  1. My daughter wears tight, but no laces Sketchers shoes. On Quantum they made her put on lace shoes and on Anthem they did not! It really depends on the person running your group and if you can show how tight the shoes are on your feet.

  2. We've found that in the specialty restaurants they'll give our daughter whatever she wants for the $10 price. App from the adult menu, random entree that she asks for, crazy too much dessert that the waiter insists on.

She's super picky and never had an issue.

I'm sure they would get her something from the MDR menu, but I wouldn't expect it to be free especially if you're asking them to go get it from a different kitchen.

  3. We've brought work with us whenever the teachers would give it ahead of time. Helps the kids stay with the class and less work for them when they get back. There's always some downtime and it's always better doing work on a cruise ship than in the classroom!

  4. Thanks to everyone in this thread! I didn't even realize these existed. Just booked for Thanksgiving on Harmony. We've done a Cabana once before but couldn't really justify that pricing again as we seem to wind up in Labadee at least once a year. Sharing one of these 'bungalows' with another family seems like a small up charge to guarantee some nice shade and comfortable seating.

  5. My daughter has been doing cruises since six months old and never had a problem until she turned seven years old. At that point she started getting nauseous in moderate seas. I also got nauseous as a child in cars/planes/boats so I was prepared with Children's Dramamine and that worked great for her.

  6. I think it depends on what you're into and what other ships you've done in the past. We love the big ships and the Radiance class. We did Vision a couple of years ago (it was also our first RCCL ship ever like 13 years ago!) and were bored the whole time and really didn't enjoy it much. On the other hand we really enjoyed our time on Monarch before she was retired, so I don't know if it was ship specific or what.

  7. Yeah, with only one bed down it's not terrible for the person on the other side. We were just in a cabin with our 9 year old who loved sleeping on the upper bunk, I was on the side of the bed below her and my husband on the other side. He would have no trouble coming to bed late, or getting up. I, on the other hand, had to do gymnastics to get in or out of the bed!

  8. We were on Jewel in the Med on July 3 and got the letter that children were NOT allowed in the Diamond Lounge during cocktail hours so as Diamond Plus we instead went to the Concierge Lounge which was allowed.

It was nice at least having an option as on the ships with only Suite and Diamond Lounges we can't use them anymore with our kid.

  9. There are two Freestyle Machines in Windjammer.

Plus - They kept them in very good working order and filled with all of the options.

Con - They were in Windjammer so you could only get drinks from them during opening hours.

Also, forgot to mention the 'Voom' Internet was certainly faster than the old service but nowhere near the levels of Oasis/Quantum Class ships.

The Tapas had Olives, Bruschetta, cheese, etc.

  10. Not trying to hijack the thread, just wanted to answer some questions based on our Jewel Cruise July 3 - 10...

    - As Diamond Plus members we were allowed to meet with the Concierge on the Santorini Day and get escorted down to the first tender. This was also the case for Pinnacle and Suite Guests. I assume this depends on how many Diamond Plus members are on the cruise. Our cruise seemed very light in higher level status cruisers. It was a VERY nice perk and made our day that much better. Tender Tickets were handed out at 9am for a 1pm arrival on our cruise.

    - We used our Diamond Plus discount to get buy one get one free at Chops the first night, then we bought the three restaurant package and ate at Giovanni's, Izumi, and Chops again. The other nights we ate at Windjammer or were full from ports. We did not do the main dining room as it was the same menus as always and we were not in the mood.

    - There was free Tapas at Vintages every night. Probably about six small dishes, mostly the same, each night.

    - Rome embarkation and debarkation was the easiest we have EVER had in our cruising history!!! Super easy, fast, convenient, crazy!

We loved the cruise and ship (our third time on Jewel).

  11. Wow, surprised to see so many people saying children and teens wouldn't enjoy this attraction.

We were one of the first to do it on Anthem and due to a booking mistake on their part they let my then eight year old participate. They warned that she may not enjoy it, but she's seen these 'rooms' advertised and loves puzzles so I knew she would.

There were five of us plus another family with teens and a few single women. We all had fun, worked together, and my eight year old even found some of the clues we needed and really enjoyed the room. We finished in about 40 minutes which they said was really great.

Really disappointed that they put such an arbitrary age limit of 14 on these rooms going forward.
