflatable life rafts, etc. So we may get a decent amount of light, but won't want to take a photo of anything onshore through all that stuff ;)

  14. The Sapphire and the Ruby are not the same deck plans.

The Ruby is the same as the Crown and Emerald. I have attached a photo of the area on the Crown where E408 and E410 are. . . BUT, by the cabin category of your cabins, and the fact that the cabins on either side of you are Cat EE (oceanview, with not obstructions) I am fairly certain your cabins will be right behind the Big White Box:confused:

Wow, yesterday I booked E410 on the Grand, which I assume has a similar white box outside. So I just changed to E404, just to be safe (I hope!). Thanks so very much!!
