I would definitely avoid it if possible.  We definitely noticed more noise from connecting rooms than from non-connecting.

Completely agree with this.  We've had connecting rooms a few times with friends/family and once with a stranger.  I will always try to NOT book a connecting room unless it's someone we know.  It is a slight risk as there is less soundproofing if your neighbors are loud.

If it was a cabin I super wanted or the last cabin available, obviously I would still go for it as a 'connecting cabin' is still better than being at home! 😃

I’m taking notes and will try my best to gather and report back! I do not have kids and won’t be traveling with any so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to provide any info in kids activities. In addition, I am planning to visit every specialty restaurant and probably will not visit the MDR. So aside from the menus,  I won’t be able to provide much on that either. As far as the rest, I’m on it!

    Thanks!

  3. The info you've gotten is correct so far.  At the $10 price the kids are only entitled to the kids menu.  When our daughter was right on the border of kid/adult, some waiters would give us the option, or let her order off the adult menu but charge the kids price.  You didn't specify which ship and which restaurants as there will be changes with places like Izumi, Playmakers, Hibachi, etc.

  4. YES PLEASE!!!

We're right after you and have questions!

    - Can Unlimited Dining Package be used at the Pub?

    - Can Unlimited Dining Package be used at the Generic Johnny Rockets/former Fish n Chips/former Noodle Bar?

    - Timing for Trapeze Classes?

    - Are they running Northstar on the Glacier Cruising days/times?

    - Tween/Teen Club schedule?

We'd appreciate any info you can find out! Thanks!

  5. We've only had Pixels available to book for 'entertainment'.

Ripcord (iFly indoor skydiving) was available to book for a few hours and only a few of us managed to grab it.  Someone said Northstar was also briefly available but we never saw it and I was pretty good about checking every day.

Again, having been on this class of ship, I at least feel comfortable that we'll be able to get into those experiences once onboard.

We also have pre-purchased ultimate (now Unlimited) dining so will try to report back on how that's working as well.

  6. We're on one of the May Ovation Alaska cruises.  Obviously not a ton of info out there since this has not been done before, but I'm sure there will be some good TR's that will help you before you leave.  I'm a planner, so it bothers me a bit that we don't quite know how everything is going to work but I at least feel somewhat prepared having been on Quantum and Anthem and a previous Alaska cruise (Radiance).

I did a booking for Izumi just to see what the availability looks like (I’m around 90 days out). The only times available are 5:00, 5:15, 5:30, 9:00, 9:15, 9:30 every day. Do they keep some inventory back for people booking on board or have all the 6-9 times already been reserved for all days?

    The only times offered for hibachi are: 5:00, 5:15, 5:30, 7:00, 7:15, 7:30, 9:00, 9:15, 9:30.

There are three tables with three staggered seatings.

So they're holding back the three prime times for boarding/suites and in my experience they have always done this.  We've never had problems booking the 5:30 and then getting a late snack at windjammer if needed.

I would imagine a majority of people don't research things like that if a cruise is bookable then it should be available

That's terrible!!! If I'm going to spend thousands of dollars on ANYTHING, I do research! Same should be for any vacation.  I see tons of families complaining about spending money on a Disney Vacation of a Lifetime but they did no research and have no dining or ride reservations.  I'm sorry, but I can't feel overly bad in a situation like this where a small amount of research would have prepared travelers for this possibility.   It's no different than booking during hurricane season and then having your cruise cancelled, shortened, re-routed.

  9. My friends booked this cruise while we were on another cruise last year.  I told them about the dry dock and they were completely prepared for this.  My family almost booked this cruise knowing we wouldn't actually be able to make it and feeling pretty sure that something like this would happen!  Darn, we should have for a nice full refund and a 50% off certificate!

Sorry for any of you that are upset by this, but a small amount of research would have led you to the understanding of situations like this.

They say that you can control the speed, yourself?  It really doesn't go very fast, it looks like.

Basically depending on how you 'rev it up' on the first launch you can go a minimum or maximum speed. If you let go of the throttle completely it will still keep going, just at a slower pace
