  1. I agree with all dieselmama said. We, too, were able to get a portable oxygen concentrator (POC) for travel from the company that provided DH's oxygen at home, and we did have to arrange for it about a month ahead. And I would emphasize again, that having a room concentrator from Special Needs at Sea provides peace of mind.

We bring a power strip and the steward (or butler) has helped to set up the concentrator without a question or comment about having a power strip. They also have provided us with an extension cord when we didn't have one, but they won't guarantee that they will have one available, so we bring one with us now.

Thank you also for your response. Do I understand you correctly, that the special needs department can supply a concentrator for the room? I fortunately only need one for sleeping and this would help reduce luggage.

    Thanks again.

  2. I have just been put on oxygen at night only. Found this thread and wonder if anyone can help this complete novice with ways to deal with this issue. Are oxygen concentrators available for rent on ships or would it be better to purchase a smaller more portable device than the monster that sits in my bedroom. Also what about power source since in my experience there are very few outlets on the ships and they seem to frown on extension chords.

Don't want to give up cruising, so any advice/suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks

  3. Agreed about wearing bathing suits into the dining room. No reason to allow that.

Who are you to tell me or anyone else what they can and can't wear. You are such a hypocrite.

    Get over yourself.

  4. Actually with so many people not agreeing with you lately it just might be you who is missing the point.

Perhaps you need to back away from your keyboard for a bit ?

But this thread needs a person who is a self proclaimed expert on Maritime Law, Macro and Micro Economics and all matters Medical.

  5. I have had TSA agents go thru everyone of my many medications on a couple of occasions. I keep them in the original containers when traveling just to avoid any issues or delays. Not sure that TSA agents know what each pill is supposed to look like, but they have definitely eyeballed each bottles label and its content.

Also as was said before some over the counter meds are not allowed in some countries. Additionally, some prescription meds, mostly narcotics, are not allowed in some of these countries even if you have a prescription.

I recommend using the bottles, even tho not required, just to avoid issues/delays.

  6. You just had to quote that, after I put them on the ignore list. However, it is so off the wall, that I'm not even going to bother with it.

You are so right. It is not surprising that so many people here are not educated on most ship operations and engineering, after all it is not something most of us do for a living or were trained on. What is surprising are the people who, when given an opportunity to learn from experts, fail to take advantage of said opportunities.

Such people belong on ignore lists.

  7. That was sort of the plan originally...because Monday is a federal holiday we were going to stay in NYC until Monday the 15th after our cruise got in on the 13th. Now that everything has changed, we will save that bit for another time as we're both eager to get home.

Another change of events for us: we will be on Good Morning America tomorrow. We are eating at Chic now (original plans for The Grande changed once we realized we had to pack sooner than anticipated) and will be heading off the boat and taken to a hotel in Times Square that is close enough to the ABC studios for GMA.

Our decision to go on GMA is possibly a little bit based on the fact that they are providing transportation from the port to the hotel and studio to JFK for our flights tomorrow (which saves us a decent chunk of money). We also have purely positive things to say about how it was handled so maybe we can shine a light on RCI and how this situation played out.

Thanks for all your posts and good luck on GMA tomorrow.

  8. Go back and check the FACTS. storm was predicted 20 to 30 foot seas and 30 to 40 mph winds with gusts to 50 mph. Storm was not upgraded until 5:50pm on Sunday and Anthem was already in the storm which was THREE times worse than what was protected.

Facts? We don't need no stinking facts. They just ruin irrational opinions that are stated as though they are truths delivered from the mountain top.
